Greeks are pulling cash out of banks, stocking up on food in panic ahead of make-or-break election Sunday

ATHENS Greeks pulled their cash out of the banks and stocked up with food ahead of a cliffhanger election on Sunday that many fear will result in the country being forced out of the euro.
Bankers said up to 800 million euros (US$1 billion) were leaving major banks daily and retailers said some of the money was being used to buy pasta and canned goods, as fears of returning to the drachma were fanned by rumours that a radical leftist leader may win the election.
The last published opinion polls showed the conservative New Democracy party, which backs the 130 billion euro ($160 billion) bailout that is keeping Greece afloat, running neck and neck with the leftist SYRIZA party, which wants to cancel the rescue deal.

Sure this isn’t about the Obozo campaign?
Pray for America
I keep wondering what, if anything, will lead to this:
Could it be Greece? Italy?
Coming to a country near you very shortly!
I won’t be surprised if there’s a halt to ATM withdrawals before this day is out. And not just in Greece.
Kevin Costner just found his next investment.
Pulling out almost 1 billion $ a day?!
In all seriousness, this is series!
the sky is falling the sky is falling
Could massive inflation be next?
“Greeks are pulling cash out of banks, stocking up on food”
So are we.
—the sky is falling the sky is falling—
Ever see the opening scenes of The Pianist? Sometimes the sky really IS falling. And there is a LOT more evil in the world than there was back on September 1st, 1939.
Glenn Beck cutting an “Invest in Spaghetti-O’s” ad in 3......2.......1.......
..."My parents were in Greece for 2.5 weeks for my grandfathers 1-year memorial.
To get to the village, they landed in Athens and drove north west across the center of Greece to the town of Lefkada, also the name of the island. From there they drove to the town of Nydri and took a ferry to the island of Meganisi.
Dad said the people in Athens are hungry looking. The traffic at the international airport was basically non-existent. In his own words, you could roll a bowling ball down the middle of the concourse and not hit anyone.
The commercial districts of Lefkas and Nidri were dead. People are digging through trash cans to find food. A cousin of his has had his salary cut from 1500 euros/ month to 800 euros per month. ..."
The only scene I remember from that sick movie is the piano in the ocean. I thought the movie was bad.
Looks like someone has been reading your threads.
SYRIZA understands that they have EUROPE over a barrel, not the other way around. And they are appealling to the people who are demanding the FREE CHEESE the Socialists have been promising for generations, in return for votes.
If Greece leaves the Euro, the ‘Dream’ of a United Europe if finished. They’ll be forced to boot Spain next, then it’s all over.
Prepare while you can. Better late than never.
And I would highly recommend that excellent movie to everyone, but especially those who have perhaps forgotten how governments can be used in the service of monstrous evil.
To put that population in perspective, DFW Metromess has about 6 million people, and NY has about 19 million.
Yet, Obama pinned his re-election hope on a united europe.
He even cozied up and planned with the new French president.
Scolded Merkel. Winning friends all over .....
Watch for a bank holiday to be declared sometime in the next 72 hours or so.
What took place in 1930's Poland can very well happen in 2012 Greece.
—The only scene I remember from that sick movie is the piano in the ocean. I thought the movie was bad.—
I didn’t like it at first, but continued watching. It blew me away. The message(s) is very subtle, but powerful.
I now own it. There are a lot of lessons to be learned from the messages in this movie.
I pray that you are right!
What a world we live in when the corner three card Monte dealer is more honest than most of the Too Big to Fail banks and investment houses. And face it the Monte deal who scams a few hundred is a thousand times more likely to go to jail that the banksters that are stealing millions.
The game is so rigged now that the fraudsters dont even know how its going to play out. We are head for some bad times, which is one of the reasons Ive been sounding the alarm. Its time that you either prepare to stand on your own beholden to no one or accept that you will be a serf dependent on others to provide your basic needs.
As for me I dont want to be beholden to anyone for providing what is needed for me and mine. I certainly dont want to have to kiss some gubberment third class bureaucratic to try and coax some help from them, I dont want some jack booted thug herding me in line and telling me where to stand, sit, eat or sleep. And last but not least I dont want to be shut up with a bunch of zombies and have to worry about not only trying to get basic necessities but having to fight to keep what I manage to get.
Some seem to think that prepping is foolish, so I ask you whats easier telling your children and loved ones why you prepared or explaining to them why you didnt?
But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Timothy 5:8
But then someone has to stand on the bridge waiting for FEMA to bring them a bottle of water, an MRE and a warm blanket so as to provide the Network Anchors their background Money Shot. I wonder how that will workout for them?
I am not saying that things will turn Mad Max/Book of Eli, (With the possible exception of a brief time in a few of the larger big blue cities) but things could easily breakdown for 30 to 60 days during which basic supplies, goods and services stop, banking stops (No checks No Credit Cards, No Debit Cards so on...) now how many people do you think are ready for such?
And between those not ready and those who have always had the gubberment hand them everything what do you think the reaction will be?
Their reaction I think can be summed up in one of my favorite quotes:
Quark: Let me tell you something about Hew-mons, Nephew. Theyre a wonderful, friendly people, as long as their bellies are full and their holosuites are working. But take away their creature comforts, deprive them of food, sleep, sonic showers, put their lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time and those same friendly, intelligent, wonderful people... will become as nasty and as violent as the most bloodthirsty Klingon. You dont believe me? Look at those faces. Look in their eyes. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Siege of AR-558 (#7.8) (1998)
For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:
NOTE! THIS IS A FREE DOWNLOAD. I DO NOT MAKE ONE CENT OFF MY PREPAREDNESS MANUAL!
For those of you who havent started already its time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.
As the LDS say When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.
Or as the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3
Lastly this for the doubters and the scoffers.
There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger.
Underestimation can be fatal.
I'm trying to do the breakdown on the Greek population for head-of-households to figure out how much the average HOH is pulling out.
I'm pretty sure the 0-17 crowd aren't pulling out $1000/day.
The CIA should have an unclassified analyst help line for questions like this. ;)
Investing in canned food you’ll in is at worst an investment that pays the rate of food inflation, if you eat it in a year and didn’t pay the higher cost of buying it new at that time.
So you run to the bank to get all your cash out. You beat the crowds and you stuff your mattress with euros. What happens when your fiat currency that has no basis in real assets collapses? I mean, will the greeks even recognize it once there is no euro? Or will they create an exchange where you can turn them in for one drachma for thousands of euros(since it’s worthless once it collapses). I think the lucky ones who got their cash out might find themselves sitting on piles of the equivalent of our civil war confederate currency. Interesting to have, but worthless.
Remember some of the scenes from ‘Schindlers List’ how about the scenes for ‘Band of Brothers’ episode ‘Why we Fight’, maye you saw ‘Hotel Rwanda’ or how about ‘The Killing Fields’? Do you think the sky fell on those people?
You have to be pretty damned stupid not to see collapse and war coming at this point.
Evidently, even in Greece not everyone is that stupid.
Just hit the "Economy" drop down. Tons of good info there.
What is that a picture of?
As the economy and society are coming down around your ears is not the time to be “stocking up on canned food.”
There's a bit of analysis in that I'm trying to find the average amount the average HOH is pulling out.
We didn't cover that in culinary school. ;)
Odd how the MSM can't seem to 'get' this story...
Greece is a small enough economy that it can be propped up - makes it look like a country falling off a cliff in slow motion. When Spain or Italy falls, it’ll be fast - maybe not one hour - or one day - but close.

Thanks for the link:
The GDP of Greece was around $310 Billion. So $1 Billion/day out of an economy that small is significant.

I heard it said this way: The problem with Spain and Italy is that they are not too big to fail. Rather, they’re too big to do anything about if they do a Greece.
The U.S. in 2016?
From the CIA Factbook it seems there are about 3.5 million folks of “household” age. So if we divide a billion by that we get about 285.00 US per household, per day being pulled out of their banks.
Of course this is strictly a back of the envelope SWAG.
It’s a member of the Vorlon race from the TV show Babylon 5. Technically, it’s a Vorlon Encounter Suit since the Vorlon are non-corporeal beings.
Ambassador Kosh. He is a Vorlon from the sci-fi show Babylon 5.
That line is one of the few that he actually speaks on the show. It precedes a time of great upheaval in the storyline....a great evil has returned to the galaxy and it could mean the end of the 3rd Age of Man.
The Vorlons are the last of the great Ancient races who last defeated this evil some 1000 years before.
