Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson was an interesting character in the 2012 Republican Primaries that didnt get the attention he deserved. I was never a Johnson devotee by any means, but his fiscal record was impressive and his libertarian leanings were worth giving a fair shake in the process. Now Johnson is running as the Libertarian Party candidate for President with hopes of playing spoiler, and as RealClearPolitics reports, hes doing it with the help of Roger Stone, a rather interesting but mostly mythical operative legend:
He doesnt have a vast campaign account, as the two major-party candidates do, but he does have Roger Stone, a veteran of Republican presidential campaigns who says hes sick of the party and is now consulting for Johnson. Stone believes that with the rise of social media, there are ways to break through the campaign din, and hes cooking up some provocative stunts that will get Johnson attention in the months ahead.
To Stone, the effort has nothing to do with being a spoiler in the election. Rather, he says, the Johnson campaign is all about waking up the electorate to the Libertarian movement.
I say mostly mythical because Stones resume and background is more myth than fact and a majority of his reputation comes from, well, himself. Stone is a rabid self-promoter who has managed to make himself up.
And I forgot the link...
Looking at just their records as Governor, Johnson appears to be more conservative than Romney.
Gary Johnson is awesome, but he’s not going to be President, at least not in this cycle. He really walked the walk as governor. He’s a bit of an odd ball, but he’s the kind of guy that would be fun to sit and chat for an hour.
Gary Johnson was good for New Mexico, considering that he had to work with corrupt Democrats in the Roundhouse and Senate. Ray Sanchez and Manny Arrogant were both New Mexico poster boys for term limits.
Gary has a few libertarian leanings that aren’t going to sit well with Big Government/Nanny RINO’s...
And let’s face it, neither is Romney. So this time I’m voting on principle for Johnson.
Uh, Johnson said Obama did not "go far enough" on endorsing gay marriage, saying the Federal government should impose it on the states. How exactly is that conservative OR libertarian?
He is an idiot.
He’s better on limited government, property rights, RKBA, religious freedom...
I’m more on the L4L.org side of things. If it’s human, killing it is murder. Even those libertarians who are technically pro-choice still want to see Row v Wade over turned.
So yeah.... That puts even Stone to the Right of Willard.
He’s a moron.
Stone? Possibly. This is the first I’ve heard of him. Gary? Not so much. He did good things for NM and has a far better record than Willard.
No, Johnson said that on the Daily Show last week.
Anyone who laughs it up with Jon Leibowitz ain't no freedom lover.
This is just another example of someone trying to promote their blog by attacking conservatives. Gov. Johnson and Roger Stone have done more for the movement than this wanabe blogger.
All signs point towards Romney as the next president... unless of course, a bunch of people vote for a third party. If our side stays strong, we’ll have a Senate majority and the White House.
The economy is tanking, the mood of the country is getting worse, and the states that went Republican in 2010 are almost all holding where they were. Anyone who says Romney can’t win are trying to talk themselves into it.
I hadn't see that...not too libertarian. I can understand a position of allowing it, but to promote federal activism is weak. Really weak.
