Wildlife groups sue US over lead bullets
AFP - ^ | 08 June 2012

Seven US conservation groups on Thursday filed a lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency, accusing the government of failing to regulate the use of toxic lead bullets in hunting.

Lead bullets have been shown to fragment upon impact, leaving bits behind in carcasses that other animals scavenge. The practice can cause lead poisoning in species such as the endangered California condor, eagles, swans and more.

A petition by 100 environmental groups to the EPA in March, asking for the agency to regulate the components of ammunition used in hunting under the Toxic Substances Control Act, was refused amid strong opposition by gun rights groups.

...

More than a dozen countries in Europe have banned lead ammunition for hunting waterfowl, while Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden are among a handful of countries that have totally banned lead bullets.

Germany, Japan and Belgium have passed limited restrictions on their use.

conservation groups

Conservation groups? What happened to the words "environmental" and "environmentalist"?

Gee, did they find out that such words mean "nut jobs"?

Normally, hunters are required to take their quarry back with them. Only in the case that something got away could this be a problem. And I would not trust a committee of nobody but greenies to quantify how bad the problem is.

Interesting. The wind industry just got permission to off Eagles at will but lead ammunition is dangerous to them. I guess you just need to belong to a protected class of industry.

Yes, whine, cry and complain and sue. Meanwhile real conservationist groups like Ducks Unlimited (and hunters and fishermen, who actually pay for conservation) did something about it.

This is but the first salvo in Obama's plan to regulate public gun use by assaulting our right to relativel;y inexpensive ammo. In the same meeting where Barrio Bummer, Moochelle, Valkyrie Jarhead and Lanny Breuer cooked up the "Fast and Furious" and "Project Gunwalker" to start turning Americans against the concept of readily available arms, they also mapped out a second-tier strategy to outlaw "poisonous lead" ammo, and legislate prohibitively expensine (and government regulated!) ammo.

This intel comes straight from the unnamed source deep in the O'Bunghole WHite House, who is as yet still perceived as an ally, but who has been feeding tidbits and memos/documents to several authors and Darryl Issa for months now.

Many of the GOP questions for Eric "Dick" Holder today were carefully crafted from such documents, giving him plenty of rope with which to tie his own executioner's noose. He fell into the traps face-first and without hesitating.

More on this as it develops...

By suing the gov’t

Ingenious way to transfer wealth via the tax payer to special interest.

I though the government couldn't be sued?

EPA’s Lisa Jackson is Obama’s “B”. She will do what ever her “pimp” wants.

It is the Chicago way.

its big business. Most of your “environmental centers” are funded this way. Then they inflate thier costs and the gov’t gleefully pays it.

Yes, and the Left is sooooo predictable, as always. Mix the word "conservation" in with "environmental", now that they're realizing that the public is becoming sick of their expensive, oppressive nuttery.

Blur the lines. Oppostion to illegal immigration is "anti-immigrant". Opposition to gay scoutmasters is "homophobia". Blah, blah, blah.

They bore me.

Ah, planet Earth to all you “conservationists” and environmental loonies — LEAD (or Plumbum [Latin], periodic symbol Pb) — is a naturally occurring element! Deal with it.

I have read that the number of fishing and hunting licenses in nearly every state is declining ever year.
This is a bad omen...

"I thought the government couldn't be sued?"

They can, if they agree to be sued, and they usually do in these type cases.

And the government pays all legal fees, so you never really lose.

Thats what I was thinking, who leaves the carcus behind? State laws require the meat of game animals to be utilized. A gut pile maybe but not the carcus.
