Using the lure of $100 gift cards, the Chicago Police Department is encouraging people to get guns out of their homes and turn them in this Saturday, during the annual gun turn-in program.
As WBBM Newsradios Mike Krauser reports, the Police Department is partnering with 20 churches..
First Deputy Supt. Alfonza Wysinger says anyone who turns in a real gun will get a $100 gift card. Replicas and BB guns are worth $10.
No questions asked, Wysinger said. Just show up at the church, and hand over the weapons to the CPD officer that will be there, and get your $100 gift card. So we strongly suggest that people come out that have weapons lying around the house, or weapons, maybe, that they dont necessarily want in their house. This is a chance to get some money for their weapon, and get another dangerous weapon on the street.
The gun turn-in event, dubbed Dont Kill a Dream, Save a Life, is on from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the following locations:
Turn in your guns so they can come right in and murder you in your sleep..Bull!!!
Turn in your guns so they can come right in and murder you in your sleep..Bull!!!
How do these things actually work?
What if someone turns in a gun whose serial number is on a list of stolen guns?
With a requirement that the gun is “real”, what if the gun doesn’t work? Say it was used for parts, and is missing something... trigger, barrel, etc.
Is an ID required?
If anyone has any damaged/crap guns around send em to me and I’ll split the difference with you.
The DC chapter of FR should hold a gun turn-in event on the steps of the DOJ.
Seems like in Chicago they prefer to turn in their bullets. One at a time. By way of the coroner’s office.
That would be racist.
I’m more inclined to hold a bullet turn-in than a gun turn-in.
Yes, it is such a common thing, to just have guns lying around the house. And unwanted, at that.
All my guns are well taken care of, and they were all planned and wanted guns. Every gun a planned and wanted gun.
Boy that would sure get under the pro-choicers skins. Taking a pro-abort phrase and turing it into a Constitution loving, pro 2nd-Amendment phrase.
Every gun, a planned and wanted gun.
I would encourage any and all gun collectors to intercept as many of the gun owners as possible to see if anything is worth buying and then pay them accordingly.
Show up and offer $100 cash for any working firearm. Even filtering for stolen firearms you’d have to return to rightful owner, you’d still make a mint reselling at today’s prices.
Who is funding this?
They’ll get a pile of stolen guns, little else. Idiots.
My paranoid guess is that the Chicago police will test each gun for use in open-case felonies, and then ... given a hit, get their $100 back, among other things.
Turn in all of your guns that are too broken and/or are too old to fix, get some gift certificates, and keep all of your working guns at home.
I think they did this is NY or Baltimore, then all the guns were tested for links to crimes. Then it turned out they were marking which gun was to which certificate, and somehow chased down a bunch of folks for the crimes. If it’s a hot gun and you don’t know it’s actual history, you could be charged with a murder.
Mayor of Newark has had gun turn in for quite a while.
The links and research from just 6 months ago are missing...it was called gunstoppers - search Booker + gunstoppers
Here is one link I had that does work

Which weapons are not dangerous? Did he realize they're not on the STREET, but in houses? He says, "on the street" because he really means, "in private possession" but he can't say THAT because it would cause outrage --everyone is FOR the right to privately possess, but everyone is against weapons, "on the street".
Police can't say, "we fear weapons that are owned by citizens".
Why did they chose the term, "turn in"...? We TURN IN criminals, or items that are lost. We TURN IN shameful things, like fugitives.
Hey why do they have cash for THIS when they have cash for nothing else?
That’s my plan. I’ve got some ancient crap in my safe, half a dozen or so. I think I’ll turn them in, get $500 or $600 in gift cards and then hit my local gun shop and buy something decent for me or the Mrs.
