Posted on 06/06/2012 3:37:35 AM PDT by tobyhill
First lady Michelle Obama tells the Associated Press that she wouldn't want a federal ban on big sugary drink, but applauds Mayor Michael Bloomberg's effort to fight obesity:
Asked about Bloomberg's proposal during an interview with The Associated Press, Mrs. Obama said there's no "one-size-fits-all" solution for the country's health challenges. But she said, "We applaud anyone who's stepping up to think about what changes work in their communities. New York is one example."
And asked whether the nation's obesity epidemic warrants taking a more aggressive approach, such as Bloomberg's, she said: "There are people like Mayor Bloomberg who are, and that is perfectly fine."

Soft drink manufacturers...donate to conservative candidates (and Romney) accordingly.
Yesterday’s recall election should be viewed as the start of the return of common sense to the USA come November.
Who in hell is she to even be making that call? Mooch-elle. Hopefully soon to be sent back to oblivion.
Based on a large national study, body mass index (or BMI, an indicator of excess body fat) was higher every year between 1986 and 2002 among adults in the lowest income group and the lowest education group than among those in the highest income and education groups, respectively (Truong & Sturm, 2005).
Wages were inversely related to BMI and obesity in a nationally representative sample of more than 6,000 adults meaning, those with low wages had increased BMI as well as increased chance of being obese (Kim & Leigh, 2010). Source
And it's not because healty and nutritious food is exhorbinatly expensive.
In general, despite extensive government subsidies, hyperprocessed food remains more expensive than food cooked at home. You can serve a roasted chicken with vegetables along with a simple salad and milk for about $14, and feed four or even six people. If thats too much money, substitute a meal of rice and canned beans with bacon, green peppers and onions; its easily enough for four people and costs about $9.
The poor have time - they typically don't have jobs, live off Welfare, get free or steeply discounted food, housing, utilties, medical, dental and other care. They have more time than anyone else in our society. They are LAZY. If they are too lazy to fix their own meals, what makes a Libtard think that they aren't too lazy to get off the couch and go for a walk? If they can't take responsibiltity to monitor their own health, what makes a Libtard think that the Gov't can step in and take the responsibility that is inherently posessed by every sentient being on the planet?
Poor people have poor ways
It should... but it won’t. At least not in many areas of the country infested with brain-dead, entitlement-minded parasites like New York, California, etc.
But have you noticed that those areas are getting less and less?
I’m going to make it a point to go get a 44 ounce Big Gulp at Quik Trip. I’d love to spit it in the wookie’s face!
Just send the fatties to the “food deserts.”
The food deserts cause obesity?
Because the “poor” who given free government food cannot afford to buy “good” food?
(Which is it, wookie, obesity of lack of food?)
They are starting on the slippery slope slowly - this is just a ‘container size’ ban right now. They won’t ban soda outright but they will tax it, they NEED to tax it, smaller uniform containers helps streamline taxation and gives an air of “we are just trying to help you”.
Less people smoke - they need to generate income from somewhere - I’m surprised it has taken this long to corral the sheep....they are putting up the fences.
Hey, mooch-elle...how about banning all those large-portioned, deep-fried soul-food items? Let’s see how long the moocher and her entourage can go without fried chicken, for instance. Just sayin’.
40-ounce bottles of malt liquor will be exempted just as menthol flavored cigarettes were exempted from Obama’s ban on all flavored cigarettes.
The thug in chief’s people would revolt if he took those 2 things away.
Yep....LAST time they did. This time??? Maybe not!
which is why waivers for Obamacare primarily go to unions and those "connected". the rest of us get the one size turd sandwich.
