In Case You Don't Like Romney... A Challenge To Every FReeper
email from friend

In Case You Don't Like Romney...

Columnist Andrew McCarthy gives us what probably is the most important question regarding the upcoming presidential election …

“If Romney wins the nomination, as seems very likely, I will enthusiastically support his candidacy. For my friends who may have hesitation on that score, I’d just ask you to keep four things in mind:

1.. Justice Scalia just turned 78

2.. Justice Kennedy will turn 78 later this year

3.. Justice Breyer will be 76 in August

4.. Justice Ginsburg turned 81 about a week ago and has had cancer twice.

Whoever we elect as president in November is almost certainly going to choose at least one and maybe more new members of the Supreme Court — in addition to hundreds of other life-tenured federal judges, all of whom will be making momentous decisions about our lives for decades to come.

If you don’t think it matters whether the guy making those calls is Mitt Romney or Barack Obama, I think you’re smokin’ something funky….”

So for anybody who is thinking of not voting because your favorite didn’t get nominated, or writing in a candidate who can't win ... just imagine this possibility:

'SUPREME COURT JUSTICE ERIC HOLDER'

Did that get your attention!

Scalia and Kennedy could retire at any time, but are holding on to prevent an Obama appointment. It's a bitch to go to work every day when you are 78, but they are doing so to prevent Obama radicalizing the court.

Any FReeper who does not now work enthusiastically for the election of Mr. Romney is supporting the nomination of Eric Holder.... or Hillary Clinton to SCOTUS!

Like it or not, folks, those are the facts.

There are 100 important reasons to vote for Romney in spite of the fact that he's far from being the perfect candidate and the SCOTUS is right up there near the top. Those he might nominate are sure to be at least somewhat less odious, and very possibly would be much less odious, than either The Ugly Lesbian or The Wise Latina.

Ginsberg is the only one I can see being replaced in the next 4 years. Justices regularly hold on into their 80's. Willard will appoint liberals just like Hussein. There is not SCOTUS motivation to vote for Willard IMO. The more important election re: SCOTUS is 2016.

Reagan gave us O’Connor and Bush 41 gave us David Souter - Romney needs to give assurances that those kind of horrible mistakes will not reoccur in order to give the base confidence.

Records count. Romney’s record of Court appointments doesn’t lend well to this argument. His record indicates that his choices wouldn’t be substantially different than Obama’s.

In fact, if Romney wants to bring the base on board, he could do so with a credible promise to appoint only strict constructionists to the Court.

How to make credible promises on an etch-a-sketch platform is a problem I don’t know how to solve.

“UPDATE. Some of the troubling parts of the article for those claiming below “oh it’s just Massachusetts”.
Troubling Part #1

Romney, despite his opposition to same-sex marriage, in May selected for a district court judgeship Stephen S. Abany, a former board member of the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association who organized the group’s opposition to a 1999 bill to outlaw same-sex marriage. Just two days before the nomination, Romney was lamenting the liberal tilt of the state’s bench, telling Fox News that ‘’our courts have a record here in Massachusetts, don’t they, of being a little blue and being Kerry-like.”
Talk about doing one thing and saying another.
Troubling Part #2

Another Romney choice for the bench is Marianne C. Hinkle, a registered Democrat who worked as an aide to Governor Michael S. Dukakis in the late 1970s and prosecuted John C. Salvi III in the 1994 Brookline abortion clinic shootings. Hinkle, in her application for the bench, describes herself as a longtime active member of Dignity/USA, a group that advocates for expanded gay rights in the Catholic Church and society generally.
Great. Nice moderate choice there, Mitty.
Troubling Part #3

Romney, asked if he has engaged in any horse-trading with Democratic politicians, said: ‘’So far I have not ever given any weight whatsoever to whether I think someone can make it through the Governor’s Council. I send them individuals who I feel are highly qualified and have the right judicial temperament related to crime and punishment.”
I was about to give him some leniency due to the makeup of the council, but he says it does not matter. He only cared about crime, but not other judicial issues? Wow.”

http://archive.redstate.com/blogs/mikeks/2007/dec/20/romney_appointed_liberal_judges_in_massachusetts

Like I keep saying, it just comes down to hating Obama more.

Pray God nothing happens to permit Obama to replace any Justice before January. Even Ginsburg being replaced with a 40 year old new liberal Justice is a disaster.

I’d also mention the US Attorneys. When you have a dem run state, they can be the only hope for justice. Without them you live in fear of corruption and persecution.

MindBender ...

I guess that I'm starting to sound like a broken record here ...

While yours is a great thought ... the importance of the four (4) SCOTUS Justice nominations ...

the primary fallacy ...

is "Myth Romney" himself. Period.

We TEA Party Conservatives have watched in "bitter anguish and frustration" at the ruling GOP E-RINO Yacht-Club boys ...

ALWAYS -- ALWAYS -- ALWAYS ...

screw-us over ...

They cry and weep on TV ... when they should be fighting ...

"This ONE thing I know" ...

and EVERYONE AT FREE REPUBLIC can "take this to the bank" ....

"If" Myth Romney is actually sworn is as POTUS ...

using the APOSTATE Joseph Smith bible (of course) ...

he'll make Bush-41's broken promise of "Read My Lips No New Taxes" look like Davy Crocket at the Alamo ...

We will all be "amazed" how "SEVERELY" Myth will make us all look like BOZO the CLOWN FOOLS ...

Period.

Four (4) new SCOTUS Justices ?

Nominated by the PATHELOGICAL-LIAR-JERK that Romney is ?

Hell ... you might as well let Henry Waxman nominate those new Justices ... or Harry Reid for that matter ...

"Mr Romney" can kiss Joseph Smith's pinky ring finger, for all that I'm concerned ...

Bad news.

Based on Romney’s record of appointing judges in Massachusetts, he will, most likely, appoint “conservatives” like David Souter or “strict constructionists” like Harriet Miers. Or worse. Romney did much worse in the Massachusetts.

If I were not already voting against Obama, this would not convince me to vote for Romney.

This is EXACTLY why MR. RomneyCARE should NOT be trusted.

Has Mr. RomneyCARE apologized for his PAST appointments yet?

"Governor Mitt Romney, who touts his conservative credentials to out-of-state Republicans,
has passed over GOP lawyers for three-quarters of the 36 judicial vacancies he has faced
,
instead tapping registered Democrats or independents -- including two gay lawyers who
have supported expanded same-sex rights, a Globe review of the nominations has found.
Of the 36 people Romney named to be judges or clerk magistrates, 23 are either registered Democrats
or unenrolled voters who have made multiple contributions to Democratic politicians
or who voted in Democratic primaries, state and local records show.
In all, he has nominated nine registered Republicans, 13 unenrolled voters,
and 14 registered Democrats."
- Boston Globe 7/25/2005

Romney Rewards one of the State's Leading Anti-Marriage Attorneys by Making him a Judge
Romney told the U.S. Senate on June 22, 2004, that the "real threat to the States is not the
constitutional amendment process, in which the states participate,
but activist judges who disregard the law and redefine marriage . . ."
Romney sounds tough but yet he had no qualms advancing the legal career of one
of the leading anti-marriage attorneys.
He nominated Stephen Abany to a District Court.
Abany has been a key player in the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association which,
in its own words, is "dedicated to ensuring that the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decision
on marriage equality is upheld, and that any anti-gay amendment or legislation is defeated."
- U.S. Senate testimony by Gov. Mitt Romney, 6/22/2004 P>

"Romney announces he won't fill judicial vacancies before term ends
Despite his rhetoric about judicial activism, Romney announced that
he won't fill all the remaining vacancies during his term - but instead
leave them for his liberal Democrat successor!

Governor Mitt Romney pledged yesterday not to make a flurry of lame-duck
judicial appointments in the final days of his administration . . . David Yas,
editor of Lawyers Weekly, said Romney is "bucking tradition" by resisting the urge to
fill all remaining judgeships. "It is a tradition for governors to use that power to appoint judges
aggressively in the waning moments of their administration," Yas said.
He added that Romney has been criticized for failing to make judicial appointments.
"The legal community has consistently criticized him for not filling open seats quickly enough
and being a little too painstaking in the process and being dismissive of the input of the
Judicial Nominating Commission," Yas said.

Like or not romney has governed as a liberal, especially socially. How many people here questioned in past elections how democrats who say they are Christians, can vote for someone who is pro abortion and pro gay marriage/ gay adoption? Now if your not voting for Romney your criticized. Its so sad how people are compromising their values because of fear and no faith in God that if we rise up worked together we could take out romney. The fear and hate of one man, obama, is causing people to hold their nose and vote for someone who is a little less worse than obama
is pathetic.

Anyway, I have yet to hear Romney ask for social conservative votes, in fact he says he does not have to, that we will vote for him. At least Obama has enough respect for his voters to ask for their votes. Romney has yet to go to a single social con event Romney is calculated and arrogant. He’ assumes so con will cave. He's assuming too much.

Romney’s “accomplishments”.

1. Implemented/created Gay Marriage in MA

2. Supported and forced Gay Adoption in MA

3. Supported Abortion wholeheartedly

4. Raised taxes/fees over 300% while being Governor of MA

5. Implemented a state-level Cap and Trade system.

6. Supported Man-Made Global Warming

7. Supported the Brady Bill

8. Implemented a state level “Assault” Weapons Ban after the Federal AWB was allowed to expire.

9. Supported TARP

10. Supported Amnesty for Illegal Aliens (Citizenship for those already here)

11. Supported McCain-Kennedy (Amnesty)

12. Implemented a socialized medicine in MA called RomneyCare complete with an Individual Mandate and $50 abortions.

13. Nominated 27 Democrats (out of 36 nominations) for judgeships in MA, many of them extreme left-wingers

So you think Romney is better on judicial appointments than Obama?

His record as Governor shows he is not.

He nominated 27 out of 36 far-left, Progressive Liberal extremists to the bench.

Legal analysts say candidate Romney is different from Gov. Romney.

Liberty Counsel Action Vice President Matt Barber said Romney’s appointments were constitutional “living document” poster children.

“Many of Romney’s appointments were not only liberal, not only Democrats, but were radical counter-constitutionalists. How on earth can we expect that, as president, he would be any different?” Barber asked rhetorically.

“Actions speak louder than words, and Mitt Romney’s actions as governor scream from the rooftops that he cannot be trusted with this most important of presidential responsibilities.”

Barber cites two specific examples of Romney’s radical appointments.

“As governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney not only failed in this regard, he appointed a number of very liberal, if not radical, ‘living, breathing’-minded judges to the bench,” Barber said.

“Two that come to mind were extreme homosexualists Marianne C. Hinkle and Stephen Abany,” he said. “They both had a long history of pro-gay activism, yet Romney didn’t hesitate to put them on the bench.”

“These are people who outrageously believe the postmodern notion that newfangled ‘gay rights’ trump our constitutionally guaranteed First Amendment rights,” he said.

Baldwin agreed, citing Romney’s statements about the two requirements he actually used when selecting judges.

“Romney did focus on two criteria: their legal experience and whether they would be tough on crime. In other words, the nominee could be a gay activist or a pro-big government, pro-quota, pro-gun control Democrat Party hack who detests every judicial principle treasured by our founding fathers,” Baldwin said. “But if he happens to be tough on crime and have prosecutorial experience, he gets past the Romney filter. Many of Romney’s nominees fit that description.”

Baldwin added that Romney did have some ideological criteria for many of his nominees:

“It was criteria commonly used by the left. For starters, his nominees were mostly pro-abortion. Indeed, while campaigning for governor in 2002, Romney told the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) that his judicial nominees would more likely protect abortion rights than would those of a Democrat Governor, according to notes from a person attending this meeting.”

Another Romney criteria, Baldwin explained, was “diversity.”

“The other criteria consistently emphasized by Gov. Romney in deciding judicial selections was ‘diversity.’ This is the silly notion that judgeships should reflect the population in terms of race and gender and even sexual orientation, regardless of a person’s judicial philosophy,” he said. “Clearly, the use of diversity quotas demonstrates Romney’s lack of a coherent conservative worldview.”

Barber agreed with Baldwin’s assessment, adding that Romney’s record while governor is reason for concern, because the next president may radically reshape the federal bench.

The difference is he can be manipulated to be reelected, unlike Obama. That puts the responsibility on us. Too much for some to handle but better than zero chance with O. It worked with the Harriet Meyers nomination.

"Any FReeper who does not now work enthusiastically for the election of Mr. Romney ... " We wouldn't have to pack fudge or push stools, would we?

Mr. RomneyCARE CANNOT be manipulated.
He lies repeatedly and has no shame about it.

Consider his employment of illegal aliens.

Consider his coverup of the BIG DIG.
Consider RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE.

Mr. RomneyCARE does not care what you, or conservatives,
think any more than he did when he allowed his Team
to destroy Gov. Palin on the nights before Election 2008.

Do you have any empirical evidence to back up that wild assumption on your behalf?

Why would you believe that a documented, serial liar, could be manipulated in any conservative direction you want him to go?

Here is the reality.

We conservatives lost the primary. We need to get over it. The why we lost is meaningless. The question is; do we build on our Wisconsin win, or do we squander it in petty internecine crybaby bickering?

Every general election is either the more-conservative candidate, or the more-liberal. So it is this year.

Do you want the more-liberal candidate, or the more-conservative candidate? Those are the only two choices, and your actions will help elect one of them.

All the current anti-Romney stuff only does one thing; help reelect Obama.

That is reality. The rest is crying over split milk. Period.

MB you are making great assumptions that Romney will appoint conservative or even “moderate” judges, he did not while governor, so why would he when president?

I would have to do some research on who romney appointed while Gov and how those appointees have ruled since they were appointed.

But even knowing he appointed questionable choices as Gov in Mass would not convince me he would be the same as or worse than 0dumbo

Knowing you have to choose one of the 2 to make your vote county which would you choose?
