Out of the 57, I think Kenya may be the only blue state this time.

“I’m old enough to remember when many Conservatives said that Reagan was “Too Libera;” to make a good Prez.”

Maybe by the reactionaries to the right of Conservatives, but not by big C Conservatives. Reagans speach at the 1976 Convention cemented his Conservative credentials and scared the bejesus out of the party elite. Reagan had a long track record in speaches and writtings as a Conservative, unlike liberal lite Romney. The BS is yours.

Yes, the Primaries are over. Unfortunately we are stuck with Romney, who 65%+ of the Republican base does not want. For me, the 2012 elections are all about electing a Conservative Congress in order to keep Romney in line and hold his feet steadily to the fire. Romney a conservative????? I say “No confidence.” None whatsoever.

Thank you for this wonderful post.
I am hopeful but not complacent at all!
I cannot imagine why Obama has the support he does have..
He is a failed President ..and I pray we can turn the great ship of our nation in time to save it.

I have doubts about Romney. I have no doubts about Obama. I think Romney will listen to a GOP House and hopefully a GOP Senate. I know Obama does not give a damn about congress. I know what Obama will appoint to SCOTUS. I know Romney would not select anyone remotely close to the radicals Zero did.

I know our nation is going bankrupt under Obama. I know Obama has no clue about the economy or capitalism. I think Romney will make efforts to rein in government spending because he wants a second term and is a good businessman.

I think Obama does not like America. I think Romney likes America. Obama does not care about future generations. Romney seems to genuinely understand how immoral it is to saddle our children and grandchildren with crushing debt.

Everyone can decide for themselves. Despite all the angst here on FR, this is not a difficult decision for me at all. Romney was not my first choice, but I hope he destroys Obama and surprises us all. We can’t afford 4 more years and 1-3 more Obama Justices on SCOTUS.

ABO!

” - - - who do you imagine - - - “

You have succinctly illustrated the most difficult hurdle in politics today: the separation of an idea from a person.

When people on FR reject the” WHAT” of an idea, they commonly focus on the “WHO?”

As a consequence, there is NO dialogue between the WHAT and the WHO people.

Pull up any thread on FR and pick out the WHAT and WHO people, and you will commonly find two monologues, but only very rarely a dialogue.

Do we have a dialogue now, or are we still in the two monologue stage?

"That does it. I’m sending Mitt a donation."

Why? He doesn't need a "donation". He's buying this on his own. He might just get our 'against obama' votes......but nothing from me (and others that I know) are handing romney a dime.

If Romney was DUMPED in an OPEN Convention in Tampa, and a Dark Horse Conservative was Nominated - - - - -

A) How are delegates committed to Romney not going to nominate him in the first round?

B) What Dark Horse do you think could get a majority of delegates votes?

“Astonishing” has been the word that has continually come to my mind ever since the beginning of this whole “Obama” thing.

I know that’s a picture of Michigan, but it looks like the shredding that’s happened to our flag and our country in the last 25 years.

True.

Grand Rapids is a fairly large city and is “red”. Probably (with Indianapolis) one of the larger red cities in the USA. The entire west side of Michigan is anti-union and pro-family. Hardworking people who see what Dems and the Unions have done to Detroit, and thus, our state.

Unfortunately, there are still a lot of urban and union folk on the east side who drink the kool-aid.

I think the last major Republican city is San Diego and it's been eroding quickly in recent years.

The city council may have shifted back to the right with Tuesday's primary but the congressional delegation for the area might shift Dem by one thanks to redistricting that targeted Brian Bilbray.

Mayor's election this year is between a good fiscal conservative, city councilman Carl DeMaio (37), and a registeredSocialist, retiring Congressman Bob Filner (70).

If Romney somehow wins Michigan, you can be damn sure he'll have a convincing electoral win nationally.

That said, I expect it's wishful thinking that Michigan may not be in the Obama column despite Romney's ties to the state. Mitt won't win MA either.

And by October 1st let the race riots begin. Mayhem will ensue in the inner cities and O will claim he is the only one to save the union.

I really don't think so. It's not as if Obama has done anything good for anybody these past 3 1/2 years. It's all been about him and his scowling, unappreciative globe-trotting wife.

Don't get me wrong, they will still come out and vote for him in droves. But the magic is gone. A lot of his people will stay home this time and while they aren't going to be happy about Romney winning, I don't think they are going to tip over cars and burn down buildings either. Obama is just not worth the effort.

Regarding your "opportunity to dump Romney" at this summer's convention, I admit to having wet dreams about some hero conservative (i.e. Sarah Palin) strolling onto the convention floor like some Wild West gunslinger and wrestling the nomination away from Mitt Romney.

But like all good wet dreams, I end up having to take a shower and come back to reality.

As much as many of us would love to see it happen, there is no plausible scenario in which Romney is denied the nomination this summer. He's got the necessary delegates (fair and square), he's got the GOP machine behind him and most importantly, he's raising money for the GOP like no tomorrow. He's even out-raising Obama.

Time to face up to facts. We lost this battle. Romney is going to be the guy. Even in Utah, the most conservative state in the union, Romney blew away his opponents in their state caucus (Gingrich and Santorum were still in the race at the time).

Maybe we get a real conservative nominated next time around. I know it sucks but it's the hand we've been dealt. So unless we can organize quickly enough to put together a credible third party alternative, it will do us no good to play Linus in the pumpkin patch. The Great Pumpkin ain't coming this year.
