Ah, those long ago days in 2007 when a fresh-faced “I wanna be president” Barack Obama demands that an Attorney General not be the “president’s attorney” but rather the “people’s attorney”.

Then candidate-Obama was speaking of course about former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and his firing in 2006 of a handful of political appointees within the Department of Justice after formal performance reviews had been completed.

What Gonzales did was was neither illegal, nor out of the ordinary – and it should be noted that three separate Inspector General probes initiated by Democratic Party controlled Congress uncovered no wrongdoin by Gonzales – though by then the public relations damage had been completed and Alberto Gonzales, the first Hispanic Attorney General in the history of the United States, resigned his position.
