Tim Pawlenty's stock soars in Romney-world (Jumps to top on VP short list)

Tim Pawlenty has jumped to the top of the vice presidential shortlist of several Mitt Romney advisers after emerging as the most effective — and well-liked — surrogate for the GOP nominee-to-be, according to several Republicans familiar with campaign deliberations.

The former Minnesota governor has impressed top Romney officials with his winning onstage presence at a grueling roster of Republican events throughout the country and with his low-maintenance personal style that has made him a favorite with the campaign’s tight-knit inner circle at the Boston headquarters.

Pawlenty is strong where Romney is weak — with the regular-guy, working-man connection with voters in casual settings.

“Pawlenty will walk up and put a supporter in a headlock,” said a Republican consultant who was startled to witness just that. “He provides a nice yin and yang to Romney.”

Several top Republicans said that as the hockey-playing son of a blue-collar worker, and a longtime champion of connecting with what he has called “Sam’s Club Republicans,” Pawlenty would be comfortable campaigning among working-class voters in a way that Romney never will be.

In addition, Pawlenty is an evangelical Christian but is low-key enough about his faith that he doesn’t scare off secular voters. This could help Romney with religious conservatives who may be skeptical of — or even hostile to — his Mormon faith.

“He’s great with conservatives but doesn’t scare off women,” a Romney campaign official said of Pawlenty.

Not only have Romney and Pawlenty developed an easy bond when they travel together, but their wives — Ann Romney and Mary Pawlenty — have developed a genuine friendship that has surprised some campaign insiders.

Romney has made clear to his closest advisers that the vice presidential pick will be his call alone.

How good is Pawlenty on foreign policy?

Pointless effort.
Tim won’t bring MN to the GOP table and he is too squishy to firm up Romney’s right flank.

Pawlenty was the first RINO to get kicked to the curb, probably why our RINO nominee is in love with him.

I would encourage a pick that reflects the diversity of this country, a Black, Hispanic, or Female. Not another boring white guy.

(says a, uh, boring white guy)

Lather, rinse, repeat. It’s the same every election. The GOP does everything they can to lose.

The only plus I can see for Pawlenty is that he's boring enough to make Mitt look exciting.

Sort of like Biden being dumb enough to make BO look smart . . .

You might not want a fat white guy, and I’m not talking about walking donut Christie, I am talking about Mike Huckabee.
Don’t be surprised if the Huckster gets the call, and he would be the perfect pick. Let someone say a 10 year conservative governor is not qualified to be president. Only problem with Huckabee is he would tend to overshadow Mittens if he didn’t tone down, which I think he would like a good soldier.

I don’t buy into picking candidates because of their sex or gender that’s how we got this A$$CLOWN in office now.

And I don’t find white people boring.

The losers are looking for an "anti-Palin," and that's exactly what they're going to get.

If he picks Pawlenty it’ll confirm what I already believe , which is that the fix is in and Romney is starring as Fall Guy # 2 ( McCain # 1 ) .

FR fell for the media story on Rubio last week, hook-line and sinker. Don’t pay atention to these stories. They are fabricated to rile the conservatives.

Pawlenty?

"Romney & Pawlenty"??...

Enough to make one think about voting for obamao to get the revolution started before the rest of the Americans over the age of 60 (those who remember the former Constitution and the liberty once enjoyed) die off...

Possibly the last chance (excluding (99942 Apophis) to avoid that "1000 years"...

I crossed Pawlenty off the list when he sat on his hands as Al Frankenstein stole a Senate seat. We’re “Minnesota Nice”. What could go wrong with the vote count?
