Obama releases early radio ad pandering to black voters

President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign will release its first radio ad targeted specifically at the African-American community on Tuesday in an unusually aggressive, early effort to rally blacks behind the president.

The ad, titled “We’ve got your back,” begins with a male narrator declaring, “Four years ago, we made history. … We have to show the president we have his back.”

The ad continues with several quotes from the president’s speeches: “We can’t afford to spend the next four years going backwards. … I refuse to pay for another millionaire’s tax cut by kicking children off of Head Start programs.”

Synthetic ‘90s urban music, complete with female singers chiming “We’ve got your back,” is interspersed between the quotes.

According to theGrio, advertisements targeted toward African-Americans are typically released much later in the election season, in coordination with efforts to increase turnout.

“The timing of advertising to African-Americans, and the magnitude of ad spending with media outlets targeting or owned by African-Americans, has long been a source of tension between black media and the Democratic Party,” according to theGrio.

In the 2008 election, Obama carried an overwhelming 96 percent of black voters. But blacks are currently unemployed at a rate of 13.9 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics — the highest rate of any minority group.

A local radio host was talking about this ad yesterday.

He made the excellent point that this ad is specifically saying "vote for us and you can continue to receive your food stamps and other welfare benefits" while ads targeted to white people do not mention welfare.

Sounds pretty racist to me.

THIS ADVERTISEMENT>>>>>>

“Four years ago we made history,” a male announcer says. “Now it’s time to move forward and finish what we started together. We have to show the President we have his back.” The spot is inter-cut with audio from President Obama’s speeches, touching on familiar political and campaign themes.

“I refuse to pay for another millionaire’s tax cut by kicking children off of Head Start programs; asking students to pay more for college; or eliminating health insurance for millions of poor and elderly and disabled Americans on Medicaid,” Obama says in the ad.

"Have the president's back and register to vote. Go to GottaVote.org to register now. That's GottaVote.org," the announcer said at the end.

Are conditions for black people, esp. in the ghetto, better than they were four years ago?

Has the election of a black president done anything tangible for the black community?

Imagine if a white Republican president would have released this ad? They would be roundly condemned by the media for perpetuating racial sterotypes. I suppose we should be glad they stopped with the "90's urban music" and "We've got your back." and didn't say "YO DAWGS! WORD UP! DA BIG SHIZZLE BARRY O' BE NEEDIN YOU HELP TO BEAT WHITEY AND DA MAN THIS ELECTION! SO PUT DOWN THE PIPE , GET OUT A YO CRIBS, AND HIT THE STREET TO HELP DA BROTHA. N*GGA'S BE COUNTIN ON YA!"

Pandering is what politicians do, isn’t it? That’s like being surprised when a politician makes someting political.

if they approve of being used , abused , and $crewed, is it really being used , abused , and $crewed?

Trying to pander to Black voters as he approves of the destrruction of their babies in the wound by the millions, and doubles down on it, adding gender selection to the porcess.

Trying to pander to Black voters while presiding over the absolute worst black unemployment in a generation...and not mentioning it or doing anything about it.

Trying to pander to Black voters as he destroys their families and future by putting his Presidential approval and seal on Gay Marriages, further destorying the traditional black family and tennants of their faith.

Trying to pander to Black voters by focusing on a single incident of a black youth killed while involved in felony assault on a spanish-American, but ignoring the blight and horror of black on black violence that is killing thousands.

Yep, he’s pandering alright...but to anyone watching, this man seems to have more of a desire to punish, hold down, and destroy any vestage of dignity in the black community, and it’s families.

The ad should say, “You’re gonna stay flat on your backs as I’ve already said climate control will be my number one priority next term.”

Climate control? Not jobs or less crazy spending or less rules that make businesses struggle?

Apparently not in Austin. The Austin School board is trying to make "all girl" and "all boy" campuses. Cheryl Bradley [one of holder's people] says the middle schools are turning into a pipeline to prison for boys of color.

Why is he even bothering with the black vote? Its the one demographic you expect to stick with him come hell or high water.

Unless, their internal polling is showing disatifaction over his Gay Marrige plunge.

They now must know that Mitt and the GOP are serious and have a bigger war chest of funds. So I cant imagine them spending money on their base, unless they see somthing bad coming their way.

I encourage Obama to spend a lot of money to win over that 4% to 5% of blacks who voted in 2008 and did not vote for him.

It is estimated that there are about 17.4 million registered black voters. In 2008 about 16.1 million blacks voted.

So about 1.3 million registered black voters did not vote at all, and of those who did vote, somewhere around 800,000 did not vote for Obama.

The majority of those are no doubt in the big Nanny/Welfare states that he will carry by large margins anyway.

Shaz, maybe obama’s trying to move his poll numbers up a little bit figuring the sheep will then get in line.

Dilbert, I truly don’t think the large majority of those living in the ghetto expect it to get any better.
