Our daughter graduated with a BS in Biology this morning from the University of California at Santa Cruz. I did not see a single "Obama 2012" bumper sticker today -- not one!
We drove about 40 miles from home to the campus and saw many hundreds or thousands of cars on Highways 85, 17, and 1; the local Santa Cruz streets; throughout campus; in the campus parking structure; and in the parking lots on campus. We walked quite a distance on campus and didn't spot a single Obama sign on any buildings, bus shelters, housing units, dorms, or student bulletin boards. It was stunning.
Not only that, we saw only one crusty and faded Obama 2008 bumper sticker as well -- they've all been scraped off.
There's probably no hope of capturing California, but this sure is an encouraging sign. Huzzah!

That’s good news. The last time I was in Santa Cruz it seemed to be a totally left-wing town.
If even the denizens of the People’s Republic of Santa Cruz aren’t for him, he’s really in deep doo doo.
Interesting! I’ve seen maybe a dozen or so in Silicon Valley.
Forgot to mention - I haven’t seen any Obama 2012 bumper stickers in the Morgan Hill/Gilroy area either. There are a lot fewer Obama 2008 stickers than there were a few years ago as well.

Sadly, that's not our experience. I still see plenty. < |:(~
The remarks tonight on yahoo regarding the illegal dream act nonsense are startling — you can’t find ONE positive comment for him. If they make one, they get so many thumbs down they have to pull them.
People are mad. They’re out of work, or they know people struggline and out of work, and then they see this dumbo coming in and pulling this political stunt. They are not fooled, perhaps, this time.
I still don’t have high expectations, but the tide could be starting to turn.
I have seen dozen of Obama 2012 in Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Los Altos.
I saw one here in NW Arkansas not long ago. Only one so far.
I’ve seen four or five polls on the illegal dream act from CBS in LA to the WSJ to some small local TV stations. They are all running 80% against! He stepped in it big time...again.
Still is. I've always called Santa Cruz, "The last bastion of hippiedom." Notice, they've still got the VW bugs and vans and longhairs riding bicycles everywhere. I guess Obama's so bad, even the hippies don't like him anymore.
I see a lot of them up here in the Portland area. Then again, this is where the people who are too kooky for California escape to.
Second of all, thanks for the encouraging news!
I just spent nearly 2 weeks in Fresno, CA, driving to and from the SF Airport. I didn’t see any Obama stickers either throughout our travels — not even old ones. I saw Ron Paul placards everywhere.
What I did see were hundreds of people in the Central Valley begging and pushing shopping carts full of junk around on the streets. People were begging at every stop light and in every median. People were posted at all of the driveways to Home Depot. Signs ranged from “Help with funeral” to “My mother and I are just trying to make it”. It’s very sad.
Thanks!
Obama is undoubtedly not left-wing enough for them.
The Bay Area still a Socialist stronghold, regrettably.
Where in Portland? I haven’t seen even one so far. My wife works at the MAC and the number of Obama 2008 stickers we saw there was disgusting. So far though the 2012 variety seems to be pretty rare.
If he wins this time I think it’ll take a lot of work by his pet counting firm in Spain to come up with enough votes.
LOL...now I must admit that hadn’t occurred to me. Thanks for the insight.
I have to add that every time someone discovered that we were there from Wisconsin, we became celebrities. Everone wanted to know all about Scott Walker. Everyone wanted us to loan Scott to CA. We politely declined because Scott’s work is not finished in WI yet. We still need him.
I’m serious. I know of at least one party in a local Fresno watering hole where they were cheering and toasting Scott’s victory on June 5.
I see some cars here with the old 2008 stickers but they do not have new ones on them.
The bloom is off the rose so to speak!
I still see cars with Kerry stickers on them. :)
I’ve yet to see a SINGLE Obama 2012 bumper sticker. On the other hand, I also have yet to see a single Romney bumper sticker. Two weeks ago, I made a trip across three states (LA,TX,MS), and was keeping an eye out for any examples. None. Nada. Not even old Obama stickers. It was almost bizarre, considering all the miles I traveled. I did see two TP “Don’t Tread on Me” stickers, though.
Personally, I avoided bumper-stickers all my life. Never cared for them, and being in a Dem-voting county didn’t help, worrying they might lead to my car being keyed. But, in Jan/Feb 2009, I did put a “Sarah!” sticker on, and it has remained there ever since. If any PDS nutjob wants to start anything, I’m always ready; I keep a loaded revolver and shotgun in my car with me at all times.
Well, I see plenty here in Nashville, including a big 2012 Obama on the Prius I parked next to at the YMCA this morning. And I have only seen one Romney sticker in the wild so far. Of course, this being the Red State of Tennessee (thanks be to God) all these Obamaites are wasting their time, money, and bumper space. TN will deliver all its electoral votes to the GOP in November; it will not even be close. Still, it is annoying to see all this Obama crap on display.
I see them from time to time when I visit the SF East Bay area. Nearly always they are on cars driven by White senior citizens. Sigh. What a bunch of nutballs.
I guess they took four years to finally become transparent.
LOL...zing!
I see a few Obama 2012 bumper stickers around here in Vermont, but nowhere near as many as you saw last time around. His campaign is going full blast, but doesn’t seem to be taking hold. But it’s still a bit early in the year, maybe.
Congratulations. But sadly here in l.a. I see new Obama 2012 stickers every day. :(
I see Obama stickers daily, but I have yet to see my first Romney sticker.
Saw my first Romney sticker today, though! That was over in Lincoln City.
I too am seeing fewer Obama bumper stickers this time around. As for stickers for Romney - or any other Republican for that matter - I see very few. But I think there is a very practical reason for that. I don't want my car to be vandalized by rabid Obama supporters.
We drove through your area a couple weekends back for a wedding, going from Portland to McMinnville through Newberg, then back to Portland through Hillsboro and Beaverton. There were lots...far more than I see in Silicon Valley and over in Santa Cruz.
I’m seeing almost none in my part of Colorado either, namely Boulder County. Admittedly, I don’t go into that bastion of Communism, The City of Boulder, that often, but still ...
I live in a pretty liberal area. I see some, but it is not common. 4 years ago, it was Obama central. The level of excitement is very low this time. The base will probably show up, but only at about a 90% clip. Independents are not. The dude is toast, baring a massive economic turnaround (not at all likely), or a foreign issue that is a big win.
The bumper stickers cost money and with the price of marijuana and cocaine going up and the state of the economy in California, these hippies can’t afford to buy bumper stickers.
They’ll vote for Obama.
Several times.
So will their Gratefully Dead friends.
I was at a conservative forum last week, in Seaside. This forum was hosted by Dr. Jack Wheeler of “To The Point News” and we even had Dana Rohrbacher with us.
I thought it funny to count 7 Obama 2012 stickers on vehicles just outside the front door of the hotel.
Obots are everywhere....
I just spent a few days in San Jose and drove into San Francisco Sunday morning. Saw very few Zero stickers — maybe they were all on cars behind mine. I hope they saw my No Socialism window sticker!
That is kind of a surprise. I was in Santa Cruz alomst a few weeks ago and I didn’t really see any Obama 2012 stickers. I have seen a few here in Colorado and about all of the folks that have them are fat ugly women or old folks.
I cautioned our son to be careful about the left wingers, and he told me not to worry... and then he tells me about the firebombing of the biology lab. (He's in medical research.)
The aged hippies are all still there in the tie dyed shirts and the flower power VWs.
The local Catholic Church was seriously damaged by vandals just a couple of months ago (probably in response to Obama’s attack on religious freedom.)
I am familiar with Atlanta as I have lived here all my life, except when I attended school at UGA.
My neighborhood is infested with Emory faculty types and CDC bureaucrats.
So, I found your comment about Emory highly amusing.
My son put a bumper sticker on his car that has the Obama insignia, but is overlapped with the following: “LOL.”
I asked him if that was wise, and he said stupid people (i.e., Rats) will not get it and smart people won’t key his car. So far, he has only gotten thumbs up, and no keying.
Ridicule is the best way to drive a narcissist (Zero) even crazier.
Link please. Thanks!
The undergraduate commencements are by the different “Colleges” at UCSC. Unlike my undergrad days at Missouri where I was in the “College of Engineering,” at UCSC a “college” means a motley collection of kids in different academic disciplines. So at today’s commencement, we had mostly wacko liberal arts kooks (film, digital media, women’s studies, etc) mixed in with very few hard sciences grads like my daughter. I think there was one other person in Biology. It was a real shame because it blends people with their heads screwed on straight with the lunatics...and the lunatics dominated 50:1. Fortunately, my daughter didn’t get polluted by the nuts.
I remember my daughter doing one paper that refuted the “science” of global warming. She got punished by her teacher on her grade, but about half the class congratulated her for her stand and secretly admitted to her that they agreed with her!
I hadn’t heard about the damage to the Catholic Church in SC...very sad.
I was in downtown today and didn’t see any, but I did see NIKE sporting a pro-perversion ad, so we walked out of the store.
