WASHINGTON After weeks of talks, drug industry lobbyists were growing nervous. To cut a deal with the White House on overhauling health care, they needed to be sure that President Obama would stop a proposal intended to bring down medicine prices.
On June 3, 2009, one of the lobbyists e-mailed Nancy-Ann DeParle, the presidents health care adviser. Ms. DeParle reassured the lobbyist. Although Mr. Obama was overseas, she wrote, she and other top officials had made decision, based on how constructive you guys have been, to oppose importation on a different proposal.
Just like that, Mr. Obamas staff signaled a willingness to put aside support for the reimportation of prescription medicines at lower prices and by doing so solidified a compact with an industry the president had vilified on the campaign trail. Central to Mr. Obamas drive to remake the nations health care system was an unlikely collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry that forced unappealing trade-offs.

Is there any honor left anywhere? I run into situations quite often in my lowly position as a department head in a small city government where people put their own interests above the public’s that pays our salaries.
Obama wasn’t “pushed”. He freely did this deal to get their support. Obama is thug, an opportunist and now we know with certainty a socialist.
The one stakeholder Obama never brought to the table was the patient. (Except as the main course of the meal.)
Even many of the libs are melting down over this.
I knew there was no way his Big Brother healthcare plan moved forward unless Big Pharma was guaranteed to get theirs as well.
Rats and a few of their friends win with anything Barry does and most of us lose. Thanks a bunch Zero.
The utter cluelessness and naivete of this NYT writer is breathtaking.
Only a fool or an NYT writer (but I repeat myself) would take a known fabulist such as Obama at his word.
Obama was conducting a classic shakedown, not the other way around (as the article excerpt and title seemingly imply).
This is an old, well covered story.
Plus, it fell right into his game plan to make all thing more expensive and to continue the subjugation of the People to the Feds.
Correct, however from the story-—
The e-mail exchange three years ago was among a cache of messages obtained from the industry and released in recent weeks by House Republicans including a new batch put out Friday detailing the industrys advertising campaign supporting Mr. Obamas health care overhaul.
The broad contours of his dealings with the industry were known in 2009, but the newly public e-mails open a window into the compromises underlying a health care law now awaiting the judgment of the Supreme Court.
After all, this is his field of expertize...
I would say 90% of what we take is garbage. Like loans in the financial market, big Pharma gets us addicted to drugs by making crap up and buying off doctors to tell us what we have.
A.D.D - cure? Take the crap off the walls in classrooms so kids can focus on work and not the distractions on the walls. Like everything, A.D.D becomes a habit and rather then fix the habit, we give kids drugs to cope. Multi billion dollar a year industry.
Many other ailments are cured by eating right and in moderation.
Granted, some things we cannot help and in that sense big Pharma is good.
No one is forced to take pharmaceuticals. Of course, no one is forced to learn anything either...

1) Before the crucial Iowa caucuses, Obama frequently vowed that "they (lobbyists) won't work in my White House."
2) Shorly after that, "They are not going to run my White House. And they won't drown out the voices of the American people."
3) Then they started issuing "waivers"(NOTE:very usefuk word for Obama) in 2009. "Why would we exclude them? But I think we have shown you can govern without lobbyists."
4) New York Times reports (linked article to this thread): On June 3, 2009, one of the lobbyists e-mailed Nancy-Ann DeParle, the presidents health care adviser. Ms. DeParle reassured the lobbyist. Although Mr. Obama was overseas, she wrote, she and other top officials had made decision, based on how constructive you guys have been, to oppose importation on a different proposal. But, hey, the ends justify the means, right?
Libs complain about corporation, but they’re party loves them.
I have noticed that the most evil and putrid corporations are headed by bigtime progressive dims... the guilty on wallstreet are mostly rat bastard dims... they are a cancer on the republic... not just the CEO’s but all dims... to be a dim is to support evil... including communism. They never admit it but Stalin’s vision is what they want... even those that would be put against the wall and executed before any conservatives would be.
