Why Conservatives Love Rachel Maddow
BuzzFeed ^ | Jun 18, 2012

When the arch-conservative Oklahoma Republican Senator James Inhofe made his way to Rachel Maddow's eponymous 9:00 p.m. MSNBC show on March 15, viewers probably didn't expect a lovefest.

Inhofe, however, had unusually kind words for the liberal host.

"You won't believe this but I'm happy to be here with you," he told Maddow. "I really love people who are liberal that are honest about it. The ones I don't like are the hypocrites."

It isn't just Inhofe. No lesser figure than Fox News President Roger Ailes blurbed her recent bestseller, Drift, as "a book worth reading." The conservative movement, in fact, is in the throes of an unlikely fascination with the liberal, intellectual television host, an out lesbian, former Rhodes Scholar, and longtime resident of Northampton, Mass. The appeal has two major strains, conservatives say: They respect her intellect; and they believe that all Democrats are as far left as she is, but that most hide it better.

"Maddow is the Rush Limbaugh of the left, a joyous warrior for her cause," the Republican political consultant Alex Castellanos said in an email, adding that she shares Limbaugh's "joie de guerre."

"She is somewhat more limited than Rush since she is wrong about almost everything, but she's a happy warrior nevertheless," he said. "Maddow is quite different than the joyless Lawrence O'Donnell, whose demeanor suggests he hasn't had a bowel movement in months."

A survey of a spectrum of conservative and Republican figures finds the movement's signature on the subject.

"I disagree with her ideologically but I am extremely impressed with her intellect and her ability to position the issues," said Mallory Factor, the co-founder of New York City's conservative Monday Meeting. "Too many left ideologues just rant and rave with no substance."

"It's impossible not to be wowed by

This Maddow video blew me away. I gained a lot of respect for the woman:

I disagree with her a lot, but she showed some real conviction here and absolutely slammed Obama in a way few conservatives could.

All left ideologues rant and rave with no substance. If their arguments appear to have substance, you have been taken in by very subtle lies and false arguments.

Home of Smith College, which has a reputation as the Harvard of lesbians. And I think Maddow went to Stanford.

No honest Conservatives “love” Rachel Maddow or think she is honest or joyful. She is simply an angry, shrill lesbian with a “hey look at me” narcissism that is nauseating.

She constantly lies and is wrong about just about everything. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. Maddow is almost always wrong.

When conservatives are polite and gracious, which they usually are, leftists proclaim how popular they are. It is just more propaganda from the MSM.

Do you notice how leftists are never polite to conservatives. They always lie about them and call them names. Remember how they called Sarah Palin a “twat” and ridiculed her Down Syndrome child. I didn't hear any leftist hypocrites talk about “the need for civility” then.

After watching that video I do find myself very confused. I find myself in agreement with the Madcow. I actually like what she said.

This is very troubling.

I think I better go lie down for a while...

I recall when she was a regular guest on Tucker Carlson’s excellent program, and at that time she came across as a fairly decent human being. She was very liberal, of course, but not generally offensive in personality and she seemed very willing to engage with Tucker. As soon as she became Olbermann’s protégée her demeanour appeared to change and she became much more strident and nasty in temperament.

That’s because it was proposed against suspected al qaeda members. She’d probably be in favor of prolonged detention of conservatives.

From time to time I have "tuned" in to Madcow's program. I have NEVER heard Madcow do anything other than rant and rave, and I have NEVER heard her present substance on any issue.

She was on meet the press to talk about her book a few months ago. She seemed much more reasonable and thoughtful than I’d seen her either on her show (admittedly an infrequent occurrence) or when she has been on panel discussions.

I think she knows she’s playing a role when on MSNBC or when she’s part of the MTP panel, and plays up to that.

More like she knows how few people actually watch her usual tripe, not enough to sell any big number of books, so she is actually playing the role on MTP in order to fool people to buy her book.

Ellis Cose is dead wrong on every issue but he is civil. Too many liberal talkers believe that if they can just "over talk" their opponents, they win.

In the clip you provided, Rachel Maddow is advocating that the constitutional rights that American citizens enjoy be given to the enemy combatants and terrorists particularly those at Gitmo. She is advocating that enemy combatants be processed through the legal system.

She praises president Obama for dishonestly attacking the Bush Administration and she adds cheap shots against Bush and Cheney.

This is consistent with her typical lies and false attacks on patriotic Americans.

She describes Obama’s dishonest attacks on Bush as “poetic”.

Maddow then points out the obvious. The Obama Administration is not only continuing the Bush policies towards enemy combatants, but they are even taking them further. She then talks about the constitutional rights of American citizens and dishonestly equates enemy combatants with American citizens.

The clip just proves my points. Do you think equating enemy combatants with American citizens is a position conservatives should “love”?

I’m guessing these numbskulls never actually watched her show.
Really painlful, too cutesy and schoolmarm-ish and of course, wrong on absolutely everything. The main things she harps on are anything gay and contraception and abortion.
Coming from a supposed female approaching middle age, who looks and acts like an aging teenage boy, it is more than ridiculous.
I hate the way these leftists talk down to people

Maddow is great for conservatives because it is the epitome of the left, and as such draws few to their cause.

As far as “love”...that’s going a bit far.

Well, understand that the dyke was speaking of the constitutional rights of imprisioned foreign combatants who have no constitutional rights.

She has never expressed a problem with DHS classifying you as a domestic terrorist based on your pre-crime political and social ideology. Maddow is to the constitution as Barney Frank is to sound banking.

When Obama speaks of putting people in detention for crimes they might commit - my concern is he's talking about us. Conservatives. There's nothing about Homeland Security or any other parts of the Administration that seems concerned with radical Muslims. When liberals get heated about enemies of the state they're referring to the 'vast right wing conspiracy' types. Us.

A radical Muslim shoots people on a base, the first words from the liberals is concern that the 'right wing' might use this to gin up hate for Muslims. Not that they have proof - or 'hate' they're reacting to - it's said in anticipation of assumed 'hate'. These people don't seem to understand killing people in the ultimate hate - whether it's 3,000 on 9/11 or dozens on a military base.

True. But an accidental byproduct of calling Obama on this is it would also protect us. I have no doubt Obama and his thugs would use this against us long before they would use it against radical Muslims. Muslims are a group they protect...
