Asians have surpassed Hispanics as the largest group of new immigrants to the United States, according to a new study from the Pew Research Center.

The study, called "The Rise of Asian-Americans" and released on Tuesday, reveals that Asian-Americans also have the highest income, are the best-educated and are the fastest-growing racial group in America.

About 430,000 Asians--or 36 percent of all new immigrants--arrived in the United States in 2010, according to U.S. census data. About 370,000, or 31 percent, were Hispanic.

The differences in assimilation and education between Asians and Hispanics is very interesting.

Muslims from India are considered ‘Asian’. Right?

Asians are the only good thing about Ann Arbor Michigan. They don’t bother anyone, they’re intelligent, they’re educated. They really are some of the most pleasant people in the world to talk to.

I’m OK with this as long as they aren’t muslims.

Yes, unfortunately.

This set of statistics counts people from India as "Asians," but there are relatively few Indian Moslems-- most Indians are Hindu.

This is most likely good news. Educated people tend to be republicans. Asians are normally hard workers and would not want their hard earned money going into politicians pockets to give to their constituents. We can only pray.

Having taught in a Queens JHS with a 55% Hispanic and 32% Asian population I can address your point. For the most part Asian kids arrive here generally well educated except for English and History. There is a strong desire to improve both socially and financially. Many of my Latino kids arrived here uneducated. It was not unusual to have a new 7th grader for whom we were his first scholastic experience. Latino kids have cultural issues as many are stigmatized for acting white. Asians have bad kids but they are not celebrated except in bad Mickey Rourke films. Finally there is distance. NYC to the New Delhi, Seoul or Shanghaiis an obstacle compared to NYC to the DR or Cartegena. Distance makes the country of origin into the old country not my country.

Thanks for that perspective...

I suppose the closer one is to the southern border, the more true your anecdote becomes.

Most Americans of Asian decent I know are Hard core conseratives. They hate Communists and Marxists, especially ones from Kenya that have big ears and hang around in bathhouses.

Interesting because I have no problem with it but in the Mid Atlantic region it seems to be raining Asians. Most seem second generation at least but there are so many. I’d guess many of the younger are college students.

Why don’t politicians pander to Asians the way they pander to Hispanics?

Why don’t politicians pander to Asians the way they pander to Hispanics?

Because they don't make themselves a demographic for it. I'll go un-PC here and say that, as a rule, Asians tend to be well informed and educated on economic/financial issues. They understand how money is made, spent, invested, etc. Perhaps because the vast majority of them are here LEGALLY and came for reasons other than "getting free shiite." They are academically proficient (?) as compared to the hordes of criminals, malcontents, and assorted overflow that washes in from our southern border.

Aren’t the pre-Columbian native populations of the Americas racially related to Asian? The trouble with this article is that it compares a race (Asian) with and ethnicity (Hispanic). What category would an Asian Hispanic (Alberto Fujimori the former President of Peru for example) fit into?

My observation would be that the word Asian covers a whole lot of cultures, languages and races. East Asians will usually adapt to the political environment they live in or will be apolitical and hope for the best. San Francisco’s Chinese have only become active outside their neighborhood recently and are liberal to compete. The Japanese in Hawaii are liberal to compete. Southeast Asians are more conservative as are Indians. The Muslims are Muslim. Competitiveness seems the common thread, thus the students. Pandering will work only so far as it aids success. Most are sincere Americans though some Chinese are still wed to China.

The quickest way to get illegals deported is to convince them to vote Republican.
