Romney won't say he'll overturn immigration order

BRUNSWICK, Ohio (AP) — Mitt Romney is refusing to say that he would overturn President Barack Obama's new policy allowing some young illegal immigrants to stay in the United States.

The Republican presidential candidate tells CBS” ”Face the Nation” that if he’s president, Obama’s executive order “would be overtaken by events … by virtue of my putting in place a long-term solution.”

Romney was asked three times in the interview if he would overturn Obama’s order, but he didn’t directly answer the question. Instead, he said would work to pass a law to help those young people who were “brought in by their parents through no fault of their own.” Romney said he doesn’t know why Obama “feels stop-gap measures are the right way to go.”

The candidate’s comments represent a further softening of his rhetoric on immigration since the GOP primary campaign ended.

Obama’s looking better and better - as long as he’s restrained by GOP majorities in both houses.

You are a delusional fool.

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." The congress legislates, the president as chief law enforcement officer implements. Obama has ignored his oath. If Romney is just more of the same--if he isn't prepared to stand up for our country, for you and me and our families--why should we stand up for him?

If the order is unconstitutional, why won’t Romney overturn it?

Because Romney is clever enough to avoid these "gotcha" questions that trip up Republican candidates every single time. It's driving the media and Axelrod crazy.

He's leading and gaining in the polls because his message is focused on jobs and the economy, not every Freepers' pet cause.

Next on the Agenda, we will have Napolitano ordereing the military to the borders, to build Cantina's for the hungry and thirsty "Immigrants" in the desert areas, and driving Military busses to shuttle Illegals who want "Los Freebies" into the good ol' USA, to avoid the rigorous terrain and inconvienience of sneaking across the Border, at night....

Sometimes you don't touch a hot potato until it is cold...otherwise you'll get burned.

0bama knew exactly what he was doing and those of you looking for a strong Romney response are falling for the 0bama trap. We don't want to give 0bama his “crisis.”

I want Eric Holder out of there, as well as the czars. I also do not want to see four years more of SCOTUS picks from Obama.

I’m not a Romney fan, but at least he’ll fire Holder.

I don’t like it, but Romney is staying on message. And he’s staying out of a quagmire. He figures the people who are upset about this will be upset at Obama for it, and he’ll just chase hispanic votes to Obama by complaining.

Having said all that, I still don’t like it. However, I dislike Obama far less.

You actually have a point, in a twisted way. While I cannot subscribe to the theory that one more second of Obama is tolerable, I do know what you mean about a turncoat Republican in office.

Wind back to the late 1990's. The so-called "assault weapons" ban in New York could not get passed, because the Republicans in one of the houses, I forget which, stymied every effort by the then-Democrat governor to get it enacted.

Enter George Pataki. He gets handily elected, in no small part due to the efforts of a group called "Sportsmen For Pataki". They were a pro-gun PAC.

Pataki assumes office, then IMMEDIATELY works to get the "assault weapons" ban passed, leaning on fellow Republicans as only a member of a party can do. It passes.

Pataki accomplished, quickly, what Mario Cuomo could not, and it was one of the many factors causing me to flee the state.

The point is, an enemy inside the gate is much more dangerous than a known enemy outside the gate.

"to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States"

I am sure Democrats rely on the "to the best of my ability" part to justify not enforcing "inconvienient", pesky Constituitonal protections.....

A 100,000 old land mines along the border would be a long-term solution. Then start the mass deportation process.

It makes more sense on the gubernatorial level. The reason is that in most states, the Attorney General is elected. In some states like mine, judges are elected, although appointed at times for partial terms.

Ginberg, Scalia, Breyer, and Kennedy are old. There's a good chance two, if not all of them will be appointed by the next POTUS. Eric Holder will be back if Obama wins, as will his cabinet.

There's also Harry Reid still controlling the Senate.

Neither party is going to do anything except look the other way when it comes to illegal immigration. There's too much money to be made and passed around by exploiting cheap foreign labor. Every civilization in history has exploited this fact, either through slavery, conquest, or colonization. Every civilization that has went down this road has eventually disappeared.
