WashTimes: Sen. Grassley: Assertion of Executive Privilege Raises ‘Monumental Questions’

Bryan Preston

..... “The assertion of executive privilege raises monumental questions,” said Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee who first began the Fast and Furious investigation.

“How can the president assert executive privilege if there was no White House involvement? How can the president exert executive privilege over documents he’s supposedly never seen? Is something very big being hidden to go to this extreme? The contempt citation is an important procedural mechanism in our system of checks and balances,” he said. ..........

Holder must have something big on Obama because he just admitted he knew everything.

This whole investigation by the Republicans is a joke. How many months later and not a damn thing has been accomplished except to give Holder and Obama time to hide the reasons for Fast and Furious. Wonder how many documents have been changed like Obama’s birth certificate.

This is as good as an admission of guilt.

It doesn’t raise important questions, it is an important answer.

Obama is in this up to his floppy ears.

The obamabus is heading down the steep hill into oblivion and all the wheel weights have come off of every wheel.

So, as the downhill speed picks up which happens first:

The entire unholy out of control obamabus hits the bottom first in a spectacular explosion of mess?

or

The unbalanced wheels shake more and eventually shake everything apart in a spectacular explosion of mess before it hits the bottom?

It won’t be long before Holder will hand over a bunch of Adobe-altered .pdf files just like the fraudulent BC Obama posted in the White House web site.

It doesn’t raise important questions, it is an important answer.

The claim of EP means that Obama knew, either before or after the fact that his Treasury Dept.(where ATF is) is directly responsible for the murders of at least 2 Federal Agents and hundreds of Mexican citizens.

My money is on "before".

I don't know about that...if Issa hadn't pushed for the last 18 months would Obama have felt forced to claim Executive Privilege? I truly believe Holder and Obama have backed themselves into a corner that even the main stream media can get them out of now.

I bet Holder has all of Obama’s birth records, school records and all the other dirty laundry that Bammy has been trying to hide since he took the office of president.

I bet Holder has enough evidence to bury Bammy. So Bammy had to come to his aid. Gotta help out a brutha don’t you know.

Kinda looks like Grassley and Issa managed to talk the Fast and Furious “investigation” right into the ground.
Like most in Congress, all talk and no action.
Talk, Talk, Talk until the perpetrators figure a way to get the investigation shut down. Meanwhile Brian Terry is still dead and the cartels still have the weapons. Way to go!

Was just over at DU to see their reaction. Most of it was typical lib-spin but one DUmmy "gets it":

Do None Of You People realize what has just happened! Holder has just linked Obama to the Fast and Furious program! This now opens the President up to all sorts of investigations which can not be good at all in an election year! Holder is circling the drain and he is taking the President with him. Can no one here see this? There is way too much evidence, REAL evidence against Holder. Obama should have cut him loose last year. It makes no difference if this is a continuation of a Bush project or not, it should never have gone as far as it did. To say that Holder is the guy who stopped the project is just an insult to our intelligence. He stopped after he got caught! People died you guys! A Federal agent died! If this were Bush's AG you guys would be singing a different song. Some things are just unspinable. The SCOTUS has already ruled that this sort of paperwork is NOT covered under EP. It would have to contain direct communications with the AG and the President concerning this program which is something all involved (including the President) have denied the whole time! This is a Watergate moment people and it is bad news right now! Get your heads out of the sand! Ed

That is a GREAT way to phrase this issue by Sen Grassley.

0dumb0 is asserting executive privilege for documents he supposedly knows nothing about!!! More than likely, these documents have both his & Holder's fingerprints all over them. He & Holder both deserve to be impeached, charged with treason, and spend the next 50 years in prison.

IMO Obama planned everything except the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry who died because of the reckless manner in which this operation to steal our Constitutional rights was performed.

The death of this agent and how many innocent Mexican citizens is on the head of Holder an Obama?

The death of agent Terry upset Obama’s apple cart.

The infirmative-action president is confident that because Republican leaders in the House and Senate are so fearful of being called “racists” if they dare challenge the actions of the first fractionally-negro president, they won’t challenge him over this most recent lawlessness. Sorry to say I think his confidence is well-founded based on what I’ve seen of the how the Republican leaders respond to his Constitutional challenges to the legislative branch. (Who says Obama’s thug politics don’t work?!)

Or Klinton's "protective rights" executive priviledge regarding the Secret Service and their knowledge of Monica_L.

I truly believe Holder and Obama have backed themselves into a corner that even the main stream media can get them out of now.

Well, here's the problem. This buys several months while the E.P. claim goes all the way to SCOTUS (on the taxpayer's dime, mind you) and for SCOTUS to say E.P. is not covered, or that E.P. applies because Obama was involved - which means Obama lied about not knowing.

Either way, Obama would basically moon Congress by subsequently refusing to cooperate further, knowing that he might get impeached but not removed because that takes Dem votes in the Senate, a lesson from the Clinton years.

Only way Obama gets out of this before such a showdown is for him to get voted out in November. That is why Obama is being so brazen here. Call it the Clinton precedent.

Obama will just quietly be put out to pasture, IMO. Because you know he's been using federal agencies to collect enough info on the rest of the power structure to assure mutual destruction if they take any action against him.

That's the DC way.

I agree Issa has done a great job. Despite having been chairman for only 1 1/2 years (Grassley has been in the minority for the entire time) he has doggedly pursued this to the point the President has been forced to invoke executive privilege. True, there are some who don't understand the separation of powers concept and think Issa should be able to act arbitrarily, but all factors considered, he has done about as well as anyone could reasonably expect.
