Boy Scouts begin defense against allegations of failing to protect boys from sex abuse

After seven days that included testimony from victims of sexual abuse by assistant Scoutmaster and volunteer Timur Dykes, the jury heard from a long-time Scouting executive who said he had been alert to the danger posed by predators from the beginning of his career in 1960

Part of the defense's strategy appears to be to place fault on the Mormon church. Doe --and other men who were molested by Dykes after he confessed to the bishop – have settled with the church.

Xochihua played part of a video deposition of Doe's father, who said he dropped out of Mormon church because of what happened to his son. "I just really didn't trust the people in the church," he said on the video.

When I went through Cub Scout leadership training I was told to be wary of male ‘volunteers’ who did not have children in the program.

So, after they release the files under court order, and all the men listed start suing the boy scouts for defamation, and of course the Boy Scouts have no evidence for the charges and therefore no defense, will the court protect them from the lawsuits?

“...alert to the danger posed by predators from the beginning of his career in 1960 ...”

How we could doubt the problem existed, now or back then, I cannot understand.

God sent Angels to Sodom to warn the town of the dangers of homosexuality, and look what happened to the Angels.

All this deliberation seems to silly when the truth is so obvious. If a person thinks it’s OK to have sex with little boys, then maybe they should choose a different hobby. If one thinks it’s OK to molest little girls, then don’t get mad when they turn down your job app at the Girl’s Academy Daycare.

I have read the article twice and I am still scratching my head.

If the BSA keeps a list of files that they use to keep potential predators from being involved in scouts, wouldn't this show that they where PROACTIVE in preventing sexual abuse of boys in the scouts? If they didn't keep lists and allowed anyone that passed a basic back ground check to be involved, regardless of suspicions of other leaders, wouldn't that make them much more culpable in this regard?

What is the scandal? Why are they responsible if they took legitimate steps to keep predators away from boys. Isn't this why they deny access to open homosexuals since boys ages 7 - 18 are MOST vulnerable to sexual confusion and abuse?

These are legitimate questions, what am I missing? How are they liable?

I thought the Left was against private organizations keeping files on people (as well as the Police, FBI doing the same thing unless a crime was committed)?

I wonder where the ACLU is going to end up on this issue, or will they sit it out?

This might provide a legal opening for other lawsuits to open up private files if there are charges of illegalities. This could apply to the Black Panthers, Sharpton’s National Action Network (fraud), Jesse Jackson’s PUSH (money used for illegal foreign contacts), ACORN (criminal frauds, election fraud), George Soro’s front (CAP, Open Society Foundation/Institute, etc).

Beware of what you wish for.
