A downtown councillor wants the city to ban guns and ammunition in Toronto because hes tired of gun violence.
Theres no rational reason to own a gun in the city. Gophers arent chewing up our fields, we have no black bears going through our garbage bins and the raccoons arent dangerous enough, said Councillor Adam Vaughan in an interview. I appreciate that people like them as a sporting hobby. I appreciate that people like their guns and love their activities, but those are emotional arguments. And Im sorry, the risks that are presented from the stores, the selling and the possession of weapons in this city is presenting too big a problem.
Mr. Vaughan said hunters and collectors should find a place outside Toronto to store their weapons. He would also like to see a ban on materials used to make handmade bullets such as casings, gunpowder and primers.
The councillor said his motion, to be tabled at the next council meeting, was not inspired by the Eaton Centre shooting in which two men were killed and five others wounded, including a 13-year-old boy who was shot in the head.
Weve had scene after scene in this city, repeated now and I have been on council for six years of bullets flying through Toronto, hitting people.
Mr. Vaughan said he recognizes he will be challenged by the gun community but said he is ready for the fight, which includes the mayor and the federal Conservative government.
Public Safety Minister Vic Toews called the proposed bullet ban a misdirected effort on Wednesday.
The issue isnt the legality or illegality of bullets or guns. The issue is these guns in the hands of criminals.

More leftoid BS.
Go kiss Bloomberg’s a$$.
“The problem is guns in the hands of criminals.”
So pass a law and all those law-abiding criminals will turn in their guns, right?
How can one argue with such a BRILLIANT, highly polished piece of semantic SH*T?
The guy needs to be mugged, or raped, or both.
I’ve read that it is not a gun problem it’s a Jamaican problem. I do not know if this is true.
I always have fun when visiting Toronto.
To be a liberal, a mentally defective idiot, one must believe that laws not to murder under threat of capital punishment does not stop murder but a 5 year prison sentence for possession of a gun does.
That's how we'll get rid of crime -- we'll pass a law against it!
Actually, I think its a good idea. In Ontario AND Quebec.
Then when the Anglophone population in the rest of Canada locates its testacles and backbone, it will be easier for them to send all the Qubecois the hell back to France.
When speaking of the likes of Bloomberg, tyranny is definitely first on the menu. But let's not forget that "a nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves". Which came first? Does it matter?
And just how many 6 year old children can write like that!
Even the name is a give away. “Chuckie Bloomer”.
I used to go to Toronto most weekends from the late 1960’s (standing room for the Toronto Maple Leafs) and you could walk around that beautiful city 24/7 without a worry.
Then they went on a diversity kick and now regarding safety.... not so much.
The “we are all equal” crowd will never admit “we are not” in spite of all the evidence to the contrary. Each group has a bell curve associated with intelligence, size, technical skills, violence and those bell curves are NOT all located in the same spot left to right.
Still love Toronto only not so much as before.
It matters somewhat when you try and figure out a solution. Bloomturd is the symptom. New Yorkers are the problem. Since you can't wholesalely cure willful ignorance in New Yorkers - especially since the majority are too arrogant and pleased with themselves (we live in "the city") to even admit that their ideas are dumb, it's quite a challenge. The best you can do is support pro gun candidates in the other districts and hope that sanity is contageous. I've pretty much written off urban Atlanta as not being something I work on, but I do volunteer for progun candiates in the donut surrounding the cesspool.
Instead of an all-out ban he could talk to Joycelyn Elders and get advice about safe guns and safe bullets. /s
He should have stopped right there -- then he would have been truthful...
Okay, so there may not be bears in Toronto, but aren’t there bi-pedal predators in Canada?
No doubt, but as they are likely of the "protected" groups, leftists do not want them harmed.
