Walker Victory: This Is What the Tea Party Is About
Patriot Post ^ | June 8, 2012 | Mona Charen

Though it hasn't been celebrated as such, Scott Walker's victory in Wisconsin represents the full flowering of the tea party movement. It is also a sign -- among others -- that the Republican Party has recaptured its ideological core.

The tea partyers are often mischaracterized as extreme right-wingers. Thus, proponents of same-sex marriage or unrestricted abortion will invoke "tea party" elements as those most opposed to their efforts. That's off target. Though many in the movement may have conservative social views, those weren't the issues that spurred them to organize, demonstrate and vote.

My, my Mona. I do declare, have you forgotten how you thought the Tea Party was kind of ... icky? I mean, back in 2009. Not your Mahjong-playing sort.

I also kind of...sneer...when I hear Charles Krauthammer saying kind words about the Tea Party three years after the first April 15 gatherings in 2009 when he thought we were kind of icky, too.

These Partisan Review snobs. Well, I haven't forgotten.

I dont care if people change their minds, as long as its to our side. I’d rather be wrong in the past, than in the present and future.

Scroll down to see photos of the Tea Party at Obama’s San Francisco fundraiser. This was less than 24 hours after Walker’s recall victory, but the Tea Party was ready with great signs.

too many RINO establishment types still in office to make that claim

Um, no it isn't and no the Republican Party hasn't. It's a sign the Republican Party will be brought kicking and screaming all the way to its (presumed) ideological core. If they ever had a core, which is to presume a lot.

“that the Republican Party has recaptured its ideological core” I disagree. The TEA PARTY has its’ ideological core. The REPUBLICAN PARTY has lost its’ soul.

It isn't the Republican party that has 'recaptured it's ideological core' it's the concerned citizens that comprise the TEA party that have steered the Republican party back toward it's ideological core - but it isn't there yet. Not with RINO First Class Mitt Romney as the 2012 GOP presidential nominee. Something that needs to be changed at the August convention in Tampa Bay.

Yesterday Rick Santorum announced he is starting a grass roots organization to recapture the Republican base.

Sounds like Mona is trying to place the Republicans at the Head of the Tea Party Parade by the force of her pen (keyboard).

Nice try Mona (apparently Mona now "likes" the Tea Party Scum after all!), but more of your DC pals are still marked for future dismissal at the voting booth.

Get used to it Mona, RINO hunting season is now all year long, every year!

Yup! Mona’s cup of sneer runneth over at the mere mention of Sarah Palin’s name. Thank God, freepers have very long memories!

Yes, I sure remember. I used to devotedly follow Charen for years, but when she came out so snidely and condescendingly towards Palin, and then the Tea Party, I dropped her columns like a rock. Even on television, in the past three years, each time I’ve caught her, it seems as though her ‘conservatism’ has been limited to blowing kisses at Bush/Rove and the Washington GOP establishment.

One of many voices over the past three years I’ve come to lose faith in, if not downright distrust. Real rich to now see her supposedly speak well of the Tea Party (albeit obviously in order to co-opt its efforts in the Wisconsin victory).

I have no use for Mona Charen anymore. I used to like her but her disdain for the Tea Party (the great unwashed) has left me cold.

Does Mona mention that she’s had a change of heart or mind, or does this read like she was on our side all along? (Rhetorical question) Thing is, that means there’s precious little loyalty to count on.

Yesterday Rick Santorum announced he is starting a grass roots organization to recapture the Republican base.

That is his freakin' problem, we are not to be captured like a wild animal for display, we are free men and women tha will run with the RNC when they agree with us, and when not we will pull them towards us in small local units called Tea Parties..

I don't need Rick to speak for me with some "me too" organization, if anyone can speak for me it's Sarah and her Mama Grizzlies...

What else do you need as evidence Rick is not ready for prime-time
