WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration will stop deporting and begin granting work permits to younger illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have since led law-abiding lives. The election-year initiative addresses a top priority of an influential Latino electorate that has been vocal in its opposition to administration immigration policies and a record number of deportations last year.
The policy change, announced Friday by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, will affect as many as 800,000 immigrants who have lived in fear of deportation. It bypasses Congress and partially achieves the goals of the so-called DREAM Act, a long-sought but never enacted plan to establish a path toward citizenship for young people who came to the United States illegally but who attend college or have served in the military.
The move comes in an election year in which the Hispanic vote could be critical in tossup states like Colorado, Nevada and Florida that could go either Republican or Democratic. While President Barack Obama enjoys support from a majority of Hispanic voters, Latino enthusiasm for the president has been tempered by the slow economic recovery, his inability to win congressional support for a broad overhaul of immigration laws and by his administration's aggressive deportation policy.
Activists opposing his deportation policies last week mounted a hunger strike at an Obama campaign office in Denver, and other protests were planned for this weekend.
Obama plans to address the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials' annual conference next week in Florida. Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney is scheduled to speak to the group on Thursday.

I've actually heard illegals say, "Well, I HAD to come in illegally. You Americans make it too hard to come in legally." It's like saying, "I HAD to break into your house to rob you. It's your fault. You drove me to it by having that lock on your door."

800,000 my @$$! It would be “cruel” to deport their “parents” who brought them here against their will. And then there are those uncles, aunts and cousins who want to be here to watch them “graduate” or take their big G.E.D. test. Of course, we can’t leave out their poor, grandparents still “back home” who haven’t seen them in years and “miss them very much”. What a coup! The communist ‘RAT party is going to be busy registering a whole new crop of millions of ‘RAT voters requiring freebies paid for by the American taxpayers. Americans are the big losers here. Motor Voter was a knife in the back of America. It is required that anyone getting a license, food stamps or free medical assistance be asked if they want to register to vote. EVERY TIME THEY APPLY! What do they expect the illegals to say, “NO?” Motor voter needs to be repealed.
It always has been easier for them to gain citizenship. The US military have recruited from other countries.
However, this should not work for illegal aliens. I don't see how or by them lying on their service entry application.
There's always a background check that should have disqualified illegals from US military service.
Which brings up another badboy Obama issue. A patriotic, natural born citizen would always protect the sovereignty of his country. Not with Obama though, in his own words, he stated in his Berlin, Germany speech, he is a "world citizen" among many others he has held or still holds.
I sense a ton of state lawsuits are going to hit Obama next week.

I have thought the same thing. A citizen who loves the nation would never do this even if his political advisers told him it was the only way to win reelection.

I was very polite, and asked for permission to record my call...I was put on the line with a supervisor, who asked why, and told them for personal reasons. I was denied, then the female supervisor on the line refused to identify themselves even by first name, and I made my polite comment. At this point the telephone connection was disconnected followed by a dial tone.
I’m on hold right now too. I did get through at the second number and they sent me to this infernal hold number. no way I’m hanging up. I want to blast someone’s ears with my displeasure.

What are the rules after that? Do those with “work permits” get those fancy new ID numbers that aren’t really citizen social security numbers, yet enable them to file for tax refunds? I finally did get through. A nice woman asked me for my comments and I told her that the president is not above our Constitution or Congress and that what he did is illegal and he needs to be impeached. She said, “thank you”, and sighed. I hope to heck they’re getting hammered with calls. From her tone, I think the White Hut is having a bad day, and WELL DESERVED.

Those who received amnesty have been a drain on the economy. Those who were granted amnesty become bolder in their demands, welfare, accomodations, etc.
Spain also went the ‘green job’ route and that failed.
If he can’t learn from a recent failure from another country, then his agenda cannot be motivated to achieve success.
