Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) declared on the Senate floor Thursday that the debate over whether humans are causing climate change is over, and that it has been shown conclusively that human activity is leading to global warming.
"People say there are questions about the theory," he said. "No, there are not.
"The argument that the jury is still out on climate change is a false and bogus argument," he added. "The jury is not out. In fact, the jury is in, the effects are obvious, they surround us every day, and we need to take action."
Whitehouse said the theory that warmth creates a moist atmosphere that traps heat has been around since the Civil War. "That's been basic textbook science for a century," he said. "It's never been controverted. It's a law, essentially, of science."

Actually, I was shocked that the National Geographic did a comprehensive article on the sun, and explained that the sun goes though many differing cycles of output, from 11 year cycles to thousand year cycles.
Yeah, I was amazed, but more amazing was that the article didn’t mention global warming - er - climate change.
So I wrote a letter to the editor thanking them for some real science about the variability of the sun. Doubt it will get published.
BTY, the output of the sun is the equivalent to exploding 100 million hydrogen bombs per second - and to think that some gases coming out of your clean tailpipe scrubed of emmissions by a platinum screen in your catalytic converter are causing global weather variation.

No, the use of the word "jury" is a lame straw-man attempt to frame an issue as something that has a discussion and then a consensus. This is the case if the issue was a political one. But, it's not.... it's a scientific one. And there is no such entity of a jury... just a lot of interested scientists, some wanting grant money saying that there is man-made GW, and some honest scientists saying the whole notion is a bunch of crap.
What we’re looking at right now is another LITTLE ice age such as started around the time of Joan of Arc and is caused by fluctuations in solar output. Real ice ages have cosmic causes and centuries worth of warning, we are not in danger of anything like that.

A 2011 study in the Journal of Forecasting took the same data set and compared model predictions against a “random walk*” alternative, consisting simply of using the last period’s value in each location as the forecast for the next period’s value in that location. The test measures the sum of errors relative to the random walk. A perfect model gets a score of zero, meaning it made no errors. A model that does no better than a random walk gets a score of 1. A model receiving a score above 1 did worse than uninformed guesses. Simple statistical forecast models that have no climatology or physics in them typically got scores between 0.8 and 1, indicating slight improvements on the random walk, though in some cases their scores went as high as 1.8.
The climate models, by contrast, got scores ranging from 2.4 to 3.7, indicating a total failure to provide valid forecast information at the regional level, even on long time scales. The authors commented: “This implies that the current [climate] models are ill-suited to localized decadal predictions, even though they are used as inputs for policymaking.”

The pro global warming folks have a lot of cute little graphs, maps, and cherry picked numbers but I want to see actual and undeniable proof before taking any action. Could it actually be proven that all of these horrible things the bleeding heart left bleet on about are true then everyone would support finding ways to stop it. Problem for them is that the evidence is not compelling and enough people correctly see what is going on as an attempt to attack the capitalistic system and freedom.

It has been conclusively proven that certain humans are faking climate change data to push a radically extreme environmental and social agenda on the rest of the world. Anyone who says different is bogus.

There’s a war going on in the Democrat Party right now, between the union wing of the party and the green wing. Obama has been trying to do a balancing act between the two, counting on the green wing to vote for him no matter what, kind of like when he sided with the defense of marriage in 2008 against the gays.
Right now, Obama is going with the unions, trying support the export of coal and farm products through “Gateways” on both coasts. It’s not the coal or the farm products that he is necessarily supporting though, it’s the building of ports and terminals to export America’s natural resources and food stuffs to developing countries where the manufacturing will take place.
Obama says that his second term will be dedicated to clean energy and anti-nuclear proliferation. So, the Greens should stick with him for another 4 years.
Obama’s union goals are dependent on big federal investments in ports, terminals and trains, as detailed in the Senate version of the Transportation re-investment and renewal act, which was DOA in the House and hopefully will stay dead. No silver bullet yet though, not with Boehner as Speaker.

Even the most radical studies indicate that human activity contributes to global warming, but is not the primary source. In short, he's a liar!
Um, yes, because a lawyer is *so* qualified to read actual studies and discern the difference between those based on pure speculation (i.e., which say that "if global warming continues, we can expect disastrous results") and those which actually investigate whether mechanisms exist to link human activity to global climate, and how much of an effect those mechanisms have. Speculative papers abound, as do those which present study results and include a throw-away statement about how their results can be partially explained by global warming. The abundance of such papers does not establish human contribution to global climate; it establishes that politicians who control the grant money influence researchers to link their studies (of legitimate topics) to climate change research.
I've yet to see a paper that actually addresses whether the proposed mechanism of global warming (that the broad fluorescence band that CO2 exhibits within the IR portion of the electromagnetic spectrum increases the total energy content of the atmosphere) really has a significant effect.
