Marco Rubio Not Being Vetted to Be Mitt Romney’s Running Mate
ABC ^

Posted on 06/19/2012 4:12:44 AM PDT by Perdogg

Even before the Republicans chose a presidential nominee it was widely assumed that Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., would be at the top of anybody’s list of vice presidential candidates. The reasons are obvious: Not only is he young, charismatic and wildly popular with conservatives, but he could also help Republicans win a key state (Florida) and make inroads with Hispanics.

Rumor going around Florida is that he will never be the running mate because he has some infidelity issues. I agree with others that he is too green to be VP.

“Marco Rubio Not Being Vetted to Be Mitt Romney’s Running Mate”

Gee, we sure didn’t see headlines like this from ABC or the rest of the mainstream media when it was -Obama- who should have been subject to “vetting”....

Having said that, expect more of this - MUCH more - if Rubio is Romney’s chosen running mate.

There are many (including myself) who do not believe he is Constitutionally qualified to be president.

There is much “hay to be made” here, and you can be sure they’ll be a-mowin’ it!

I wouldn’t put too much credence in this article. First of all, the report that he is not being vetted may be a smoke screen to take attention away from him or distract the Dems digging for dirt. If they have a report that he is not being vetted, why don’t they have reports of who “IS” being vetted? A lot of rumors and false information are going to be floating around on this subject until Romney is ready to announce.

“The Hispanic vote is lost.Time to pander to another minority.”

Wisest post on the thread.

But billions upon billions of Republican dollars and conservative efforts will be wasted on trying to do just that.

Some folks never learn....

George Romney was born in Mexico to American citizen parents. He was never a citizen of Mexico and even ran for President himself. If he was ineligible to be President, so was John McCain in 2008.

The main argument in favor of Rubio seems to be that he would win Hispanic votes, but it isn't clear that he would actually win any non-Cuban Hispanic votes, and the Cubans tend to vote Republican anyway. Romney needs to pick someone with more experience (which is also an argument against Col. West).

Now that I have lived through a “Governor McDonnell” please don’t pick him. He has been a major disappointment.

There's no more point in pandering to hispanics than there is in pandering to gays, jews or blacks.

As to McDonnell, my son in law lives in Va and they love him. Good solid conservative.

Only the insane claim Romney is not a Natural Born Citizen. His father George was born in Mexico to two U.S. citizen parents. George was never eligible for Mexican citizenship under the laws in place in Mexico at the time.

If you need a law to define your citizenship you are not natural born.

I think that Rubio knows in his heart that he's not a natural born citizen, which is why he's been declining to be considered for the VP spot.

I've gotten that impression, also, but don't live in Virginia so I have limited knowledge of McDonnell. But some here are calling him a RINO without providing their reasons for saying that.

Mitt should, truly, become a small conservative Republican RIGHT NOW, or Mitt should quit the ‘12 POTUS race and let a small government conservative take over!-Like that’s, ever, going to happen. This was Sarah Palin’s best chance of becoming POTUS, and she decided not to run, thanks to the MSM/”left, in all of its forms” assiduous attacks upon Sarah. If the ‘12 GOP Convention becomes a “kissyfest for Mitt Romney”, then how does that not end up making things much worse for Mitt Romney, among most conservative voters and among most very conservative voters, for the November general election?

>>He was never a citizen of Mexico and even ran for President himself. If he was ineligible to be President, so was John McCain in 2008.<<

So, isn’t the difference that John McCain was born in Panama on a U.S. government facility. This would be soveriegn U.S. territory.

I just wish the Supreme court would clarify the natural born citizen clause once and for all.

All the solidly conservative Republicans either decided not to run, or else couldn't attract enough support in the primaries. Who knows how Sarah would have done--but she didn't run. It's too late to ask the person with a majority of delegates to step aside.

Mitt has actually been saying the right things on abortion, Obamacare, and the economy. It's his past record in Massachusetts that makes conservatives distrust him. The thing to do is to keep the pressure on him so he can't backslide to his earlier positions. Even where he has a bad record, Obama is much worse.

“What happens if Romney has a stroke or a heart attack?
Rubio won’t be legally capable of taking over the country.”

The requirements for VP are EXACTLY the same as for President. Rubio isn’t Natural Born so he can’t be either VP or President! Probably why he isn’t being “vetted.”

“To be honest I am not sure about Romney’s being a Natural Born Citizen.
Wasn’t he born in Mexico?

Mitt Romney was born of American Citizen parents in MIchigan. His father, George Romney, was born to American Citizen parents in Mexico. I don’t think that there is any question that Mitt Romney meets the Constitutional requirement to be “natural born.” The RATs are trying to muddy the waters here.

It seems so irrational that people would not see like comparisons between Rubio and Obama as to eligibility. Of course if a a person believes the Constitution is irrelevant as to eligibility it really isn’t an important issue.
