Washington - On his first trip to D.C. since his recall victory, Gov. Scott Walker said he won't be shy about putting his growing political celebrity to use.
But Walker, derided by Democrats during the campaign as a traveling "right-wing rock star," said it's his state he'll be promoting, not himself.
"You got all this attention. My sense is, why not use it? Not for me as much as why not get out and tell the story about Wisconsin and maybe attract some companies to come and grow here?" Walker said in an interview.
Walker's two-day Washington swing featured an appearance with other governors at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a session with students at Marquette University's Les Aspin Center for Government and a sit-down with national journalists at a newsmaker breakfast held by The Christian Science Monitor.
There were no campaign events, but one headline Thursday - on the website of The Washington Post - described the trip as a "victory lap through Washington."
The Monitor breakfast is a D.C. tradition that started the year before Walker was born and has often served as a rite of passage for politicians stepping onto the national stage.
Walker said it was a chance to satisfy a flood of D.C. media requests.
Answering questions for an hour from The New York Times, the Washington Post, ABC, Politico and others, Walker said he thought his recall victory - and its national implications for the two parties and organized labor - has been misinterpreted by some people on both the right and left.
"There are people . . . on the left who say this has no impact, it's all about money, and I think that's completely wrong," Walker said.

I believe that this is the first time that I have seen Walker wear a brown, or tan, suit. I think it looks quite good on him. Also, does anyone know what the yellow rubber bracelet stands for?

Wisconsin: Scott Walker takes DC ping
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Note Walker’s endorsement of Ryan for VP.
“does anyone know what the yellow rubber bracelet stands for?”
Probably Lance Armstrong’s “Livestrong,” but if Lance’s drugging allegations prove to be real, he’d better take it off.
Eschewing the personal spotlight and leveraging a big electoral victory into prosperity for the state that elected him? What kind of politician is he? /s
THAT is what LEADERSHIP is, America!!
“Never let a spotlight go to waste”
That’s why we love him in Wisconsin!
And note how he is not taking sides in the upcoming Senatorial Primary. He could easily stick it to a couple of those candidates who have done him wrong in the past (major stabs in the back). But, he’s allowing the voters of Wisconsin to choose, and then he will back that choice to the hilt. Scott is classy all the way.
I don’t know if it makes a difference. I think the picture was taken before the Armstrong allegations. However, if the spokesman for an anti-cancer campaign is proven to be a fraud, does that mean that everyone is supposed to line up on the side of cancer and eschew the charity? I don’t think so.
IOW, I don’t think anyone will hold it against Scott for wearing the bracelet.
