Box Office Flops For Tom Cruise’s ‘Rock Of Ages’
Deadline ^ | 6/15/12 | NIKKI FINKE

-snip-

New Line/Warner Bros’ Rock Of Ages (3,470 theaters) is falling to earth with a thud. Which Hollywood expected because the pic had been tracking poorly for weeks (and even went down at one point week to week). The studio felt the 1980s period piece was a hard sell to younger moviegoers. I suspect the problem was casting. Russell Brand has been repellant to moviegoers, while Tom Cruise as iconic rocker proved just too incredulous for audiences.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol was great, one of the best movies of 2011.

“alec baldwin is enough to keep me away.”

I saw the Hunt for Red October. Loved it. Then Baldwin decided to become relevant on the political scene. No more Baldwin movies.

Figured I would give it another shot. Saw “The Departed.” It was excellent. Then Matt Damon opened his mouth.

Can’t these idiots just shut up and sing?

I knew this movie would be horrible when I saw the trailer recently before seeing “Snow White and The Huntsman”.

It’s really obvious just by seeing the trailer, that the only way I’d consider seeing Rock of Ages is if admission was free and they provided an airline barf bag.

That being said,,,I did like Snow White and The Huntsman and I can recommend it to fellow FReepers. My husband also liked the movie, but probably not quite as much as I did. The Evil Queen character was quite good. Too intense for little kids, but really good movie for 15 and uppers.

L. Ron Hubbard says "See this movie."

It'll make a good double-feature with Battlefield Earth.

He was a complete failure in the remake of War of the worlds as well. Probably the worst Sci-Fi Movie in recent times.

Cruise is tall enough to play an ompa lompa in WIlly wonka.

He is to short to be an action star and to much of a pretty boy to be a tough guy.

A bad title can be disastrous.

Terriers was great, though I think they phoned in the last 4 episodes because they knew their fate.

Cinderella Man was a poor title for a great movie. Box office suffered.

John Carter needed two more (very obvious) words in its title. Box office suffered.

Imagine if Star Wars was titled "Luke Skywalker" instead.

I find it incredible that this “veteran journalist” (according to wikipedia) doesn’t know the meaning of incredulous.

We all lived through the “Hair Bands” and we really don’t care to go through it all again.

I thought War of the Worlds was pretty good.

Great special effects, scary scenes, Cruise was believable in the role and did a good job.

Then again, I liked Battlefield Earth too, wish they would do a "Mission Earth " movie.

When GW Bush was in the White House, Hollyweird was constantly making movies against “the war”.

It isn’t hip to protest Obama. But they continue to make bad films, anyway.
