New Film: Jesus Christ Not Divine, Product of Rape
Big Hollywood ^ | 20 Jun 2012 | Warner Todd Huston

Posted on 06/20/2012 5:08:30 PM PDT by Bratch

So much for Hollywood's days of the sweeping Biblical epic.

Director/author Paul Verhoeven has announced he's found the financial backing to produce a film on the Christian Messiah that will contend that Jesus was just a good politician, one born after his mother was raped by a Roman soldier, but a man most certainly not the Son of God.

Verhoeven, most famous for having brought movie goers the 1987 smash "RoboCop," is looking to begin filming his newest flick based on his own book, "Jesus Of Nazareth."

That 2008 book dismisses the Bible's chronicling of miracles performed by Jesus Christ, not to mention asserting that Jesus' birth was less than immaculate. The book suggests Jesus was the result of Mary being raped by a Roman Centurion. Verhoeven also claims to debunk the fact that Judas Iscariot -- one of the Twelve Disciples -- betrayed Jesus to Roman authorities just previous to the crucifixion.

It looks as if they're beginning production of Hollywood's next flop.

Soon to be appearing in a (empty) theater near you.

Why is Hollywierd so obsessed with the destruction of Jesus? There has been film after film that either depicts him in so many perverted and obscene ways or denounces his mother’s life. For a group that thinks that he doesn’t exist, they sure spend a lot of time and money on him.

one born after his mother was raped by a Roman soldier, but a man most certainly not the Son of God.

Life of Brian was more entertaining and probably more theologically sound than Verhoeven's movie.

Though Verhoeven denies Christ's divinity, he still says he greatly respects Jesus Christ's "ethics."

If you reject Jesus's divinity how can you accept his ethics? He claimed to be the Son of God and if he was wrong then he is the greatest heretic in the history of the world leading billions of followers from the correct path. (not originally my idea, but I forget who I heard it from so I can't give proper credit).

Christians may picket and protest, but we won't riot and we won't cut people's heads off.

The haters can blaspheme all they want, but at the end of time, Jesus will still be the Real Deal. I don't want to be on His bad side.

Sounds like he just based his book on the medieval Jewish work, the Toledot Yeshu, which made these kinds of spurious claims about Jesus. Led to no small measure of antisemetic backlash.

Director/author Paul Verhoeven has announced he's found the financial backing to produce a film on the Christian Messiah that will contend that Jesus was just a good politician, one born after his mother was raped by a Roman soldier, but a man most certainly not the Son of God.

So trite. And the poor guy isn't even aware of the pedigree of his philosophy. The following, from Ideas Have Consequences by Richard Weaver, is a pretty good summary:
"The defeat of logical realism in the great medieval debate was the crucial event in the history of Western culture; from this flowed those acts which issue now in modern decadence. "

SNIP

"It was William of Occam who propounded the fateful doctrine of nominalism, which denies that universals have a real existence. His triumph tended to leave universal terms mere names serving our convenience. The issue ultimately involved is whether there is a source of truth higher than, and independent, of man; and the answer to the question is decisive for one's view of the nature and destiny of humankind. The practical result of nominalist philosophy is to banish the reality which is perceived by the intellect and to posit as reality that which is perceived by the senses. With this change in the affirmation of what is real, the whole orientation of culture takes a turn, and we are on the road to modern empiricism." p. 3

“After it has been granted that man is molded entirely by environmental pressures, one is obligated to extend the same theory of causality to his institutions.--SNIP—Man created in the divine image, the protagonist of a great drama in which his soul was at stake, was replaced by man the wealth-seeking and –consuming animal.”

“Finally came psychological behaviorism, which denied not only freedom of the will but even such elementary means of direction as instinct. Because the scandalous nature of this theory is quickly apparent, it failed to win converts in such numbers as the others; yet it is only a logical extension of them and should in fairness be embraced by the upholders of material causation. Essentially, it is a reduction to absurdity of the line of reasoning which began when man bade a cheerful goodbye to the concept of transcendence.”—p 6

"[Man] struggles with the paradox that total immersion in matter unfits him to deal with the problems of matter.

"His decline can be represented as a long series of abdications. He has found less and less ground for authority at the same time he thought he was setting himself up as the center of authority in the universe: indeed, there seems to exist here a dialectic process which takes away his power in proportion as he demonstrates that his independence entitles him to power."-- p.7

Basing a movie on a non-scholarly, non-historical 11th century tract that was intended to be nothing more than a sharp stick in Christiandom's eye is right up Hollywood's alley.

I'm surprised its taken them so long.

He won’t be making a film about muhammad....if he did, he’d be dead. Remember that liberals attack those who don’t, won’t or can’t fight back? Christians are plagued by the ‘’turn the other cheek; he without sin cast the first stone’’ crap. Liberals fear the wild-eyed muzzies. Liberals do NOT fear Christians. Something much like an Olbermann hanging from a streetlamp, eviscerated and with a cross branded on his forehead, would help cure that stigma.

Not Really. Here’s what we have outside the Bible, on the existence of Jesus, and what was widely known about him in the pre-3rd century world.

1) Tacitus PAGAN 1st century Roman Historian
2) Suetonius PAGAN Chief Secretary to Roman Emperor Hadrian
3) Josephus JEWISH 1st century Pharisee, General, Roman Historian
4) Pliny the Younger PAGAN Roman Administrator, Author
5) Emperor Trajan PAGAN Roman Emperor
6) Talmud JEWISH Rabbis circa 70-200 A.D.
7) Lucian of Samosta PAGAN 2nd century Greek satirist:
8) Mara Bar-Serapion PAGAN between the 1st and 3rd centuries
9) Maimonides JEWISH 12th century sage
10) Philopon PAGAN 6th century

“...even if we did not have any Christian writings, “we would he able to conclude from such non-Christian writings as Josephus, the Talmud, Tacitus, and Pliny the Younger that: (1) Jesus was a Jewish teacher; (2) many people believed that he performed healings and exorcisms; (3) he was rejected by the Jewish leaders; (4) he was crucified under Pontius Pilate in the reign of Tiberius; (5) despite this shameful death, his followers, who believed that he was still alive, spread beyond Palestine so that there were multitudes of them in Rome by A.D. 64; (6) all kinds of people from the cities and countryside — men and women, slave and free — worshiped him as God by the beginning of the second century.” Wilkins, Michael and J. P. Moreland, eds. Jesus Under Fire: Modern Scholarship Reinvents the Historical Jesus. Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 1995.

Now THAT is nonsense. Prove that Alexander The Great lived. We actually have more and more recent witness testimony of Jesus than of Alexander The Great. If you slide scales to allow Alexander lived, how much more should one believe Jesus lived. And with the mountain of witness testimony to His resurrection, well, you have to change the scales in mid-comparison to reject the testimonies.

In the 1970s there was a film made called Mohommed, Messenger of God. You can read about it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammad,_Messenger_of_God

The producers bent over backwards to show respect to Islamic beliefs and there was no depiction of mad mo or even a voice. Didn’t matter because it led to this hostage taking and murder in Washington DC which almost killed Marion Barry before his more infamous years ahead. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1977_Hanafi_Muslim_Siege

Loads of marketing research here. Someone somewhere needs a loss on the books and this one would be perfect! Actually, this is ego, impure and simply dreckful. See, I can still be controversial and relevant at the Hollyweird party circuit.

Yet, as Michael Medved, the JEWISH film critic and radio host has pointed out for decades, it is the 'G' films that make money and this polluted garbage will almost certainly not be 'G'! I can't recall when Verhoeven made anything less than 'R'.

Bye the bye, on this same movie subject, how much did Mel Gibson's much derided 'The Passion of the Christ' bring in as a 'R' film?
