You make the same mistake as the article. I might think it would be good if I could grow pot in my backyard, but that doesn’t mean I think I should not get arrested if I grow pot in my backyard.

I think we should change the law regarding the treatment of children of illegals. I don’t think we should do it the way Hatch wanted to, I didn’t support the DREAM act as it was proposed, and I certainly don’t support Obama acting unconstitutionally.

I do think that it is stupid to have a law that requires us to spend time and money deporting these kids. I would like to see us deport the illegals that come here for no reason other than to make money to send back to their homelands, who could care less about our country and our culture, and would skirt the laws and our tax system and seek to change us into something more like their own hellholes.

But the children we are talking about don’t generally fall into that category. These are kids who, for whatever reason, we decided to allow to live here in our country, to teach at our schools, to integrate into our society. And then, when they turn 18, we then expect to catch them, try them, and deport them back to a place that is not their home.

Imagine if tomorrow you were told that your parents were here illegally, and that you were going to be sent to Bolivia. I’m sure this isn’t reality, but imagine how you might integrate yourself into Bolivia, to earn a living, to find a spouse, have children, raise a family, in a land where you know nobody, speak none of the language, have no idea of the culture.

It’s not OUR fault these kids are in this situation. But they aren’t exactly criminals either; as minors, they had little choice in where they lived, they couldn’t leave their parents and go home. They couldn’t turn their parents in — the government wouldn’t do anything anyway — they let the kids and their parents stay unless they commit a crime, and they give the kids free education.

SO they grow up in our culture, with american friends, speaking our language, wearing our clothes, going to our churches and our schools, maybe even getting jobs in our stores although that is a bit problematic for them. Then they turn adult.

As adults, they have a right to apply for a student visa. However, under current law, it takes a lot of hoop-jumping to get one if they are located in the country already. It would be easy if they just went “home”, except they have no home in their “home country”.

If they did, and they went home, they’d most likely get student visas, because we don’t restrict them much. Then, if they did well and graduated, they would likely qualify for H-1B visas, if they were in any fields we accept for that; they might even get green cards outright, since they would be precisely the kind of person we would WANT to let immigrate into our country — people who respect and appreciate America, speak our language, and have a solid education.

And in fact, we rarely deport these kids. What Obama is doing in reality is almost nothing — he’s trying to take political credit for the practical reality. Unfortunately, doing so is both illegal and uncosntitutional; that we don’t enforce every law to the maximum extent possible is a fact of life without unlimited budgets; but you can’t just announce that you are ignoring hte law.

But just because Obama is breaking the law doesn’t mean we shouldn’t discuss a way to handle this situation that makes more sense.

I know there are arguments that changing this law might encourage more illegals. I doubt a family with a 2-year-old is coming here illegally simply because they think 16 years later their kid could get a green card. Worse, I don’t like laws that stop something that makes sense because it might encourage bad behavior. Let’s enforce our actual laws against illegals. Let’s send these people home when they get here with their 2-year-old.

BTW, in a majority of these cases, the parents were not illegal when they came. They were here on their own student visa, or a work visa. They lived here legally, and at some point became illegal, usually because they either couldn’t renew their visa, or a legal change scared them into worrying that if they re-applied, they might get rejected and thrown out. Keep in the shadows, and don’t get caught.

So yes, the children are now illegal, because the parents are illegal, but nobody started that way, and in a world with 12 million illegals, I think the last thing we need to worry about is the americanized children of parents who have outlasted their visas.

BTW, I am totally opposed to granting anything to the FAMILIES of these children. That’s part of the problem with the proposed dream act, once the kids have their green card, they can then get their parents in legally. Let’s make each kid stand on their own, and not do this chain migration crap.

Also, when they finish college, if they don’t have a marketable skill, deport them.

I remember how many of us here fought the Dream ACT every time they tried to pass it. Now Obama basically passes the Dream act by decree. This is crushing

Are there any groups that can organize mass demonstrations across the country? We need one show of testosterone before we sink into a USSR.

Ann Barnhardt has been saying for some time that the 'rule of law' is dead.

She's right.

This is the summer that grass roots will grow in the gop. In fact, let us gather at Washington’s church in Valley Forge someday and gather acorns and pray, and take those acorns and plant them around the world.

For me, I just don’t see the point of taking a child who just graduated high school, speaks nothing but english, has lived nowhere but america their entire lives, and is a functioning, productive member of our society, and throwing them back into a country they’ve never really lived in, whose language they don’t know, leaving them destitute and unable to have a life of any kind.

What crock. what an idealized fantasy you paint. The public schools are indoctrinating these people to hate and despise everything about America. Very few are adding anything of value to our Republic. There sole purpose here is to transform our Republic into a Socialist sewer

Stop spouting thing idealized garbage that has basis in reality.

Sure, we CAN do it — but why would we want to do it?

We can't do it and we wont do it. They will continue to flood into our Republic and destroy it -- with glee. Around our area the illegals are greatly contributing to the increase in crime. Many have been caught removing copper from houses being built.

One was scene taking a 900$ pole saw from my neighbors tree service truck. I have a relative on the local police force and he says the crime by illegals is rampant.

The illegals are not here because they love the land of opportunity. No they are here to get what they want by any means.

We are being invaded by third worlders who have a hatred for American culture. They refuse to assimilate.

I hope we are around on Free Republic in 2022. I am certain we will all be complaining if only we acted stronger to stop the invasion....

The cold reality is our Republic is being destroyed from within by the left and GOP-e.

Imagine if tomorrow you were told that your parents were here illegally, and that you were going to be sent to Bolivia.

Cry me a river. you write this drivel as though these people are angels.

Have you ever had to live around a large group of illegals? I have many friends who are contractors and when they work on houses they have to lock their trucks each time they go inside. If not some illegal will quickly try to steal something. I have many friends with dozens of stories of how job sites have changed because of illegals.

Any and all illegals and their offspring should be dumped across the border and forever not allowed to have citizenship or to visit our country.

Compassion is what will destroy us. Of course, nothing will be done and we will be morphed into a third world sewer. But not to worry, so many people with attitudes like yours will smugly say what did we do wrong, why do they still hate us after all we have done.

Do you think these other countries would allow illegals to do to their country what they are doing to ours? They rightfully are much tougher on illegals in their country.

I live in Prince William County, Virginia. We did have a sizable illegal population. My kids are in high school, and their middle school was majority-minority, with a sizable hispanic population, and a good number of illegals who of course we are required by law to educate.

We have the illegals hanging around the 7-11 waiting to get picked up for work.

But that’s not what we are talking about here. We are talking about kids who have been here virtually their whole lives, who by environment are as “american” as any kid can be coming out of our public school system.

I don’t think we should be giving them all a free pass, but there are a lot of them that would easily qualify for student visas and work permits, and would be welcome members of our society, if not for the fact that at the time they turn 18, their parents were not legally here, so they became illegal adults upon graduating high school.

You can deny that they exist, but it won’t make them dissappear. I know it’s easier to support simple solutions if you ignore reality, but that’s certainly not what I am doing.

You obviously know no Cubans. I’ve been married to one for 25 years, and have to listen to them constantly. They’re still pining after Reagan.

However, Mexicans are always going to support illegal Mexican immigration. Duh.

/didn’t mean to call you names. Your post made you sound like the usual Limbaugh-brainwashed FR geriatric. Apologies.

Rubio is a Cuban American. I did know some Cubans and they were all Republicans. They also supported illegals.

All hispanics I have ever met and talked too of any nationality have always supported hispanic illegals.

Yes Mexicans are the worst but all of them I know support their brethern first over America.

Older Cubans support Rubio because he’s Cuban; the younger ones, say my wife’s age and younger, see through him. They also don’t trust Romney. They universally loathe the Black Messiah.

We should note that all Cubans here in the U.S. are here legally, no matter how they got here. There are NO “illegal” Cubans because of the political asylum laws. That’s how my wife entered the country—the communists were going to kill my father-in-law, so he emigrated quick as he could. He then spent thousands and thousands of dollars and years of legal wrangling to naturalize the whole family—which is what Mexicans don’t want to do.

My own maternal grandparents followed the same path when they arrived from Sweden. And to note—my lily-white grandmother hated the U.S. I have no idea why.

Again, note—NO CUBANS ARE ILLEGALS because of the political asylum laws. They receive resident alien status the instant they physically touch US soil.

Learn the law. Reality versus television and talk radio is an amazing contrast!

Did I ever say anything about illegal Cubans? I did not. I know quite a bit about Cubans as I worked with several and they were all Republicans and hated Kennedy.

All the hispanics I meet now are pro-illegal. ALL OF THEM! Now I know there are some who do not support illegals but I haven’t met any. Since I have met large numbers of hispanics, it is easy to see that most do support illegals.
