BEVERLY HILLS (CBS) — Actress Amanda Bynes is asking for a little legal help from the Commander-in-Chief.
The 26-year-old actress pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs stemming from an April 6 collision in which her BMW allegedly struck a sheriff’s patrol car in West Hollywood.
Bynes’ attorney entered the plea on her behalf because she was not required to appear in Beverly Hills Superior Court, and a July 18 pretrial hearing was set.
But Bynes did ask President Barack Obama on Tuesday to intervene on her behalf on Twitter.
“Hey @BarackObama, I don’t drink”, said Bynes in a Tweet to the Obama campaign. “Please fire the cop who arrested me. I also don’t hit and run. The end.”
The DUI charge includes the allegation that Bynes refused a peace officer’s request to submit to a chemical test.
Bynes was taken into custody about 3 a.m. April 6 after the black BMW she was driving struck a sheriff’s patrol car at the intersection of Robertson and Santa Monica boulevards, sheriff’s Lt. William Nash said.
The patrol car was stopped while northbound on Robertson Boulevard, preparing to turn right onto Santa Monica Boulevard, when Bynes allegedly attempted to pass to the right, according to Nash.
She was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, the lieutenant said, and released later that morning.

Obama didn’t have the authority to fire the president of General Motors, but he did so.
I have contended for some time that if the president of GM had held a press conference and said, “Mr. President, you do not have the authority to fire me, only the stockholders can do that. So you can KMA!”, the whole Obama presidency would have been changed.

If he interferes, like he did in that other “stupid police” (his words) case, it would be a PR disaster. He won’t.
