Allen West ‘Dejected’ By Mitt Romney’s Lack Of A Position On Immigration
Mediaite ^ | June 18th, 2012 | Noah Rothman

On Monday, Rep. Allen West (R-FL) said that he was “dejected” after Mitt Romney’s avoided taking a strong stand on President Barack Obama’s directive enacting portions of the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act. “It goes back to what my mother taught me, ‘a man must stand for something, or else he’ll fall for anything,’” said West.

Romney appeared on CBS’ Face the Nation on Sunday where he was asked repeatedly if he would repeal President Obama’s directive. Romney avoided taking a firm position on the matter during the interview, but indicated that he supports the underlying reform that the President’s directive has addressed.

“I believe the status of young people who come here through no fault of their own is an important matter to be considered and should be solved on a long-term basis so they know what their future would be in this country,” Romney told CBS’ Bob Schieffer on Sunday.

West told conservative radio host Laura Ingraham on Monday “I guess I feel a little bit dejected,” by Romney’s repeatedly avoiding taking a firm position on immigration.

West said he was firmly opposed to the President’s move to halt the deportation of the children of illegal immigrants.

I watched Romney for the last 4 years. At every current event, Romney was artfully the 7th or so to voice his “strong opinion,” which was always a watered down pap of consensus of his PR team.

Contrast that with Mrs. Palin, whose original and conservative response to each current event came within two or three hours, no need to first test the winds for what others thought.

Romney is a political eunuch.

Looks like Mittens is running as the anti Obama, with no discernable position on anything. Is anyone shocked, since his views aren’t that much differnent than Hussein’s?

We are so screwed either way at this point.

One way is like a rapid fire, full clip of an AK-47 burst through our hearts whilst tied up to a phone pole, and the other like being dipped in a huge vat of boiling SAE 10W-30 Pennzoil, toes first, ever so slowly. Fast death vs. slow death. What a horrid year, 2012. The Congressman is right. Annus horribilis.

Col West, why didn’t you run? Honest question. The nation needed you. You’ve answered the call above and beyond before, but you didn’t answer this time.

You’ve paid your dues, so no oprobrium on you, but why didn’t you answer this time? Compared to what you’ve faced before, the risks here were a joke.

Sigh.

You/we have to admit this was a brilliant move on Dear Leader's part (thus I can not believe that it was the MORON's idea) in that it:

1. Took the focus off the economy and jobs; and,

2. Knocked the legs out from Rubio's (and others') proposal for their version of the "Dream Act;" and,

3. Put Mittens in a box; if he openly supports the Fascist, Neo-Commie's Unconstitutional move, it will depress even more--if possible--the lukewarm support he has among Cons and if he strongly opposes it, O'Bummer, the RATS and MSM will hammer him and hurt him even more with the Latino vote.

Best thing Mittens could have done (and still could) is simply hammer Barry over and over as to the "Unconstitutionality" of his Diktat and simply say it should be up to Congress to decide what laws re: Immigration Reform should be.

I believe Romney is very different from Obama. Obama - we cannot compare him to anybody. He's that disasterous and in my opinion that's his purpose. He HATES America.

Romney may be closer to Al Gore in 1997 or Mayor Bloomberg which is bad enough. I really wish he was not the nominee. I don't like the guy.

I don't think it's healthy to try to minimize the disaster that is Barack Hussein Obama. I have my doubts about his eligibility, his citizenship, his religion and the man has done NOTHING to for America and the American people. Nothing. How can we compare Obama to anybody inside the United States.

I agree with you that Romney was a bad choice but I cannot even compare Obama to Chavez at this point.

First of all the Venezuelans know 100% that the man destroying their country is at least one of their own. Secondly, Chavez at least appears to be proud of Venezuela and appears to love Venezuela. Perhaps he really does believe that socialism is the way to go even though we see it destroying the country. Maybe Chavez really is trying to help his country even though we know what the end result will be.

I cannot say that about Obama. The question about his citizenship is still in the courts. He's never convincingly shown the American people that he loves this nation. He may not even be one of us. At least Hillary (if she had become President) at least if Hillary had destroyed this nation we can know for sure she was an American who was Constitutionally eligible to be the President that brought us down.

I truly believe Obama's trying to bring us down out of hatred for what we stand for in the world. I truly believe he's intentionally destroying this nation and being the international hero he is (especially now) he has a wide choice of nations to go and live in (he's done it before)and just a million dollars can last for decades in many of those nations. He's got it made outside the USA.

I wish it were Allen West or someone like that as our nominee but it's not. I simply refuse to compliment Obama by comparing him to Romney, Hillary, Al Gore or even Jimmy Carter. He's a horse of a different color and he's probably not one of us.

Who are the idiots? The American people who believed and still believe the man is on our side.

I think Mitt is playing disingenuous yet effective politics.

Even if, like W, he wants amnesty for the illegal alien invaders he will hit the same wall of constitution loving enforce-the-damn-law conservative Republicans Bush did.

Mitt is no conservative and he knows it so he has to be careful of being branded a hypocrite if he adopts too many conservative positions now in the heat of election year political battle.

We must just get his sorry ass in the White House and then FORCE him to be conservative...
...cuz the alternative is the final annihilation of the US Constitution and cattle cars to the camps for ALL of us here on Free Republic.

The headline kinda misses the point. Romney has numerous positions on immigration. It just depends on who he is talking to.

That's why we have Congress. If only they would do their jobs even now. Geez, it frustrates me. I wish we had control of both houses so we could start thinning out the dead wood. Oh well, maybe we will after November.

I do agree with you. Better to have an American destroy the nation than one whose own citizenship is still in question and in the courts. If we are going to be led over the cliff it's always better to know that the one who destroyed us was one of our own.

I agree with you

Who are the idiots? The American people who believed and still believe the man is on our side.

The idiots are the people that believe that the GOPe is on the side of America. They are ultimately on the same side as Obama and are equally enemies of the US Constitution and it’s underlying world view.

Romney has numerous positions on every issue. It just depends on who he is talking to.

That’s the reason why John “I was for it before I was against it” Kerry will be paying Romney in the mock debates with Obama.

Young college grad citizens are having a hard time finding jobs. Now they (Obama and Romney) advocate having them compete with illegals. Does this mean the illegals qualify for government jobs also?

Who is looking out for American citizens and America.

The idiots are the people that believe that the GOPe is on the side of America.

I would call that personal greed on the part of the GOPe and not hatred against the United States.

While neither is healthy for the nation there's a big difference between stuffing your pockets and intentionally driving this nation over the cliff with the goal of seeing us fall.

We've been led by the GOPe before and never got downgraded or watched another nation overtake our status as the world economic leader.

Neither is good. But one is far worse - so bad that our peak is now in the rear view mirrow. Question is: can we get back up and return to where were? I have my doubts. I can only hope.

I'm very upset with the GOPe because of the ratchet effect. As it stands right now, according to the media, Mitt Romney is a far-right extremist who hates poor people and does not want rich people to pay taxes.

If Romney is elected, he will mark a line as to how far to the Right an electable far-right extremist can go. The perceived wisdom is that any future Republicans will have to compromise a bit, be a bit more moderate, and shift a little to the Left of Romney in order to appeal to the American mainstream.

In the future, the GOPe will necessarily be Left of Romney. And that's why Romney is very bad news for Conservatives.

Well, I think just about all of us agree all or part of what you say. There are so many people pushing Romney that I can’t see how he’ll sneak off and do the wrong thing.

Ann Coulter thinks the guy walks on water, yet have we heard a peep out of her when the guy has a chance to slam dunk what Obama did regarding immigration?

I don’t think when it comes down to it that Obama is anything but a rank incompetent who is no more qualified to be president than you or me.

The lesson here is as it was when we elected Carter. The republicans love to put up these losers for election.

What I worry about is who Romney will choose if he picks a SCOTUS justice.

Conservatives fear Romney will be a liberal president when Mitt has never really been on the Left or Right.
His core principal is political power and if he is elected by conservatives and believes he may need them again to get reelected he will out conservative Reagan.

That means a second term Romney administration may be a grave risk because we will find out deep down what his secondary core principles are since his primary political ones will become moot from no longer needing to pander for votes.

A risk America cannot afford to take so we must elect him and then replace him in the 2016 primaries with a REAL conservative...
...ain't gonna happen though unless we can purge the GOP-e RINOs out of the party once and for all in 2014.
