STOCKTON - It can withstand AK-47 rounds from point-blank range. Fifty-caliber bullets will not penetrate its hull or puncture its run-flat tires. Ballistic glass more than an inch thick protects the occupants as they serve high-risk search warrants or handle hostage situations.

It is a modified Ford F-550 truck known as the Lenco BearCat G3, and it is the newest addition to the Stockton Police Department's motor pool.

Essentially paid for by selling items taken from drug dealers the past several years, the BearCat was formally introduced to the community Wednesday morning during a Stockton SWAT team training session. Team members have learned how to maneuver the truck, and they have familiarized themselves with its various crime-fighting amenities.

"There's literally no place on this thing where the manufacturers didn't think about the truck's ability to stop a round," said Lt. Eric Ingersoll, SWAT commander for Stockton police. "It's specifically set up for SWAT and tactical use."

The city not too long ago closed down a substation in the North part of town due to lack of funds. I don’t know if their priorities are quite....right.

“Oh! And his property was taken.”

How did they take the property when he was the victim? The property should have gone to the estate... or did he not have a will?

We really need an ‘Edit Post’ button!

An Edit button would cover a multitude of sins... :)

Put it in reverse, mash the pedal, and hope the shooter misses?

Said on the dash top speed is 60 mph on paved roads, 15 on dirt, and rolls over at 30+degrees.

Probably should not drive it too close to a ditch?

On another note, did I not hear just last week that Stockton is fixing to declare bankrupcy?

maybe they could pawn off the ride and use the proceeds to fund the pensions for the retired city cops?

Why do the police need an Armored Personnel Carrier?

Why do we need a SWAT team to arrest someone for failing to pay child support or a warrant from parking tickets?

What’s the justification for the police to look more and more like the military?

Are the rates of people shooting at police officers that much higher than in previous decades?

Is there suddenly an increase in people using high caliber weapons against the police?

(The most common guns used in crimes are cheap .25’s and 380’s and .38’s, not M4’s, Barret 50’s and RPG’s)

Do the Police really fear us that much?

A cyanide bomb used to kill gophers will deal with the occupants. Lighting up 5 gallons of gasoline underneath will make it incomfortably hot inside. Some black Krylon paint on the windshield will render the visibility to zero making it unsafe to drive. Under $10 in materials.

Why do the police need an Armored Personnel Carrier?

Because the bad guys are shooting at them with big guns.

Why do we need a SWAT team to arrest someone for failing to pay child support or a warrant from parking tickets?

We don't use a SWAT team for those purposes, but of course you know that.

What’s the justification for the police to look more and more like the military?

Do the police need to conform to some standard dress code? Why do you care what they look like?

Are the rates of people shooting at police officers that much higher than in previous decades?

YES! These stories are carried in the news.

Yavapai and Maricopa County Sheriffs have confirmed that the killing of a New Hampshire couple near Sedona and a Maricopa Sheriff's deputy at Anthem were killed by the same weapon, believed fired by 30-year-old Drew Ryan Maras.

When Maricopa deputy William Coleman tapped on the window of the van outside an Anthem strip mall, Maras opened the door and fired 29 rounds at the officers, two of those rounds striking Coleman early Sunday morning.

Another deputy returned his gunfire killing Maras. An AR-15 style rifle was recovered from the scene in Anthem.

And that answers your next question.

Is there suddenly an increase in people using high caliber weapons against the police?

Why would you use the word "suddenly" to describe a trend that's been going on for many years?

(The most common guns used in crimes are cheap .25’s and 380’s and .38’s, not M4’s, Barret 50’s and RPG’s)

Maybe that's true where you live, but not here. Around here they mostly use 9mm semiautomatic pistols. Does the name Gabrielle Giffords strike a familiar note?

Do the Police really fear us that much?

This sounds like a standard question from the Brady Handgun Campaign. "What are you so afraid of that you feel the need to carry a GUN with you?" The police are not afraid of you or any other law abiding citizen. But they deserve to be protected from the bad guys with big guns who keep shooting at them. They will use this vehicle to drive TOWARD the scene of danger while everyone else is running AWAY, screaming in fear. And if they use it to rescue your tender hide from the bad guys with big guns who are trying to do you harm, then you will be damn glad they bought it.

Brought you by...”The Neverending War on Drugs/Citizens/Constitution.”

Folks, it is not going to get better. Thousands of regular line police are being trained in urban infantry tactics that were NOT taught in the police academy.

“Do the Police really fear us that much?”

I don’t think it is as much about fearing the population as CONTROLLING the population. If Stockton has this, what does DHS have for us? Armed drones, in “America”? Really? No, we are headed toward full blown communism. IMHO

Stockton is about to declare bankruptcy, and the roid boys are buying new toys. The properly equipped people will squash your Nazimobile like a bug when the time comes.

“Negotiations between Stockton, California, and its creditors won’t yield enough savings to keep it from becoming the largest city to seek bankruptcy protection, a lawyer for an employee union said.”

Douse it with a few dollar’s worth of ammonia-based cleaner and see how long they will stay inside of it. Extra points if you can introduce it directly in or on the ventilation openings.
