Sebelius: ‘We’ll be ready’ if Supreme Court strikes healthcare law By Elise Viebeck - 06/07/12 11:53 AM ET

President Obama's top health official told an audience Thursday that the administration will be prepared to react if the Supreme Court strikes down its healthcare reform law.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said she is "confident and optimistic" that the high court will uphold the law, but added "we'll be ready for contingencies" if it does not.

The remark, at a White House town hall on women's health, comes as the president and Democrats brace themselves for the court's decision, which is expected by the end of the month.

A report last week said Obama has privately expressed concerns he could have to revisit healthcare issues in a second term — an attitude that contradicts the confidence he's expressed publicly that the court will rule in the law's favor.

"Frankly, we're just working as hard as we possibly can to get ready for 2014," when new portions of the law will be implemented, Sebelius told the friendly audience Thursday.

"It's best to anticipate that the law is fully constitutional. ... Some of the deadlines are pretty daunting," she said.

The ruling could come at 10 a.m. on any business day before the end of June, when the Supreme Court will finish its session.

Sebelius called healthcare reform "the most important women's health law in at least 50 years" — on par with Medicare.

"We've been talking to women throughout the country about the Affordable Care Act and about how this law is already impacting their lives," she said. "What the law meant for them is peace of mind.

"Whatever the circumstances … care will be there. Affordable prices will be there. Coverage will be there that you need."

There you are! She and Obama will IGNORE the SCOTUS ruling, and openly break the law! And the Republicans in D.C.(as they have done, over the past 3 1/2 years,) will do NOTHING to stop them!

Yea, the other faction of this corrupt "Two-Party Cartel" will perform its usual, predictable non action.

Well the healthcare law has certainly impacted this woman’s life. I now have $60 a mnth less to spend because that’s how much my premiums have gone up since it passed.

I don’t know how prepared they can be. There are a lot of “ancillary” things in that law that were predicated on financing 0bamacare. For example, the feds were going to finance a big chunk of the cost by nationalizing the college student loan industry, and the nationalization of that section of the economy was in the bill. A bunch of lenders like Sallie Mae lost a big chunk of business.

If 0bamacare is repealed, the Sallie Mae can return to status quo ante and start lending again. And the feds are out. Which would be great because I can give you horror stories about trying to deal with the feds on student loans. The goverment run program doesn’t work well? What a shock.

Ready to do what? Have CDC invent a bunch of horrible outbreaks and mandatory vaccines? There’s no telling what HHS Maven has in mind.

According to the Supreme Court website, the last day of this session is June 25. By the time the court adjourns the session (by tradition) they will have either issued their opinion OR rolled it over to be argued again next session.

But having a lifetime appointment means never having to say you're sorry ... they can do what they want.

Hillarious that “independent feminists” NEED the government to take the place of a man and perform the same role as a man - protect and provide.

I expect 6-3 or 7-2 to take down “O’Care.”

When they are reduced to peddling ObamaKKKare as "women's health care" they've lost it.

Nothing in there about the elderly, the sick, the poor, the injured, and certainly not the chillun'

Sibelius might as well start checking into the nuthouse.

You forget about the STATES?

States aren’t going to do diddly if this law is struck down.

The formula is, Obama ignores the SCOTUS, the STATES ignore Obama.

I think Late June is when they will rule/release ruling

And no one knows ahead of time what the ruling is? Yeah, right. This is a signal to the donors to keep the money rolling in when parts of it get struck down.

If it’s like most Supreme Court decisions, we’ll get a “heads up” a day or two before the release. Then the big day will be a huge Media Extravaganza.

Not a chance.

It all comes down to Kennedy, as usual. Ginsburg, Kagan, Breyer and CINO Sotomayor are a lost cause. Kennedy is the swing vote.

So, if that's the case, why is OBAMACARE necessary?

And we'll be ready for contingencies too, if it does uphold the law, Madame Morticia. Open defiance, civil disobedience and if necessary, prison.

Viva Cristo Rey!!

the most important women's health law in at least 50 years

Is there ever anything that is good for straight, white, employed, males? Everyone else is of a protected class with special accommodations

The statement “”the most important women’s health law in at least 50 years” is BLATANTLY DISCRIMINATORY AGAINST MEN. Secondly, “We’ll be ready” is a misnomer.. Our health care is a matter completely independent of government purview and she has no right to act as though it is. That is what the 0bamacare decision is all about; Getting Sista Sebelius’ sexist, grubby fingers OUT of our underwear!
