Breaking: Romney/RNC outraises Obama/DNC by nearly $17 million in May
Hotair ^ | 06/07/2012 | Ed Morrissey

First, the good news for the Obama campaign ... they improved on a relatively poor showing in April's fundraising numbers. Earlier today, Team O and the DNC announced that they had jointly raised $60 million in May, up from the previous month's $43.6 million:

President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party have raised a combined $60 million in May for his re-election effort.

The totals helped the president exceed his fundraising haul in April, when his campaign and his party raised $43.6 million. That was slightly more than his presumed challenger in the November election, Mitt Romney, and the Republican Party, which raised about $40 million during the month.

So far, though, there isn't any indication of their cash on hand. Obama has gone on a fundraising tear, which racks up the costs and burns through the donations. The cost of raising all that cash, advertising, and organizing will be seen in the burn rate.

And now the bad news for Team O. According to a news release from the Mitt Romney campaign, the Romney/RNC partnership outraised Obama by nearly $17 million in its first full month of operation:

Today, Romney for President, Romney Victory, and the Republican National Committee announced fundraising totals of over $76.8 million in May. The campaign and RNC have $107 million cash on hand.

Announcing the numbers, Romney Victory National Finance Chairman Spencer Zwick said, “We are encouraged by the financial support from a broad range of voters. To them, whether they are Republican, Democrat, Independent, a first time political donor, or a former Obama donor, this is not just a campaign; it’s an opportunity for the country. It is clear that people aren’t willing to buy into ‘hope & change’ again. Voters are making an investment because they believe that it will benefit the country.”

“Our strong fundraising is a sign that Americans are tired of President Obama’s broken promises and want a change of direction in the White House,” said Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus. “We will continue the hard work of raising the resources to defeat President Obama so that we can elect Mitt Romney and Republicans up and down the ballot to get our country on the right track again.”

FAST FACTS About Romney For President, Romney Victory, and RNC Fundraising:

They already have $107 million cash on hand? That’s pretty impressive from a combined $116.8 million in fundraising since Romney shed his primary competition for good. That seems to indicate a very efficient fundraising operation, one that will present a big challenge to Team Obama. At the very least, it’s clear that Romney will compete directly with Obama on campaign funding, even apart from the super-PACs that will be engaging in this election.

Understanding that a portion of this money will likely go to downticket races, it’ll be interesting to see which races our GOP-E overlords consider ‘important’.

Boy the liberal Republicans are opening up their fat wallets ready to celebrate a liberal winning in November. I won’t give a penny to a liberal Republican EVER.

would fit with the whole post-Wisconsin narrative that “we’re not losing to Republicans, we’re losing to MONEY!”

Whatever happened to that much ballyhooed "billion dollars" that everybody said Obama had in the bank for this election?

I have no doubt that Obama will raise his share from all the homosexuals, socialists and union thugs out there who will blindly follow him no matter what. But it looks like the GOP is going to be able to match him dollar for dollar this time around - and then some.

They were feeling tingles up their legs when reporting the billion that Barry raised in 2008. These hypocrites have no shame at all anymore!

Funny, the news on the radio this morning only mentioned Obama’s raising of the $60mil.

the difference I guess is that this time we’re getting a RINO with skills instead of a RINO who was all over the place.

I must say I am impressed with the performance of the Romney campaign team thus far. They seem to be really on their toes.

Likewise, the RNC is resurgent under the leadership of Reince Priebus (spelling?). It makes me want to donate to the cause now, as I do not think it will be thrown away in a frivolous manner.

RE: New poll, posted in the Detroit Free Press, showing Romney leading Obama by 1. IN MICHIGAN!

Michigan is Romney’s second hometown (He grew up there). His father once governed the state.

If Obama loses Michigan, he loses the elections. It has 16 electoral college votes.

Does this piece of shit lying scum ever work?

Trust me, it's better he doesn't do any work, in the same way we'd be much better off if Congress took vacation eleven months out of the year.

The RNC is the org that funds the turnout operations. If it had been as well funded and organized in 2010 like it is apparently getting back to being now, we may have gotten that 100 seat gain some were optimistic for...thankfully our voters were more self motivated last time around as the RNC was in shambles.

Reince is probably running the cleanest, most efficient operation at the RNC in it’s entire history. He has a religiousness in his approach to making sure the money is used wisely and not used as a slushfund for good old boy vendors.

It makes me want to donate to the cause now...

Was just thinking the same. I question how much of these MSM articles are simply slants to mislead the DNC faithful into believing the sky is falling and to donate more $$$$$$.

Either or, it is time to put my personal opinions about the shortcomings of the RNC and Mitt aside and do what is best for America.

Nobody can seriously say that retaining the current administration is the best choice for this great republic.

Its time - I’m going to donate.
Thank you for your post.

Is there a thread here about Romney were you aren't one of the first screeds about how you hate Mitt? We get it already.
