Republican White House hopeful Mitt Romney will address the largest black civil rights group in the United States next month, the NAACP said Tuesday.
Romney, who squares off against President Barack Obama in November's election, will attend the annual convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, set for July 7-12 in Houston, Texas.
Romney was invited to address the convention shortly after he clinched his party's presidential nomination last month, NAACP spokesman Derek Turner said.
The organization is also hoping Obama, the country's first African-American president, will attend the event. Both he and Senator John McCain addressed the NAACP when they were candidates for the presidency in 2008.
Romney's campaign confirmed he accepted the invitation to speak at the annual convention but provided no further details.
Turner told AFP he expects Romney to "address civil rights" during his speech, "as they are in line with our mission."

Big mistake. The NAACP isn’t anything more that a division of the DNC.
Why the hell would you waste your time talking to the Tan Klan?
This cant be very good.
Perhaps I’m wrong...
The GOP is damned if they do and damned if they don’t.
Don’t go and you are racist.
Go and you are a pinata.
Depending on what he says, it might be clever. If he shows up and delivers some strong words, only to receive boos and heckling, this might work for Romney by showing the middle just what kind of people make up the NAACP.
Ben Jealous --- President of the NAACP
He is definitely more white than black with prolly a little American Indian thrown in
"The tan Klan"
Fixed it for you.
Then again, the DNC = CPUSA.
Very bad move, the NAACP is nothing but a communist front group.
Too bad the GOP-e candidate has neither the stones nor the conservative principles to go speak to this group with some home truths about their half-bro, the One. The speech could start off with some facts about black unemployment under the half-bro, sprinkle in some conservative principles, and close out with strong finish on un-Constitutional actions by the half-bro that make it even harder for blacks to get jobs by increasing the competition with illegal aliens through faux amnesty.
Now That’s Entertainment!!!
I wonder if this will be another “my party made mistakes, we need to do better” BS we usually hear from the GOP.
I wish he would pull a sister solja moment and criticize the leadership of the NAACP for going against the majority of its members in supporting homosexual marriage and comparing it to the struggle for civil rights.
Big mistake!!!
LLS
LLS
This is nothing more than an ambush in the making, with juicy sound bytes to mix and match in the editing room for the MSM.
STUPID!
I too believe this will turn out to be Mitt on his knees kissing the behinds of the NAACP, while they demand he also turn them around and kiss the other side.
Romney could knock it out of the park if he announced at the end of his speech that it was his intention to invite Congressman Allen West to be his running mate.
I would pay a cover charge to watch that sort of entertainment.
Well that’s a shade better than Muslim Brotherhood. Or is it?
Throwing your pearls before swine.
