Three months after Taylor J. Baune married his high school sweetheart, the 21-year-old Marine corporal from Andover has been killed in Afghanistan.

"I am trying to hang in there," his wife, Colleen Baune, said Thursday, June 14, from her home in San Diego after learning of his death. "I think everyone is still in shock."

The military said Baune was killed Wednesday during a combat operation in Helmand province. His wife, 20, said he died in a roadside bomb explosion while on foot patrol.

Her husband became the 2,000th American to die in the U.S. war against the Taliban in Afghanistan, the military said.

Awful. No doubt our “allies” in Pakistan bear some responsibility for this.

I wonder how many more brave Americans have to die for Obama and the Democrat’s flawed policy of “right war, right time”.

Half of those dead were killed under President Zippy.

Makes me remember my own family and ancestors...

In 1862, my great... uncle married his sweetheart in North Collins, New York - both 18. He went off to war with the 116th New York and only a few months later was killed in his first action at the Battle of Plain Store, part of the Port Hudson campaign.

War is hell. It’s been said before...

You will not see the big media saying anything about this, like the running total during Bush's administration.

Every casualty is a tragedy. But I have to put things into perspective. 2000 killed in 10 years. At Gettysburg, nearly 1500 were killed in ONE day in ONE charge from ONE division (Pickett's).

I agree the we need to go all Sherman on the enemy (both Afghans and Pakis) and show them we really mean business. It seems that we have forgotten that “War is cruelty. There's no use trying to reform it, the crueler it is the
sooner it will be over.”
