Naomie Breton begged a judge two weeks ago to forbid her violent ex-boyfriend from coming near her but was immediately turned down.
On Monday, her ex-boyfriend allegedly doused the 34-year-old single mother of three with gasoline and set her ablaze, a gruesome event captured by a surveillance camera. Although burned on her face and body, doctors at Delray Medical Center say she should recover.
Breton in March moved out of the home she shared with Roosevelt Mondesir, the father of her 4-year-old son. She told police the two were meeting about 3 a.m. outside the 7-Eleven at 7044 Lawrence Road in Boynton Beach to exchange custody of the boy.
Breton, a limo service dispatcher, was pumping gas into her silver Mercedes when Mondesir's white Jaguar pulled up. But her son was not with him. Instead Mondesir rushed at her with the gas can and what appeared to be a machete, police said. Mondesir poured gas on Breton and set her on fire.
"Get away from me!" Breton yells as she tries to lock her attacker outside the store. Moments later, he drags her outside. She reappears on camera engulfed in flames, shrieking hysterically as she tears off her shirt. A frantic store clerk calls 911 and the attacker ran off, police said.
Police dogs and helicopters found him two hours later, crouched behind bushes near the 7-Eleven. The incident ended with Breton at the hospital and Mondesir, 52, behind bars on a charge of attempted murder.

I hope the “judge” who denied the (admittedly useless) restraining order has a conscience. Unlikely though given the facts.
But whether he believes it or not, he has a soul. While I am tempted not to, I pray for that soul...
Poor woman.
Sadly, a restraining order would not have stopped his criminal intentions.
A firearm and the will to use it, on the other hand, would have made him rethink attempting to murder her.
Those who sell the notion that one needs a restraining order to be protected from an abuser help the abuser, not the abused.

And she would have been able to have a pistol within that timeframe too. Although I imagine she would not have her concealed carry permit in that time. But, if I was that fearful of a known threat - some slip of paper wouldn’t have stopped me.
Glad to hear she will survive - although lots of pain. I suppose it may ease her pain as she’ll be able to be full-time with her son now.
Yeah - I was wondering about that too.
And if it were ME, I would’ve made the exchange at 3 P.M. in the lobby of the local police station.
You know, I see these a lot in court. The order doesn’t protect them. It’s just a paper. If her petition didn’t form a legal basis for the order, and I have no idea if it did or not, the judge can’t issue the order. People get hurt despite the orders. It likely would have made no difference except there would be an additional charge.

Exactly what I was going to say. Restraining orders are nothing more but one more attempt in a long line of attempts by liberals to infringe upon our 2nd amendment constitutional right which explicitly states SHALL NOT be infringed.
What is it about the word NOT that liberals do NOT understand? In their Clintonian thinking, they always shuffle around the meaning of words to further their agenda “not means yes!” and like I stated many many times, 2nd Amendment infringement does not save lives but does the exact opposite: It gets people killed and here is another example. She could have had 1000 restraining orders and she still would have been killed as compared to one gun which would have saved her life.
This kind of stuff happens all all the time and I’m sick of hearing about it. Woman is abused, get’s restraining order, woman is killed. And if that ain’t bad enough, if the woman does get a gun and kills the maggot, they end up prosecuting her because liberals don’t like it when they see the constitution works.
That was the first thing that came to my mind as well.
Restraining order totally useless. Will a criminal honor a piece of paper? Hell No.
Will a criminal honor a 357 (or glock or even better a 12GA)? probably not. That is why we have boot hill. Those to young to remember gunsmoke, boot hill is where scum was buried that didn't have any family to claim the body. . . .

My first thought as well.
I've been saying that for years if not decades. The people who are most anti-gun, women, are the people who need guns the most. Tougher restraining laws won't stop crazy people. Women need to be armed. Especially women who have put a restraining order on an ex-husband, spouse, or boyfriend.
Government and media think restraining orders work kind of like gun control. Ie they think it works, but it only affects the law abiding.

I like your response piytar— it reflects my own thoughts on this personal interest story. DHS here locally has filed
restraining orders against me. Unnecessary — and useless because they were unnecessary.Unlike the animal in this story
and countless others like it I have absolutely zero intent to ever attempt contact — no interest whatever in the address of
the individuals supposedly protected from me. But IMO Courts
issue these admittedly worthless pieces of paper knowing they are just worthless paper—it’s a cyoa response of people who do not wish to be bothered by people they are entrusted with passing judgment upon.
