Woman claims Southwest wouldn't let her board plane because of her cleavage: report

Southwest Airlines was forced to apologize to a woman who was told she couldn't board her flight because her cleavage was "inappropriate."

Jezebel reports that the woman, Avital — she only gave her first name — was boarding a 6 a.m. flight from Las Vegas to New York on June 5 when a ticket agent remarked that she couldn't fly unless she covered her breasts.

Clad in a comfy cotton dress, a baggy flannel shirt and bright scarf, Avital ignored the warning and marched aboard anyway.

...

Avital slammed the Southwest for "slut shaming," and said a man on her flight had on a provocative piece of clothing, but wasn't hassled.

I’ve seen more than that on Southwest flights.

Hot pants! Bring ‘em back (except on male flight attendants; put burkas on those ‘guys’).

I was boarding a SW flight this morning and there was an attractive, heavily endowed woman with an extremely short dress that makes the woman on this thread look very covered up.

Sitting down in the waiting area required her I-pad folder cover being lapped over her knees to prevent a very excited waiting area.

The range of dress or undress for women on air flights runs to both ends of the extreme. Flying all the time I run across some very comical stuff. Evening gowns, cocktail dresses, pajamas (or what passes in some homes for such) to hooker wear. Shorts that are shorter than some swimwear, bare midriffs, muffin tops, feathered hair, to burquas.

Boobs aside. I love her fashion sense!

I’m a little suspicious of a story where we, handily, have on-the-spot photos?

Here’s the problem. If Avital applied and they were still wearing hot pants, the lawyers would force them to hire her and let her wear hotpants on her, uh, “widebody” airframe.

OH for those 1960s and ‘70s airline advertisements! Remember the “Air Strip”?

Ok, the ‘70s weren’t all bad. Funny that this was in the heyday of feminism.

The cleavage issue was merely a convenient excuse.

In reality, Southwest wouldn't let her board because the person in question could be a career guest on "What Not to Wear." Clinton and Stacy would be cracking wise about this person's wardrobe well into the 22nd century.

"We enforce our fashion guidelines vigorously," a spokesperson for Southwest Airlines said. "Mr. Blackwell personally returned from the grave to critique and protest this fashion monstrosity. If this passenger's wardrobe choices can offend the deceased, just think what it might do to our other passengers, most of whom are still living."
