Governor Corbett's budget cuts have been the source of much debate in recent months, and today a protest in downtown Erie brought out police forces.

For the past few weeks it's been peaceful protests downtown by a group calling for action against budget cuts to human services.

They gathered on State Street earlier today in front of the building which houses the governor's Erie office.

Within a few minutes, the protesters moved into the street, blocking traffic completely.

“Cuts to ‘Human Services’” — You have to wonder how our benighted forbears 100 years ago managed to get by without “Human Services.” How in the world did families, churches, fraternal organizations, Salvation Army, and the local community chest ever manage to take care of people?

Human services, what a nice sounding gentile humanitarian program title for the “heroin” addicted masses. Touted in the begining by our feeder drug dealer politicians as a security net has now told them it is your right. We have not been minding the store all these years and allowing the criminals we elected dish out the candy

You hit it - it always is a souce of wonder to me that liberals don't even understand the meaning of such words except to fight them tooth & nail

The phrase...charity starts at home...comes to mind. Of course in the liberal mindset...Godly type charity is subordinate to government redistribution.

It always amazes me that a liberal must be mandated by the government to be charitable. That in the liberal mind nobody gives enough...so it must be taken and redistributed as someone else see’s fit.

I have a friend who provides ride services for these people. She is upset as the cuts means she could lose her job, but as she put it...the folks lose their ability to get to the dr., services, etc. they need. I asked her the stupid question...what about their family and friends providing the ride? Why is some of this stuff the taxpayer’s responsibility? Why has the taxpayer become the immediate support group?

Today's government "charity" is just like the gov't building roads to ease traffic jams - doesn't work.
Improving old roads, or building new ones, only invites more cars.

There was a similar protest that took place yesterday in New York's Washington Square Park, near NYU. The Occupy Wall Street crowd was there protesting tuition hikes. Based on the red star at the bottom of the placards, it was organized by the Workers World Party youth group F.I.S.T. Tons of police and vehicles around.

Re: Occupy Wall Street, Washington Square Park, NYC

From Oct 2011...

"Thousands of anti-greed protesters invaded Washington Square Park today, vowing to fan the flames of dissent and putting them toe-to-toe with cops ready to enforce a curfew.

The estimated 3,000 people flooded the iconic park compared themselves to the "Arab Spring" demonstrations that have toppled totalitarian governments in the Middle East [note: Bill Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn and Code Pink, commies all, played a role in organizing "Arab Spring" -ETL].

One speaker urged the crowd -- that hooted and waved hands instead of clapping -- to squat in empty or abandoned buildings and declared, "they have their debts and we have our revolution."

“There are foreclosed homes, empty school buildings that should be made available to all,” she said. "Occupy everything."

If they supported pro growth economic policies this wouldn’t happen.

The nicest thing I can say about Erie is that Interstates 79 and 90 are designed efficiently enough that you don’t even have to stop.

If Pennsylvania was a person, then Philadelphia would be the anus, Scranton would be the armpit and Erie would be the urethra with Lake Erie being the puddle it peed.

If Pennsylvania was a person, then Philadelphia would be the anus,

...and New Jersey is what would be excreted.

Love your elabortation of an old line...I know it as "if Pennsylvania needed an enema they'd put the tip in Philadelphia"
