Spending Gap? Media Ignores $21 Million Unions Spent in WI
Big Journalism ^ | 6/06/2012 | Ben Shapiro

The spin from the left on the morning after their disastrous Wisconsin recall election failure is that Governor Scott Walker (R-WI), who walked away with the election, did so because he spent oodles of money.

Politico’s takeaway: “Money shouts.” “Walker wins one for the plutocrats,” trumpeted Joan Walsh of Salon.com. “Outspent 7-1, Democrats couldn’t beat Scott Walker with a strong ground game.” Media Matters’ favorite Washington Post columnist, Greg Sargent, cited the Citizens United decision allowing corporate political spending no less than five times in his recap of the election – despite the fact that not one dollar spent in Wisconsin would have been illegal before Citizens United. The Post’s Chris Cillizza said, “Being outspent 10-1 (or worse) is never a recipe for success in a race. Democrats cried foul over Walker’s exploitation of a loophole that allowed him to collect unlimited contributions prior to the official announcement of the recall in late March.” Daily Kos said that with Walker’s spending edge, “It shouldn’t even be close.”

This is false...

On the surface, then, it appears that Walker had a tremendous cash advantage.

Not so fast. As it turns out, labor unions spent an additional $21 million on the recall election. When it came to state senate recall elections back in September 2011, Democrats outspent Republicans $23.4 million to $20.5 million...

In terms of strict numbers, Walker spent some $30 million; Barrett and the unions spent $25 million. That’s not a 7-to-1 differential. And when you add in unions’ inherent advantage in ground game, you’re talking about a better-than-even split for Barrett.

Scott Walker won last night because he is a good governor...

Adding in the union money doesn’t fit the Agenda, does it?

21 mil of union workers dues flused down the drain. Could have been applied to their benefits instead.

Even before reading this, I never for a nanosecond believed that Walker was outspending his opponent 7 to 1 or 5 to 1 or whatever.

The unions started this useless and illegitimate recall election, then whined that Walker was using all resources at his disposal to fight back. Cry me a freakin' river.

No, and other than the whiney, boo hoo effect, the commies are crying poormouth to try to affect their fundraising. If the “elites” think the dims are poor and that they would have won with more money, they are more likely to give them more $$$ next time around. If they know the truth and the cash didn;t really make a difference...they’ll be less likely to cough it up next time.

They charge that Walker received all that “out of state money”.

It’s true - I must confess that he received money from this grandmother and I am from “out of state” as far as Wisconsin is concerned.

And apparently it’s fine as long as Soros is the one buying elections and only an outrage if it’s the Koch Brothers.

Libcommies don’t want to admit the truth about the huge money Walker raised, largely from out of state. America is beginning to HATE the Dems and their union thug ways. Watching them take over and trash the capital. Seeing elected dem officials flee the state and hide out to attempt to cripple they’re own state gov. Listening to the Dem talking heads applaud all of that. Disgusting. Yes, I sent Walker money. Glad he used it to squash the lib bastards like the parasite cockroaches they are.

The left lies and has no shame nor bounds to their lies.

The GOP makes it much easier for the Left to get away with this by staying silent and letting the lies stand.

George Bush took this approach, and look what it got him. Pretty much no one cares - or even remembers - how "dignified" he was.

Well, of course. Ever meet a bully who liked his victims to fight back?

The Walker camp may have raised $30 million but did they spend that much? It’s likely they would have reserved some of this cash for possible legal challenges to the election and for Walker’s 2014 reelection.

So, Walker raised $30M from people who gave of their own violition, while Barret spent $25M, of which only $4M was freely given.

This is an outrage!!!

An outrage that money stolen from union members was mis-appropriated in this manner.

How about the time public employees (teachers, cops, firemen, public works, planners city and county employees ALL OVER WISCONSIN spending all their time on attacks on Walker, property destruction and mayhem. What is all that time on the taxpayer's dime add up to?

As a Wisconsinite let me personally say thanks for your financial contribution. The fact is Walker’s ads didn’t slam the Dems nearly as much as I would have liked, but they were effective in the end.
