Police in the Polish capital Warsaw are on full alert as Russia fans marched through the city centre in a celebration of Russian independence day.
Poland and Russia were drawn together in the European Championships group stage.

What, pray tell, Polish Prime Minister was murdered by the Russians and when?
It really was blown out of proportion by the sensationalist media which wants to portray Poland in the worst light possible. The vast majority of fans celebrated at the Fan Zone, without even noticing the skirmishes.
A plane crash - I thought it took out the whole Polish cabinet but my memory is not so good. People suspect that the Russians deliberately staged it.
“What, pray tell, Polish Prime Minister was murdered by the Russians and when?”
Lech Kaczynski and basically the entire Polish military and national security leadership died in a plane crash in 2010 when trying to fly into Russia to take part in a memorial service for the Polish citizens killed in Katyn in 1940. The Poles suspect that the Russians manipulated the ground navigation systems (Ivan wasn’t too happy about having to recognize the Kayn massacre). The Russians claim that there was ground fog and the Polish pilot ignored a recommendation to fly to an alternate airport.

Prime Minister? That’s the first mistake. The story is well known, Captain Obvious. The conspiracy theory has also been heard and roundly dismissed.
Thanks MinorityRepublican.
I read that Mexico ran up to the Russians and said “Independence Day? That’s nothing. We have TWO of them!”
The Russian Independence Day celebrates the day the Soviet Union officially ended, frankly it’s a holiday that both Poles and Russians could have celebrated.
Its unclear from the story whether the impromptu celebration was intended that way. You know, “Come out Poles and lets be pals!”.
Russians make Germans look like choirboys when considering malfeance..
Russians are almost as murderous as the Chinese.. not quite but almost..
They despise their OWN PEOPLE... first... and You second..
The Polish Prime Minister was murdered by the Russians in December 2010?
*bimp*
This was wholly expected, as the Polish futbol fans like to fight among themselves (that is the opposing teams’ fans) and don’t need any Russians or Germans to provoke them.
No different than when Millwall plays West Ham or any Rangers-Celtic match. And I wouldn't even call them football fans, they are just thugs who use football as the means to an end, it's their "Bloods vs Crips."
The conspiracy theories have been flying in Poland (and elsewhere) ever since and for good reason. The Russians don't exactly have a spotless history when it comes to dealing with troublesome Poles, including a certain nearly assassinated Pontiff.
you betcha. And some Russian kibicy waving Tsarist flags was a bit too much. What was strange is otherwise the Polish fans were peaceful, enjoying themselves — I saw Black and Asian folk there who were joyfully accepted by the fans in their partying.
Kaczyńskiej opposed being friendly to the Germans and Russians
The plane crash killed 93 Polish intelligencia -- to them it was like a second Katyń when Stalin's boys killed off thousands of Polish officers and intelligentsja
Do I believe it -- kinda. I initially taught that was too stupid of the Russians, but looking at Putin's foolish attempt to intimidate his neighbors to the west instead of worrying about the Moslems to the south and the chinese to the east.

I’ll tell you how conspiracy theories start. Just like the game of Telephone, or this thread, as a matter of fact. Someone hears something, changes it a bit, and passes it along to another someone who makes things up.
And so, there was no Polish Prime Minister murdered, and, a minor detail, there were 96 on the board of the plane.
That the Russians caused the accident is doubtful.
[The Polish Prime Minister was murdered by the Russians in December 2010?]
I made no claim of that, was just posting a link to Free Republic posts about the death of Polish President Lech Kaczynski and the others. It was big news at the time and I am Polish.
I missed your sarcasm in your first post #4 and was honestly just trying to show you the information.

This was the banner that was unfurled in the stadium during the Russian Anthem. The banner portrayed Dmitry Pozharsky, who led the Russian revolt against the Poles. At first I thought the banner was pretty awesome, until I researched the background and realized how provocative it was.
No problem katana, I just pinged you as a courtesy. We all thought the crash was very suspicious at the time. I remember following threads about the funeral afterwards.
If you’re Polish, then you’re probably aware of other wild conspiracy theories in that country, and the kind of people that subscribe to them. And this thread, as I said earlier, illustrates how conspiracy theories start and get spread around.
Not quite, lol, two of my grandparents came from Poland long ago, so I'm not familiar with the ‘goings ons’ there.
I just posted links to FR threads discussing the plane crash for anyone who didn't recall it.
Incorrect material is posted and spread around pretty often. It was done on ‘candidates’ threads a lot and you'll find it on the Zimmerman/Trayvon threads a lot too. People either get angry or ignore corrections.
I agree with you about it being a conspiracy theory, but going by the history of Poland where the Russians have been playing intrigues since the 18th century, it's a bit easier to understand why it's to be believed
Also note that the Russians were pretty slow to get to explanations, the investigation was haphazard etc -- breeding grounds for a conspiracy
That the Russians caused the accident is doubtful. -- improbable, yes, but going by Russian intrigues, not impossible. And that's the catch -- in Poland it's easy for Poles to believe the worst about the Russian government
All true, there were screwups before and after the crash during the Russian led investigation. Nevertheless, you should have heard some details of those conspiracy theories - the Russians created artificial fog, was one, another one had the Russkies killing the survivors with shots to the head. The conspiracy is especially popular among the super patriotic countryside segment, listenership of the Catholic radio and TV Radio Maria.
But the cause of the crash appear to have been rush to get there, incompetence on both sides, and bad luck.
