You may recall that last week, the Blaze reported on a hitchhiker who was shot while writing his memoirs under the heavily ironic title, Kindness in America. At the time, the Blazes Madeleine Morgenstern wrote:
The Billings Gazette reported 39-year-old Raymond Dolin of West Virginia was sitting on the side of a highway waiting for a ride when a man drove up in a maroon pickup, shot him and drove away.
Valley County Sheriff Glen Meier told the newspaper Dolin is working on a book titled The Kindness of America.[...]
Authorities began a manhunt for the driver of the pickup, ultimately arresting 52-year-old Charles Lloyd Danielson III in connection with the shooting.
Well, in a twist worthy of M. Night Shyamalan, it turns out the whole thing was a lie. Gawker reported today that Dolin has come out with the admission that he actually shot himself and then made up the story about the drive-by shooting:

He shot himself so naturally it is the guns fault.

Follow-up to an earlier NAPL ping. I wonder if this will be in the book?

If only the cops hadn't fingered an innocent man. I'm sure it doesn't happen very often.

Regardless of what he says in the future, he did this to make it look like some ‘spiteful pickup-driving conservative’ did it, building street cred with liberals.
Liberalism is a mental disease with tragic results for all decent human beings. I feel for the man picked as the perp.

The case is still being investigated by the Valley County Sheriffs Office, and charges could still be brought against Ray Dolin. For what??!!??

The perp is not only a scumbag - he should be arrested for attempted subversion of the Constitution through fraud, specifically the 2nd Amendment.
What this guy tried to do is evil.

I normally don’t agree with lawsuits etc, but will make an exception here.
Sue him for a percentage of his future earnings then go out and pimp his book for him....if he gets 30% and you get 70% you just take him back to court and try to get the 30 from him. - or at least make him spend all his time and money in and around the courts.
Then kick his arse....

The moron’s confession does nothing to compensate poor Charles Lloyd Danielson III for the violence, humiliation, and lost time.
Let’s hope he gets himself a VERY good - and utterly vicious - lawyer.
Meanwhile, the moron should be “traveling” to a secure jail cell.
To: GrandJediMasterYoda
No, it’s his fault for carrying it. Everyone knows if you have a gun, you are the most likely person to be shot by it.

If only the cops hadn't fingered an innocent man. I'm sure it doesn't happen very often. Exactly why those who bear false witness ought to be immediately convicted of the crime they claimed was perpetrated against them, serve the maximum time/fines, and pay the true victim - the one who got caught as the police tried to arrest a "criminal".

The only question is ... will the victim in the pickup truck be able to sue for some of the book royalties? You know, when the book makes the “Best Sellers” list.
