Face to Face, Obama Tries to Persuade Putin on Syria

President Obama met with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia at the Group of 20 summit in Los Cabos, Mexico, on Monday. By HELENE COOPER June 18, 2012

SAN JOSÉ DEL CABO, Mexico — President Obama and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir V. Putin, finally had their face-to-face meeting on Monday, as Mr. Obama pressed Mr. Putin to work with him to ease President Bashar al-Assad of Syria out of power, a move increasingly viewed by the West as the only way to end the bloodshed that has been under way there for more than a year.

“We have found many common points on this issue,” Mr. Putin said of Syria. But after two full hours together, Mr. Putin was still balking, appearing afterward with Mr. Obama before reporters in a grim tableau that seemed to bespeak the frustration on both sides. During the few minutes that it took their handlers to usher reporters out of the room after their prepared remarks, the two leaders remained seated, side by side, staring straight ahead, with none of the interaction or small talk that leaders usually engage in before the cameras. “We agreed that we need to see a cessation of the violence, that a political process has to be created to prevent civil war,” Mr. Obama said.

During the meeting, American officials said, Mr. Putin spent considerable time pointing to what the Russians view as failed examples of political transition in Egypt and Libya as well as their concern that the West does not have a credible plan for what would happen to Syria’s various battling factions and ethnic groups if Mr. Assad stepped down from power.

Evil Putin is not about to throw Syria to Al-Qaeda. What a bastard. Obama has to do something!

Iconic image of the whole abortion Obama's foreign policy has become: Steely-eyed KGB master Putin staring down the pusillanimous, small time gutless chicago neighborhood thug.

Yeah, I'll bet our pencil-necked, pipe-stem armed, faggot of a (p)resident scared the hell out of Putin.

Isn't it something how embarrassing this White House has become. I would love to know what Putin thinks when he looks into the eyes of this bad-breathed punk telling him what to do.

Was there ever any doubt? Putin is a trained KGB agent, an experienced field officer, a judoka, and he undoubtedly shares the typical Russian fascination with chess.

Obama is so far out of his league it’s pathetic.

Putting him into the same room with Putin was like putting a retarded pigeon in the same room with a cat.

Yeah, something tells me that Putin is impervious to Obama’s “charm”. In fact, I’ll bet he had a hard time keeping a straight face through the whole encounter.

Not just a retarded pigeon, but a retarded, Marxist pigeon. I wonder how many times Obama apologized to Putin for this or that?

The American people may not know who Obama is, but no doubt the KGB knows. They’d probably consider blackmail if he wasn’t already on their side.

You express my thoughts, or close enough for government work. All day I’ve had this horrible image in my mind of Obama bowing to a fellow Communist. I guess this is what the “other America” wanted when they elected this anti-American totalitarian.

Yeah well, you got a point there Mr. Putin.
Of course that assumes that we aren't dealing with the strategy of a blundering idiot, or someone who desires to see Islamic radicals take over as many government as possible.

That’s an insult to all small time Chicago thugs. They’d do their own dirty work. Obama would get someone in the community to do it for him.

Putin could make him fold a full house with just one glare.

Putty is no fool. It’s interesting that the “American officials” cited are not covering up for Obum, and that the NYSlimes is reporting on it.
