STOCKTON - It can withstand AK-47 rounds from point-blank range. Fifty-caliber bullets will not penetrate its hull or puncture its run-flat tires. Ballistic glass more than an inch thick protects the occupants as they serve high-risk search warrants or handle hostage situations.
It is a modified Ford F-550 truck known as the Lenco BearCat G3, and it is the newest addition to the Stockton Police Department's motor pool.
Essentially paid for by selling items taken from drug dealers the past several years, the BearCat was formally introduced to the community Wednesday morning during a Stockton SWAT team training session. Team members have learned how to maneuver the truck, and they have familiarized themselves with its various crime-fighting amenities.
"There's literally no place on this thing where the manufacturers didn't think about the truck's ability to stop a round," said Lt. Eric Ingersoll, SWAT commander for Stockton police. "It's specifically set up for SWAT and tactical use."

“Rescue vehicle” my sweet aunt’s pa-toot. More like “Revenue Vehicle”.
Definitely needs more cup holders.
Wow, now if they encounter an 80 year old naked lady swinging a stick, they won’t have to taser her.
>Fifty-caliber bullets will not penetrate its hull
Oh, I believe a mono metal tungsten sabat would cause some havoc upon it...
I'm guessing they'll have to step-up the confiscations to keep that thing fueled-up and maintained.
I'm a little confused about the quote above, how do they raise money by confiscating narcotics? Hmmmm?
We need cops, Stockton is bad, and I have to allow that’s impressive gear:
But with budget prospects being what they are, this shows a failure in leadership —we need to fire LOTS of people at the top.
This extravagance shows bad judgement —people have to lose badges.
The solution is to stop the flood of PEOPLE who are making Stockton famously bad.
They open the floodgates, then shriek about their “emergency needs”. Hey, sorry, but quit INDUCING the emergency.
Maybe not the hull, but probably the plexiglass.
Anyway you put a couple gallons of thermite on the hood and let it burn and it ain’t going anywhere.
The city of Stockton is pretty much bankrupt. This vehicle might come in handy some day soon when the SHTF.
I’ll bet I can disable it with a bucket of paint or a tarp, If I could only get close enough, or above it.
Anyplace you find a lot of narcotics, you will usually find a lot of ca$h as well.
Civil Forfeiture was intended to give cops “skin in the game” —to INCENTIVIZE enforcement.
And ya know what? That is what it DID —lots of innocent no-knock break in’s, with some really spectacular cases of PROPERTY clearly being targeted —one poor guy who had NO criminal history (but plenty of beach property) was arguably murdered, some years ago.
Oh! And his property was taken.
In other words, the most prominent perps of home invasion were —ARE— cops.
Note —I have abused drugs and I don’t (knowingly) keep friends who do.
Except for the very visible front tie rod that once severed,or damaged could cause
the invincible juggernaut to be unstearable. Have a nice day.
Grew up in Stockton in the 70’s and 80’s, and it has become such an armpit that it definitely needs a heavy hand.
always depends on shape, size and speed of said .50 cal round. I believe momma deuce hammering away at the windshield might get them blinking real rapid like.
I know, but the way they phrased it in the article was humorous.
Keene, New Hampshire, police bought one of these with a gov’t grant. They were so excited that they were getting a ‘tank’. Keene is a little town in rural farmland and not much more.
We’re in a police state, no doubt.
