Hearst Daughter Joins Christian Campaign to Cover Up Cosmopolitan
New York Observer ^ | 6/13/12 | Kat Stoeffel

An online petition asking Hearst Magazines to cover up Cosmopolitan’s racy cover lines got a surprising new spokeswoman last week: Victoria Hearst, the daughter of former Hearst Corp. chairman Randolph A. Hearst and younger sister of Patty and Anne.

Reached at home in Colorado, Ms. Hearst told Off the Record that the company should “have a moral compass and put it in an opaque bag and make it sold only to adults.”

It’s a proposition that’s unlikely to go over well with her relatives on the corporation’s board. Cosmo’s cover lines, though comically blunt (“Your Orgasm Guaranteed,” “Um, Vagina, Are You Okay Down There?”), help make it the best selling consumer magazine on American newsstands. But Ms. Hearst is accustomed to being a black sheep. While her cousins and nieces appear on magazine mastheads and in society columns, Ms. Hearst used her inheritance to buy a 10,000 sq. foot barn in Ridgway, Colo., where she founded Praise Him Ministries in 2001.

Cosmopolitan is the best selling "consumer magazine"? What a pile of crap. Every cover has the same look and headlines: vacant, dead eyes...a promise of sexual fulfillment (that is apparently never kept, because the next month does it again)...and an "interview" with the latest "I can do it all" wannabe.

Vapid and vain.

May it go the way of the dodo.

I stopped buying Cosmo when I realized reading it was a good way to never find happiness about 30 years ago.

While such magazines are indeed vain and vapid, and offensive to some people, I doubt Hearst's campaign will get very far. There's too much of a market for that stuff, and since both the majority of women (who buy it) and the First Amendment (which protects offensive print) support it, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Cosmo to hide itself.

In other words I don't disagree with anything you've said. But I wouldn't expect anything much to happen.

The men's mags are the same way. If you are not banging a new chick each week something is wrong with you. These mags thrive on saying something is wrong with you and here is how we can help you out.

I’m with Victoria. Put it in a brown bag. Douse it with lighter fluid, and set it on fire.

But only in a well ventilated area.

I went to the Grocery store on Monday last week, and there were three columes of the “Fifty Shades” series. When I returned on Wednesday they were all gone with the exception of maybe one or two total left.

Cover up the same Sex Quiz and “Find Your Man’s Secret Pleasure Spot” articles they’ve been running since 1962? Yawn.

Now in general it is good advice when you are a single man alone with a single woman at her place to “go for it” - but my father told me that if you see - anywhere about her domicile - a copy of COSMO - DOUBLE “go for it”!!!!

My father never advised me on fornication strategies — nor even on how to take advantage of shallow, silly, gullible women.

I used to cringe when the coffee shoppe in the plant I worked in sold Cosmo, along with newspapers and other magazines. We were constantly browbeaten about sexual harrasment, but if a male employee had stuck a Cosmo cover on the wall in his cubicle he’d be lucky to get off with “re-education camp”.

Your loss church lady.

Oh yes, and in case you missed it the first time: Israel IS a U.S. ally and as acknowledged by treaty and every U.S. President in living memory.

The fact is that Israel is not bound by treaty to fight for us, nor we them. If it makes you feel warm and gooey to believe that’s an alliance, you’re welcome to your little dream.

No one ever called me church lady before. My father was my father, not my smirking wing man, and he raised me to be a man, not an arrested development p***y hound with no respect for others or himself.

“Since the rebirth of the State of Israel, there has been an ironclad bond between that democracy and this one.

In Israel, free men and women are every day demonstrating the power of courage and faith. Back in 1948 when Israel was founded, pundits claimed the new country could never survive. Today, no one questions that Israel is a land of stability and democracy in a region of tyranny and unrest.

America has never flinched from its commitment to the State of Israel—a commitment which remains unshakable.” Ronald Reagan

Yeah, an unshakable commitment and concrete military cooperation agreements don't make one an ally! In bizarro world!

Ah yes, because any man who engages in premarital sex with a willing COSMO reading female MUST BE one with arrested development and a pu**y hound with no respect for others or himself - to a prune faced CHURCH LADY.

Give it a rest Church Lady.

“let me tell you how really great is the challenge of proving your masculinity and charm with one woman for the rest of your life. Any man can find a twerp here and there who will go along with cheating”

Ronald Reagan, to his son.

And I agree with Reagan - both about Israel and about cheating on the woman you have promised to be with the rest of your life. Notice how I mentioned that both the male and the female in the scenario were “single”? Maybe in your abhorrence of physical relations without religious sanction you lost sight of that proviso.

I guess Ben Franklin was just a “smirking wingman” and had arrested development and was a pu**y hound with no respect for himself or others when he gave this advice to a young man of his acquaintance.....

As to Franklin, I wouldn’t be the first to label him a hypocrite and whore master.

Franklin was a man of far greater character comportment accomplishment and intellect than yourself by a long shot.

He was a man also of great morality - as his autobiography shows - his morality was of a different fiber than your own - being one that he derived through his own discernment rather than being one that he blindly followed only inasmuch as it allowed him to condemn others for immorality; as Church Ladies are wont to do.
