Australian Olympic swimmers in hot water after gun photo
CNN ^ | 6/8/12 | Molly Gray

(CNN) -- Two Australian Olympic swimmers who posted pictures on Facebook of themselves brandishing weapons have been ordered to take them down by the country's swimming authorities.

The image, taken in a gun shop in Santa Clara, California, showed Nick D'Arcy with two pistols standing next to Kenrick Monk who is holding two shotguns across his chest, according to a Friday report in Australia's Herald Sun. The swimmers were training in the U.S. ahead of the Olympic Games in London later this year.

Swimming Australia said in a statement that it does not condone "the posting of inappropriate content on Facebook, Twitter or any social media platform."

There’s a multitude of things the PC western world needs to fear more than guns in the hands of peaceful law-abiding citizens. The collective lack of a spine for one.

Of course they wouldn’t bat an eye if the photos were graphic homosexual poses.

Gun Control Australia spokesman John Crook said it was a new low for the pair.

What a puss. They should go back home, kick his ass, then come back here and ask for asylum. Most Americans appreciate the boys who can bring home the gold and wouldn't go all gay over a couple of guys posing with guns.

Holding two shotguns. What a disgusting picture. He should be ashamed. I would be embarrassed if that was my photo.

They should have been AR15s. With drum mags! And bandoliers of 5.56mm rounds. Or at least a pair of Uzis. For heavens sake man, have some respect with a decent photo of 2 assault weapons.

While these guys are a pair of tools and arguably shouldn’t be representing Australia (for other reasons), this is as weak as piss by the Australia Olympic Committee. Posing with legally available weapons!! ZOMG!!111eleventy!!

What will the Committee do if members of the Australian Olympic Shooting team post photos of themselves next to a swimming pool?

Unfortunately you are spot on.In fact anyone who says a thing against homosexuality will be in for the same treatment as these two in the gun photo.

It makes me cringe for our country in all honesty. This story is all over the airwaves here.Wall to wall outrage.

Posing with legally available weapons!!

Well, ah, that's the thing. You see, in Australia...

What will the Committee do if members of the Australian Olympic Shooting team post photos of themselves next to a swimming pool?

Need more information. Is there a standards-compliant fence around the pool? Was the proper permit obtained for filling the pool? The correct taxes paid for development approval to build the thing in the first place? Wouldn't want to encourage law-breaking behavior (think of the impoverished drowning children!).

Of course if they posted a photo of themselves fornicating with each other I'll wager that Swimming Australia would be proclaiming the beauty of diversity and tolerance.

Even with the USA having a more reasonable view on individual gun ownership...there would have been the same outcry from the gun control groups in this country if two of our prominent Olympians were posing with weapons.

There are a lot of gun hysterics in the USA, too, unfortunately. However, there are quite many reasonable people, like here on FreeRepublic

You are correct, of course. This is part of the ongoing attempt to delegitimize the concept of armed citizens.

The people who push this are statists, who believe that only the state should be able to use force. They like the idea of the state as an all powerful entity without limit.

The State is their god.

There’s a multitude of things the PC western world needs to fear more than guns in the hands of peaceful law-abiding citizens.

The thing is Nick D'Arcy is not a peaceful law-abiding citizen. He's a violent thug with a criminal conviction for assault occasional grievous bodily harm - in US terms, a felony. He was lucky to escape with a suspended prison term.

His crimes - committed against a fellow athlete - lead to him being dropped from Australia's Olympic team prior to Athens, and from being allowed to participate in the World Championship. He has been very lucky to be allowed a second chance and for this reason, he is expected to be exceptionally careful with the way he behaves. There probably would have been some backlash anyway over these photos whoever was in them, but the fact that it is him makes it far more controversial.

With sponsors like these for the U.S. Olympic Shooting team, how can we even be invited to compete in the games??

We are just f-ing barbarians, I guess.

I call that a “good start”. Lol. But yes, you are on the right track.

I sooooooo could not live in Australia, or Canada, or Great Britain. Canada has moved in the right direction though, having dropped the gun registry.

I am exceedingly grateful to have been born into the ONLY NATION IN THE WORLD with a guaranteed constitutional right to keep and bear arms. I know of no other nation in the world where it is the God given right has been codified into the law. Certainly not France. Certainly not Germany or even Switzerland.
