SAN FRANCISCO, June 6 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama said Democrats and Republicans used to think "about the good of the country and the future" but "that's changed on the other side."
Speaking Wednesday to an audience at a fundraiser in San Francisco, Obama said he and presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney offer voters "two fundamentally contrasting visions" for America -- and he said Romney and congressional Republicans represent a departure from the GOP of 2008, when he defeated Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in the general election.
"The character of the party and the Republicans in Congress had fundamentally shifted," he said.
"And I have to tell you that there was a time when there was a consensus between Democrats and Republicans," Obama told an audience at the Julia Morgan Ballroom. "Republicans might want slightly lower taxes and slightly less spending, Democrats might be more concerned about certain social investments, but there was a general consensus that all of us had to think not just about ourselves but about the good of the country and the future. And that's changed on the other side."

The architect of a dead economy is in no position to decide what his opposition does. This argument doesn’t work when Rome is burning behind him and he refuses to compromise even slightly.
The guy’s mental. Get the guys in White Coats with the strait jacket. Put him in a rubber room, and lock the door.
The far left says all kinds of crap, much of which they don't actually believe. They just want to plant stuff in people's minds for propaganda purposes.
Agreed but, King Putt, you are even worse.
Right from the alinsky playbook - accuse the other side of the evil you are doing.
Anyone remember the days when people like this were given toys to play with, supervision, 3 meals a day and encouraged to not drool in public?
Yes after twenty years in Rev Wright’s church, I can see where he gets his concern for the good of America.
Tell that to Wisconsin, butt-boy...
Yeah, I know. I really believe he was projecting on that one though.
The guy’s mental was my sense of humor getting the better of me again. Someday I’ll do as Rush used to say when I did listen to him years ago “to leave the humor to the professionals”.
I love the smell of desperation in the morning.
I’ll get a real laugh when this affirmative-action loser has a breakdown and is carried out of the white house in a straightjacket.
Go all out, Bammi! Go ahead scare the country with the big, bad Wepubwicans.
TEA Party folks want personal Liberty, not your Community Organizing, Socialist/Marxist/Fashist/Commie vision.
Truly. Just look at the Dems when they took over Congress in 2007. They went on a full court press to trash the economy to facilitate the election of a Democrat President. Pelosi nearly single handily caused a spike in the energy costs, and Schumer started a run on a couple financial institutions.
In the 1960s you could disagree with the Democrats and still understand that they loved their Country, but since they tasted the coup of removing Nixon from office, they love only power - the Nation be damned.
Get on with it, B0z0.
Your time is drawing short.
The GOP wants the country to be made up of Makers. Making things, making an ever-better living, making personal goals, making good lives for themselves. Either working for themselves or another company.
The DonkAss party wants the country to be made up of Takers. Taking money from people who actually earned it, and believing they are entitled to that money for doing absolutely nothing. They are for blatant socialism and an ever increasing entitlement state THEY control.
is it just me, or is that the most juvenile, shallow fundraising pitch ever? it’s like the guy is running for Junior High class president or something. People would have to be idiots to go for drivel like that.
