Rolling Stone Executive Editor Comes Out in Favor of Federal Version of Bloomberg’s Soda Ban

Remember when Rolling Stone was cool? Yeah, me neither. But it was once a center of rock ‘n roll rebellion and fighting the system. Now it’s a just another creature of the system. On MSNBC today, RS executive editor Eric Bates came out in favor of a federal ban on large soda sizes. Sounding like a leftist spin doctor, Bates characterized the ban as a “regulation on harmful substances that people take into their bodies, and which cost the government millions and millions of dollars a year in obesity and diabetes.” Others on the panel, which came at the end of Alex Wagner’s show, joined Bates’ logic and call for a federal version of NYC Mayor Bloomberg’s ban on large soda sizes. Only one panelist spoke out in favor of liberty and personal responsibility, and she was quickly ignored as another panelist shouted “It’s public health!”

From the magazine that claims it is cool to smoke dope and shoot yourself up with heroin to now sending the police after you if you dare drink a 32 oz slurpee.

He was probably interviewed between trip to the bathroom to powder his nose.

I’m certainly paying a lot of attention to what these brainiacs have to say about my diet——

Good lord!

I figured out what this is headed!

A $ettlement with "big sugar" like the one the nanny-staters extorted from "big tobacco."

Soon Meathead will show up to ca$h in.

Yes, it’s called PROHIBITION.

John Barleycorn must die.

Those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are condemned to repeat them.

“...and which cost the government millions and millions of dollars a year in obesity and diabetes...”

#####

Therin lies the gateway excuse for the nanny-state Communists, like the “cool-addicted” odiferous hippie poseurs at Rolling Marxism.

Make people fiscally responsible for their OWN health care choices, and this rationale utterly evaporates.

if you dare drink a 32 oz slurpee.

If I recall correctly, a 32 oz is just fine, but a 33 oz will cause obesity, diabetes, ballooning health care costs, increased federal deficits, global warming, and excess cat hair clinging to your pajamas.

Don’t forget to have your govt recommended 15 daily servings of bread.

Nothing better for maintaining your weight, except for pure sugar by IV drip.

"... Remember when Rolling Stone was cool? Yeah, me neither. But it was once a center of rock ‘n roll rebellion and fighting the system."

I don't remember that either.

Rolling Stone panned the first four Led Zeppelin albums which later all went platinum/double platinum while at the same time proclaiming every Elvis Costello album to be a landmark achievement in rock music, which they clearly weren't because nobody but Rolling Stone likes Elvis Costello's awful lousy shit.

Rock and roll rebellion? What?

And we’ll need a .10 national Bottle Bill to fund the bureaucracy. But DO NOT call it a Tax.

A friend of mine had a trial subscription to Rolling Stone, but when the trial period was over, she didn't renew. For four years RS pleaded with her to sign up. Every mailing would say, “this is your last chance...blah, blah, blah.” Eventually, the mailings became pathetic. The magazine was literally begging her to renew. Guess RS lost a lot of readers over the years because it became more about politics than music.

RS made its bones on being anti-big government, anti-establishment.

Now they have morhed into what they purport to oppose.

They have now become part of the problem
Just like almost every other liberal/leftist/democrat person or entity.

Elvis Costello did an excellent version of “Let’s Misbehave” in the Cole Porter movie, “DeLovely.”

I can already see all the skinny people walking around once the government outlaws Big Gulp size drinks. It won’t help the real big heavyweights I know who only drink diet soda or no soda at all. Big Nanny will have to outlaw fried food, cake, ice cream and large portions to help them. It’s for their own good after all. Why not force us to eat from a government approved menu? They only want to help us stay healthy.
