In a sharply-worded letter, the Scott administration all but dares the Justice Department to sue Florida for allegedly violating voting rights laws.

Gov. Rick Scotts elections chief on Wednesday defiantly refused a federal demand to stop purging non-citizens from Floridas voter rolls, intensifying an election-year confrontation with President Barack Obamas administration as each side accuses the other of breaking federal law.
In a sharply worded letter, Scotts administration claimed the Department of Justice doesnt understand two federal voting laws at the heart of the dispute and was protecting potentially illegal voters more than legal ones.
Florida also accused another federal agency, the Department of Homeland Security, of violating the law by denying Florida access to a federal citizenship database.
This hardly seems like an approach earnestly designed to protect the integrity of elections and to ensure that eligible voters have their votes counted, said the letter, written by Scotts hand-picked secretary of state, Ken Detzner, a fellow Republican.
Detzner also submitted a list of four questions that he wants the DOJ to answer.

vanity BUMP
Take it to Obama, hard and fast without mercy.
Bias much, Miami Herald?
Any bets the previous governor would have folded like a cheap suit?
The good news is that the feds can’t really do anything in the courts until after November, so it should full steam ahead for the states who are in the midst of purging their election lists.
I’d tell the DOJ to go pound sand as well.
Joe Arpaio showed leadership. Amazing what one man can accomplish by standing his ground. Not to take anything away from the Gov, as I salute his actions. I’m just saying that all it took was for one man to say FU to the admin. Others see him and find that it’s a good idea.
Go Scott Go. Florida Rules.
Hussein would be in there - eh?
Are you kidding me?
Charlie would't have even taken this up! ! ! !
We ARE a Banana Republic....WITHOUT the bananas!

If the effect of the NVRA (Motor Voter) is to force a state to allow never-eligible non-citizens the opportunity to vote, he wrote, then the statute might violate the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution, which guarantees that the right to vote cannot be denied by a dilution of the weight of a citizens vote.
As for the Voting Rights Act claim, Detzner wrote, Florida already received federal permission to remove noncitizens, which is clearly spelled out in Florida law.
Whats more, the Voting Rights Act applies to only five Florida counties Monroe, Hillsborough, Collier, Hardee and Hendry and not the other 62 in Florida, including Miami-Dade, where about 1,600 of the 2,700 potential noncitizens were initially identified by the state in a database created by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
About 500 people in Miami-Dade have been found to be lawful citizens and voters, and 13 noncitizens have been found. Two of them might have voted and could face prosecution. The county has been unable to verify the citizenship of more than 1,100 others.
Assuming the purge halts, those people could vote this year even if some are noncitizens.
"Not a single eligible voter as far, as I know, has been removed from the voter rolls," Scott said Wednesday on WNDB radio in Daytona Beach, according to a News Service of Florida transcript. "Not one. And were working to keep it that way."
"Their vote should not be diluted by people who dont have the right to vote," Scott said. "We need to be reviewing our voter rolls and making sure only those individuals who have the right to vote are voting."
This hardly seems like an approach earnestly designed to protect the integrity of elections and to ensure that eligible voters have their votes counted, said the letter, written by Scotts hand-picked secretary of state, Ken Detzner, a fellow Republican.
Detzner also submitted a list of four questions that he wants the DOJ to answer:
.
Scott Walker and Rick Scott, two Governors with the intestinal fortitude to do the right thing and withstand the pressure to do otherwise.
Are you watching, GOP-e??? Pay attention because THAT`S how it`s done!!!

The fact that DOJ has been stalling for almost a year on providing citizenship database access tells you all you need to know. They have been trying to intimidate efforts in every state to clean up voter rolls. The only possible reason for such tactics — as opposed to assisting to ensure it is done properly — is because liberals know there are illegal votes that favor the Dem candidates. If they thought all those non-citizens were voting GOP, they’d be pushing this cleanup.
You rang that bell!
Give the commie rag, AKA Miami Herald, credit for this article. It is accurate AND has a sidebar with links to the documents referred to in the article.
Had the herald written in this manner in the past, I would have continued to read it, something I have not bothered with for many years.
The article is a bit confusing on one point. It says the DOJ claims FL is violating the restrictions on purging voter rolls within 90 days of an election. But we are still 150 days out, so well outside any 90 days restriction. Of course, if they succeed in delaying the process they may hope to kill it by pushing it into the 90 day window.
Applying the 14th Amendment to voting rights is genius. If they can’t make someone worth 5/8ths of a vote, then they can’t make them worth 99,999/100,000ths either. Brilliant!
“Detzner also submitted a list of four questions that he wants the DOJ to answer.”
The important thing for Obama/Holder is to stop these purges ASAP, before they can impact the election.
Detzner is clever, stalling with “questions”. He knows November is the only motivation for Holder. He can stall this thing for months, if not years.
It's nice to see the tactics of the Left used against them.
Thanks for the headsup.
Huge kudos to the Republican leadership in FL on this.
BACKSTORY Florida discovered huge hordes of illegals on voters rolls when it called up names from the voter rolls for jury duty. Illegals said they could not serve on juries---b/c they were not citizens.
MULTIPLE IDENTITIES There's loads of parasitic ID brokers getting rich selling fake ID's to "impoverished" border violators for several thousand dollars each. Juan Madrigal--the Wash/state rapist--had some 30 identities. Another illegal used multiple identities to bilk UI of several million dollars. Two illegals---that equals some 40-50 votes (/snix)
=========================================================
REFERENCE The phony "just here for a better life" crowd who freely violate our borders and "do the jobs Americans won't do" have more criminal enterprises than you can shake a stick at.
<><>ICE's "documents and benefits fraud task force" found a common practice among "impoverished" illegals is to buy several faked identities for several thousand dollars each----the illegal then votes and rides the US gravy train under several names.
<><> Jose Madrigal---the Washington state rapist---had some 30 identities. And probably voted and collected US benefits under every single identity.
<><>June 26, 2010 An illegal using multiple identities was sentenced to prison and ordered to pay back $3 million in fraudulently obtained unemployment compensation. Manuel Mejia Ordonez, got eight years for conspiracy to commit mail fraud........and identity theft.
<><> Hilderberto Salinas sold state drivers' licenses issued out of the states Motor Vehicle Agency in NJ to illegals with multiple identities who did not have the necessary id's....among 40 people who participated in the widespread ring. "Impoverished" illegals paid $2,500 to $7,000 apiece for the licenses.
<><> July 21, 2006----NJ BERGEN RECORD---Pelcastre brothers, Angel and Jorge, Dallas, Texas, were a walking threat to US national security, expert document forgers who, for a few thousand dollars, could give anyone a new identity, NJ L/E authorities said. The Texas brothers were a "one-stop shop" for a myriad of fake US documents, including birth certificates, Social Security cards, driver's licenses----for any state in the US------ passports and resident alien cards, said state police.
The Texas brothers turned a NJ hotel room into a business office and were readying a massive cache of fake Social Security cards for delivery to a local NJ identity broker. Officers happened upon two cars bearing Texas plates in a NJ hotel parking lot. The Texas brothers were followed to a NJ office supply store nearby where they purchased computer supplies. Officers then followed the Texans to a NJ storage facility in Secaucus, NJ, where the Texans loaded several boxes into a car. One of them stood lookout.
After a search, police recovered laminating sheets with built-in security features, pages of blank documents waiting for fake names and information, finished documents, computers and software to create the fake IDs.
All told, the haul was worth about $500,000 on the street when sold to "impoverished illegals." Police also recovered $6,000 in cash, which was the first payment from a NJ fake document broker for a shipment of 500 phony Social Security cards. ####
<><> US Dept of the Treasury Says Illegal Aliens Collecting Billions in Tax Credits According to the US Dept of Treasurys Inspector General, more than $4.2 billion in additional child credits were paid out in 2010 to illegal immigrants. In 2005, the pay outs totaled $924 million. This program allows low income earners to claim a $1,000 per child credit. $20 billion EITC is estimated to have been paid out to these cunning "impoverished" illegals. Most of them are collecting over and over again-----using multiple identities-----falsifying official apps---claiming children they do not have and/or falsely stating kids are back in their homelands.
REFERENCE March 8, 2012 KENNER, La. -- Kenner police arrested illegal Marvin Baca who sold false W-2 forms to another illegal immigrant for $1,500. Baca sold fraudulent W-2 forms for $1,500 to other Hispanics here illegally.
Police said that on one of the forged W-2 forms had a SS no of a person living in Virginia. Police said illegal Hispanics purchase fictitious W-2 forms and file false tax returns with the government to receive EITC refunds. Baca was charged with one count of ID theft and two counts of forgery.

It is longer than 90 days to the general election, BUT it is within 90 days of Florida’s Primary to be held in August.
If you read the letter, you will find that Florida has a nasty knife up it’s sleeve -— if they can’t eliminate an illegal voter from the rolls, they will continue to identify illegal voters, identify if they actually vote, and then prosecute them for illegal voting.
I would assume that Florida will post a notice at the polling place that illegal voters will be prosecuted, and mention the penalties -— and the DOJ will go ballistic, accusing Florida of “voter suppression”.
Great Scott(R) !
I keep mixing them all up.
Rick Scott- Governor of FL
Scott Walker- Governor of WI
Scott Brown- Senator from MA
I think that’s it.
Florida already had their Presidential Primary back in January or Feb didn’t they ?
