‘Immigration Reform’ Does Not Automatically Equal ‘Amnesty’ (Stabbed in the back)
National Review Online - The Corner ^ | June 15, 2012 | Tom Minnery

Posted on 06/15/2012 10:12:38 AM PDT by C19fan

Webster’s dictionary defines “amnesty” as “a general pardon for offenses, especially political offenses, against a government, often granted before any trial or conviction.” Unfortunately, far too many others define it as the only possible thing anyone means when calling for “immigration reform,” as Focus on the Family did this week.

The emotion behind the assumption is understandable. Immigration reform remains a hotly contested issue that stirs up a great deal of passion on all sides. At Focus on the Family, we have a wide range of perspectives as to what might solve what is clearly a problem in the way we treat and ought to treat non-citizens within our borders, and none of them involves “amnesty.”

After what happened with Simpson-Mizoli amnesty won't be fooled again. Sounds like the promises from Simpson-Mizoli amnesty during Reagan administration. With that amnesty parts 2 - 4 were ignored. Let me add Part 6: Federal Government never gets serious about parts 2-4 therefore in another twenty years we will be back to Part 1 redo loop every 20 years.

There has not been a meaningful “Immigration Reform” proposal — from either side — that did not include amnesty.

Trust me, the American People know that “Immigration Reform” EXACTLY EQUALS “Amnesty.”

And sure enough, here it is in this proposal:

>>5. Create a path to legal status for those who are here without proper documentation and who are willing to come forth, identify themselves, and pay appropriate fines for having transgressed our laws.<<

IOW, Amnesty.

AMNESTY

We both know where this is heading. In 20 years, the USA is toast.

As the rule of law can be selectively enforced or dismissed by the powers that be. I am starting to think if people do not agree with a law, just say the hell with it and go one’s own way.

Why would we have a open border during the the ‘WOT’?

Gov’t does not factor in the deaths, rapes, murders, and other crimes committed by illegal aliens as sufficient enough to secure the citizenry.

This other things you will see Obama do in the near future are to distract from the real trouble he and holder are in, Fast and Furious. Wiretaps proving they lied and this:

Blogger Vanderboegh reports murdered ICE agent investigating Fast and Furious
Examiner.com ^ | 6/15/12 | David Codrea
Posted on June 15, 2012 9:51:52 AM CDT by Nachum

In a second bombshell report this week, citizen investigative journalist Mike Vanderboegh is reporting this morning on the Sipsey Street Irregulars blog that Congressional investigators have viewed “an Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) Report of Investigation (ROI) from August 2010 describing 80 weapons seized in an arms smuggling interdiction between Phoenix, Arizona and San Antonio, Texas. Of these weapons, the majority (approximately 50) were noted to have come from Operation Fast & Furious in Arizona…”

Someone was murdered and it’s their fault.

If I were a lib, I’d be laughing, smiling and flipping everyone the bird too.

Most people in this country want a border crackdown, but the only plans in our government are open borders proposals.

Thus is life in Obamaland.

Now go pay your taxes, these illegals need the money. :)

Immigration Reform is not needed.

Enforcement of existing laws is what we need.

For many years, presidents, Senators and Congressmen of both political parties have consistently broken their solemn oaths of office by either violating existing immigration laws, ignoring them or allowing others to do so with impunity.

A government that declares it has the power to force everyone to buy health insurance pretends to be powerless to deal with sanctuary cities and an ongoing flood of illegals crossing the southern border. Not to mention millions filling jobs illegally, stealing welfare, food stamps, medical care and other benefits intended for citizens.

Each president seems to push the pro-illegal envelope a little further and each congress looks the other way.

Now we have a tyrant in the White House who has decided that he is beyond being a president - he has declared himself to be King by his deeds. He ignores and violates his oath of office, the law of the land, the US Constitution and the will of the electorate.

this is the crack in the door Obama has been wanting. From here on it will be gradually widened until a few years from now, it will be the open border democrats so dearly seek. Even if Obama loses, no one will try to undo the action because of Hispanic voting numbers. This must not stand.

Immigration Reform is not needed.

While I agree with almost everything in your post, we do need to stop giving LPR status to families of anchor babies. No work, no handouts, for families of anchor babies.

Agreed.

Someone wake up our head-in-the-sand-congress, please.

Of course, NRO’s heavy hitters have yet another 3 day weekend, so they reach out to moderate guest writers to say what the heavy hitters don’t have the guts to say. Where’s Ponnuru, Lowry, and Goldberg, on a day when a constitutional crisis is happening right before our very eyes? They are probably huddling with their GOP Congress bosses to craft the message. Where’s Romney? Aren’t we always being told how great he is with rapid responses?

The statements from the Evangelical Immigration Table are about mercy, fairness, and compassion only for people who have broken immigration laws and show no concern at all for the unemployed Americans who are victimized by illegal immigration.

It appears that the Evangelical Immigration Table is calling for sacrifice to show mercy to illegal aliens. But this is a perversion of the evangelical concept of sacrifice because they want the poor, unemployed, and poorly paid citizens of America to make the sacrifice so they can brag about the mercy they are showing those who have illegally taken U.S. jobs.

The Bible calls for concern for the “least of these,” not for political policy that harms the least of these.

“I am starting to think if people do not agree with a law, just say the hell with it and go one’s own way.”

The problem is, without the rule of law, it comes down to might makes right. The government has the might to ignore the laws, but the people do not. We should have the might, but we never will unless there is a mass concensus to engage in this type of civil disobedience. In other words, a lot of us need to man up and put our life, liberty, and livelihood on the line, or the few that try it will be senseless martyrs.

You know, it might be nice if Focus on the Family focused on the family, and kept their mouths shut on subjects they don’t seem to know anything about.

Anything that is not 100% deportation of all Illegal Aliens is Amnesty.

What I have learned about this issue...anyone who starts deviating from “100% deportation” supports Amnesty.

No more “I am against Illegal Alien Amnesty, BUT...” Nope that is Amnesty

A simpler and better solution is simply to get rid of birthright citizenship for children with no citizen parents. Other countries don’t have this policy, and it only causes problems for us. The only rationalization for it is to undermine our immigration laws and create a situation where illegal immigration is a never-ending problem that amnesty advocates can take advantage of.

Definitely better, but there’s that ridiculous SCOTUS decision. We may end up having to pass a new amendment. That is the end goal though.
