Jonathan Pollard, the American-born spy for Israel, has spent the past 25 years in prison. Large portions of the American Jewish community and the Israeli government have been requesting his release for years.
In his most recent visit to the U.S., Shimon Peres brought a letter requesting Pollards release. The Obama administration is denying the request.
From Politico:
The White House said Wednesday that their position on releasing convicted spy Jonathan Pollard has not changed, despite pressure from both U.S. lawmakers and top Israeli officials.

Name the “US Lawmakers.”
Pollard, rot away traitor.
hear hear.
After this secrets leaking story, I wondered how long it would take for Israel to push for a sign of good faith and call for the release of Pollard. Only a week it turns out. I then expect that obami will comply despite what is written here. They will get his release.
When his time comes, he can leave prison in a bodybag.
If the Israeli quid-pro-quo is a promise not to attack Iran till the third week of November, Barry will have him on a plane to Tel Aviv quicker than you can say “mazeltov”.
Finally, the POtuS does something right... Pollard should rot on jail, then burn in hell
The last time a President seriously considered releasing Pollard he was met by a firestorm and threats of resignations from persons inside the intelligence community. I don’t guess they’re too happy right now with Obama and unless the Israelis can blackmail Obama with things even more damaging I don’t think he’ll touch it. Being cynical about all things Obama my guess is he’d like to release Pollard; 1) because he really doesn’t care about damage done to America and 2) because he is losing support of Jews in the polls.
I cannot believe they continue pushing for the release of this dirtbag. This is spitting in the face of the United States, nothing less.
They will do what's best in their national interest. Self preservation of the Jewish state far outweighs Pollard's release
Pollard’s treason was unforgivable.
Absolutely right...
Credit for doing the obvious right thing.
Of course you gotta keep watching this administration where treason is not necessarily frowned upon.
Absolutely! Just as Walker’s and Aames’s was. I wonder if they are still in prison?
1. They are trying to send a message to others who might spy for them. The message is that they always back their spies, and even if one of them is caught, Israel will do everything possible to get them released. If Pollard was released it would help their recruiting efforts and perhaps encourage their other spies to take greater risks.
2. There are also some domestic political benefits for any Israeli leader who gets Pollard released, since his backers have presented him as a hero and martyr.
Well, at least these A$$HOLES got one thing right in three and a half years!!!
Uh huh. Wonder if Barry-O had one of those Medeyev moments: “Wait until I’m re-elected and we’ll talk about Pollard. In the meantime...put the word out to the tribe on how to vote in November.”
Hey Shimon, here’s some letters for you:
U S S L I B E R T Y
On June 8, 1967, US Navy intelligence ship USS Liberty was attacked in international waters by Israel with full knowledge that this was an American ship and have lied about it ever since.
Thirty four Americans were killed in the attack and another 174 were wounded.
Tell the truth Israel and we can talk about Pollard.
