Amity Shlaes (born September 10, 1960)

Amity Shales wasn't there to see it ... I was, and my family was no friend of "King Franklin the first."

Things I remember are ...

Young men coming to our door to sell things their mother's cooked -- things (like fried corn meal mush) that my mother started cooking herself.

A wood carving drunk in a gully across the road from our house.

Hobo jungles, especially near railroad tracks, all around the country.

People looking for work everywhere.

Public high schools (still in use today) being built as part of WPA (Works Progress Administration) p[rograms.

John Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wrath" quite vividly tells of those days.

Roosevelt, in many ways, deserved that shrine my neighbors had.

They see greater support in Romney.

That doesn't bode well for the claim of "severely conservative".

Maybe private sector union members simply realize that Obama's policies are bad for the private sector economy and that Romney's policies will be better.

Lots of folks realize this. Why not union members too?

Your post makes absolutely no sense.

You may be a good guy, and you may have served our country and worked hard, but you are posting sentimental, demagogic garbage.

Our country is in a lot of trouble. One reason for this is that there are too many stupid, ignorant, wrong-headed people who believe and profess commie evil.

That is what you are doing on this thread.

The Teamsters did indeed support Reagan in 1980.

How many pardons and presidential orders will be issued between the election day and Obama’s last day in office? I would think the poor B**tard will have a very cramped hand from clearing his friends and ordering the destruction of everything that he can.

It will take Romney two months to undo all the orders.

It will take two months just to fire all the cronies.

The justice department will be fighting untold litigation.

And man oh man, think of the non-stop vacations that the Obamas will be taking until the day of our emancipation!

” If the Repubs had a backbone, Barry and his minions would be in jail along with high fines. “ <<<<<<<

If the Republicans had a backbone they would have openly supported and funded a conservative who are all born with a backbone, solid enough to jail traitors for treason.

They preferred Romney. Guess they showed us.

And we’re going to vote for this socialist at the top of our ticket.

We deserve what we are getting, so it’s getting hard to get in much of a lather over what’s happening and for sure what’s coming.

We slept at minimum three decades too long, IMHO.

I’m with you.

I’m voting for a President, not a pastor.

Meaning if Obama loses, he will do whatever he can to allow the United States to be torn apart. It might just be shirking his usual and customary duties as President, or he may allow huge breaches of national security information. I would go so far as to say that by his orders, he might facilitate some kind of terrorist attack -- this could be a physical attack, or something more subtle like some computer virus or compromise of data. He will do whatever he can to leave this country in a shambles, so that the next President will need the next four years to clean up the mess, much less implement any worthwhile policy of his own.

Yes, from experience we know that those union journals make great fire-starters and compost.

It appears that Obozo is losing the support of a lot of the key groups which enabled him to be the el supremo leader.

He will never lose the support of the 25-30 % of the nation, who are the hard core rats. They will vote for him if they are alive or passed on.

What may happen is a lot of those who supported him in 2008 will sit out this election and not vote. College kids, recent unemployed high school grads and college grads with instant unemployment degrees, union members, and minority groups who expected everything to be paid for, may just opt not to vote.

That is a win for our side. If they don’t vote again for him, he will be hurting.

A large group that will vote and not for him are the real independents. He started losing a lot of these voters after his first year as glorious leader, and he will continue to lose them as he pimps for the hard core left voter like the gays, green eco terrorists, illegal alien vote, all of which he has.

These change over real independents will hurt him two ways:

1. He loses their votes.
2. They will vote for Romney.

May was a great month for our side and a terrible one for the previously chosen one.

June is looking even worse for the previously chosen one.

Lets hope the rest of the months will do one of two things to his previous voters.

1. They sit out this election.

2. They come over to our side and vote for Romney and Tea Party candidates to beour new congressits and senators.

I have some Union literature from the 08 election that was sent to members telling them who to vote for in CT. I will have to find that.
