(CBS News) There are 228 dead: That's the number of murders this year in Chicago. It's nearly twice as many as the number of Americans lost on the battlefields of Afghanistan over these last six months. And the number of deaths is up 35 percent over the same period last year.
There was a time it was called "gangland" Chicago and maybe that time has returned.

The cops tell us it's the gang members who have turned some neighborhoods into free-fire zones. More people were cut down today.
Across Chicago, nine people were killed between Friday and Sunday, and two more were gunned down just hours ago - a murder rate of two a day.
"It's tragic," Pastor Robin Hood told CBS News. "This is like Beirut was in the 70s. It's war."
Hood lives in Chicago's North Lawndale neighborhood, where three of the victims were killed.
"People are scared to come outdoors," Hood explains. "They're scared for their kids to sit on the porches and play in the playground. It's total fear."

The article doesn’t mention the breakdown of the black family. I would think that has made the problems worse.
I’ve said it for years: kill a known gang member on sight and you save multiple innocent lives.

Here’s a solution:
1.) Place a $500 bounty on any known gang member. Bring in an arm with a Four Corner Hustler or Latin King tatto and get a no questions asked debit card. Personally I’d double it to $1,000 if it was one of those stupid neck tattoos.
2.) Open the National Guard Armory to any honest citizen with a clean record who lives in one of these neighborhoods. Hand them a Remington 870 and 50 rounds of buckshot or an M4 and 5 full magazines.
3.) Tell the recipients of these weapons that the bounties are doubled.
Here’s the dirty little secret about the killing that’s happening in Chicago. EVERYONE knows who’s doing it. EVERYONE knows where they live. But because it’s only happening in “those” neighborhoods to “those” people, nobody gives a damn.
Once the violence spreads to Hyde Park, the Gold Coast, or the North Shore you’ll see a crackdown like you won’t believe. If it stays localized in Lawndale it’ll go on and on and on and on....
The article does not mention whether if they are black, white, Asian, or whatever. I think you may be jumping to conclusions.

All the young doctor wanted to do was walk home from the hospital after work to his wife and child.
That walk, one he’s taken for years, takes him through the quiet and wealthy Streeterville neighborhood.
“It’s only four blocks from the hospital to my home,” the 36-year-old doctor told me. “But now I have to take a cab. Do you believe it? A cab for four blocks? I’m never going to walk it again, not after what happened to me Sunday night.”
He works at Northwestern Memorial Hospital as an attending physician. After work on Sunday, close to 10 p.m., he began his walk home, and along the way became a victim.
He crossed Chicago Avenue, then went north on the pathway through the park, past the people playing tennis on the courts to his right, then out to Dewitt Place.
“I saw the mob of them ... young teenagers, tweeners between 13 and 15 years old, like young kids you’d see at the mall,” the doctor said. “The thing I remember clearly was that they were enjoying frightening people. They went after a food delivery man on a bike. Then they went after me. It was like ‘Lord of the Flies.’
“And then they hit me with something, a hard blunt object on the back of the head, and I went down,” the doctor said.
Taken back to the hospital, he received treatment for facial wounds and received three deep stitches.
“My wife’s upset,” he said. “There was blood, but it could have been worse.”...

In the 50s & 60s, my family lived in Arl Hts (NW Suburbs), we had some family friends who lived near the lakeshore. We’d go snorkeling in Lake Michigan. South side was a no-no, but the rest of the city was safe. We moved in ‘67. All hell broke loose in ‘68 assassination riots.
Imagine the rumor that Holder had also been smuggling F&F guns to the Chicago gangs, but of instead of using them for “the revolution”, they are using them against each other.

I believe you are correct. The entire community leadership what it is is corrupt. I don’t think you can absolve the “Reverends” the politicians or the gang leaders they are all one big group of violent fanatics living out some race war fantasy. Small miracle they turn upon other gang members then.

Your thinking sounds like the usual line that liberals would use.
No the factual reason was that Mayor Daley leveled the housing projects and distributed housing vouchers to those people to encourage them to move to the suburbs. The suburbs have been seeing the resulting rise of gangs and drugs along with high black crime.

Black gangs are nothing new to Chicago. I sat through major Senate hearings on the Black P Stone Rangers in 1970. Lots of clergy gave the gangs the benefit of the doubt, only to be buttfucked by them.

Liberals gave the gangs tons of money and cover. Saul Alinsky was in there somewhere. Lots of drug money also involved.

Where gang member bounties would be effective, Rahm/Dim solutions (e.g., paying for unfathered babies) are not meant actually to solve problems, but rather accelerate "reparations" and reinforce Dim political power.
Gang activities are, in effect, being subsidized for political purposes, just as are Holder's non-prosecution of NBPP voter intimidation and anti-voter ID initiatives.
When the government subsidizes something, we inherently get more of that which is subsidized.

That's why I listen to the CPD Radio calls. My MIL still lives in our old neighborhood. Once nice and middle class, now a below poverty Barrio (98% Mex). So I listen close for the District she's in, the 8th, and the one that borders it, my old area though close was the 9th Dist. [South Kedzie Ave divides the 9th from the 8th]
Ditto for the wife's cousin, he's still in Marqeutte Park, also in the 8th Dist (long story why). A while back at a local Gas Station some punk Homie said to him: Whatcha doin' here white boy (he's well over 50, some 'boy'). And in the past little punks pulled guns on him when he was in his own GD yard. But he's 'stuck'. And his area is all black, a few blocks away West and North its brown, its a mini war zone. (I've told him a gazillion times to GET SOME GINS!)
If the section 8 maggots in my Burb ever get 'itchy' they'll be in a world of hurt. From both our PD and us residents (many many many gun owners).
